“Five days in Funchal - Not long enough!”

Excellent location, with lots to see and do close by. Room was very clean with a comfortable bed. Great sea view from balcony.Staff in all areas were excellent and very helpful. Food was very good and restraint service was excellent. Only one problem - Coffee was not replenished daily - had to ask for more at reception!

“nicely modern refurbished clean hotel with the best breakfast”

Nothing to fault about this hotel which is nicely modern refurbished and very clean. It has great breakfast (although mostly the same every day, apart from the delicious little pastries, a lot of different fresh food with quality coffee and champagne/ prosciutto to start the day on the island). The rooms have balconies and are very clean. Very dedicated and politely staff, playing a key role to guests' overall experience. The sea view from the roof top bar is spectacular. The hotel is about 20-30 minute walk to the centre of Funchal and we did it a few times. Alternatively there is a bus stop right outside (including airport shuttle, very useful) and there is also a Pingo Doge supermarket around the Lido area next to the hotel, also very convenient. We hired a nice small car and explored the island; same has been parked overnight free of charge at hotel own parking area. We would definitely stay at the Tiles Hotel again and would recommend it to others as long as you don't mind being a bit out of Funchal downtown. Highly recommend it.

    “Lovely hotel and great staff”

My husband and I stayed in this hotel mid March on a bed and breakfast basis after reading the good reviews about it. I emailed the hotel a couple of times before the holiday to check out some information and always got a prompt and polite response from them which was a good sign. After a slight hiccup with our room on arriving (they had upgraded us to a superior room which had a tiny balcony and side view), we got moved to a different room which was much smaller but directly facing the sea. As other people have mentioned, there was a lack of storage space in way of shelving, and no hooks for hanging towels, robes etc which was a bit frustrating. Also the plug socket was far away from the mirror which made it difficult for drying my hair. Also, because it was quite breezy we could not have the balcony door open - there was no hook to hold it open and it banged shut a few times. I ended up tying it to the balcony railings with a luggage strap so we could have the door open when it was hot as I'm not a fan of air-conditioning. We were very disappointed in the breakfast the first few mornings. Everything was spotless and it looked very appetising however the hot food (bacon, sausages, eggs, beans) was stone cold. We decided on the third day to mention this to the staff and we are so glad we did as they thanked us for letting them know and said they would look into it. Sure enough, next morning the food was nice and hot and it was like this for the remainder of the holiday. There is a rooftop bar (on the 11th or 12th floor) with lovely views but sadly it was only open for the last night of our stay as it was quite windy. The hotel is about 20-30 minute walk to the centre of Funchal and we did it a few times. We are in our mid 40s to 50 so fairly fit but it would definitely be too far to walk for somebody with mobility problems. However there is a bus stop right outside and there are some restaurants and bars around the Lido area next to the hotel. We hired a 125cc scooter for 5 days at 20 Euros a day and explored the island. We did have some doubts about Madeira initially as it's not the usual type of place we go to but the scenery is spectacular and we ended up loving it and would love to go back some time. We would definitely stay at the Tiles Hotel again and I would recommend it to others as long as you don't mind being a bit out of Funchal town.
