    “Barcelo Tambor, Costa Rica”

On Sept 3-5 I stayed at this resort, my bathroom smelled like a trucker stop, they charge $12/day for Wi-Fi use that is terrible, avoid the steak house 1 hour of wait for bad food, dirty beach, cheaply drinks, no shuttle service from ferry to resort, only fun thing is the entertainment at night.

    “Doc in Tambor”

The Barcelo Tambor is a world class facility with fabulous rooms, a top-notch golf facility, a very nice pool, and a beautiful, secluded beach. The wildlife was spectacular. There were many large iguanas, a flock of scarlet macaws, a flock of parakeets, and numerous other birds. The views from the beachfront rooms are breathtaking, and the ocean view suites are extremely spacious and well-designed.Those are the good things. The one bad thing, which unfortunately is a huge thing, was the food. The food was of poor quality, it was poorly prepared, and there was a very narrow array of food choices, compared with the RIU chain, for example. Also, the facility was so big that management should strongly consider having pickup services using a golf cart to pick up people who have infirmities, as the walking would be very hard on those people.I would recommend this hotel, but everyone should know that the food is not good. The beauty of the facility is worth seeing though. I would return, and hopefully by that time they can improve the food and provide some transportation to those who need it.

Dear JW2159 Thank you for your insights regarding our buffets, although we lament reading that we weren't able to meet your culinary wishes on this occasion, please rest assured that your comments will be shared with our Chefs to enhance our future guests' dining expériences. I must respectfully add that our hotel has wheelchairs that make it easier for people with reduced mobility to move around. We certaily look forward to serving you again and to have the opportunity to exceed you expectations in a not too distant future. Sincerely, Raúl Arranz General Manager Barceló Tambor Hotel

“Great, laid-back, true Costa Rican resort”

If you're looking for an intimate, low key all-inclusive resort, this is a good option. It's on secluded Tambor Beach, with easy access from SJO via the convenient car ferry from Puntarenas. A majority, but not all of the rooms, face the ocean or have a partial ocean view. The staff was very friendly and the resort wasn't overly full. The pool bar was small but we never had a problem getting a seat of we so desired. Lots of shallow areas for the little ones scattered about. The food is Costa Rican and the music played by the pool is in Spanish, but not blaring loud. It has a nice local feel to it, which my family enjoyed. You can hand feed the iguanas and squirrels on the grounds, and no one will object. Very laid back. My husband and I appreciated the balcony while the kids "gamed" in the room. Unlike the Double Tree in Puntarenas, we were able to book one room for our family of four. Making it much a more economical choice for us. And we were glad we did! Oh, the best part? $17/hr. horseback riding on the beach or $32 for a 2 hour trail ride and then finishing on the beach. And it was like a private tour, only my son and husband both days as they did both tours.

“Good but needs to catch up.....”

Overall a pretty good stay for a few nights, but I wouldn't want to stay longer. The information about daytime entertainment could be better, they could start on time, let people know when they are about to start etc. The pool is nice, the pool bar drinks are very hit-and-miss tho varying in strength and mixer proportions. The Macaw re-introduction programme is admirable and the birds look well cared for and happy. The gym is pretty basic, but if you can adapt you can do what you need to.In 2018 I also expect all inclusive stays to include wi-fi, seriously, pay that much extra and per day? No thank you, it's cheaper and quicker to buy cell coverage.A central lost property would also be useful, and the front desk could be more helpful locating missing items too. No, I don't want to look at a box of sunglasses, that's not what I left in the restaurant! :-D
