    “Excellent service and people are really nice!”

    We would come again and stay with this specify hotel! Kind employees! Food is great! Excellent customer service! People at all times ask you if you need help or if you need anything very helpful. We didn’t have any problems at all.

    “First time in Costa Rica”

    Began and ended our trip at the Barcelo San Jose. Hotel was close to airport, setting was beautiful, staff very helpful, breakfasts were delicious. Our family had a great time! Costa Rica is a Central America gem. Wonderful people, beautiful country!

    “Nice 2 night stay on a Caravan Tour”

    Stayed 2 nights at this hotel which was part of our 9 day Caravan Tour. Hotel was clean, staff were pleasant. Not at hotel much since we were on tour. Meals were okay. We had a chance to play tennis for an hour at one of their 2 courts, but we could only borrow 2 rackets until 5 pm.

    “The 80s are back!”

    This hotel is interesting. The food and service are excellent, and the hotel is in a good location. The property is expansive with beautiful gardens. However, stepping inside is like stepping back into the 80's, and not in a good way. The hotel is need of a desperate facelift. The decor and public area furniture are severely dated, and the rooms are even more antiquated. The carpets are stained, the couches and desks are worn out, and the bathroom is old, old, old. The entire room felt like a "before" picture you see in a renovation TV show and for which you breath a sigh of relief for not existing anymore. They need to shut this place down and rejuvenate it back to life.

    “It was...fine”

    It was fine. Nothing amazing, and it looks like it's seen better days. However, the bathroom was not clean and I can't think of any excuse for a major hotel to let that happen. Cleanliness didn't seem to be a huge priority though--I walked past discarded trash on a common table in the hallway multiple times as did a couple of housekeepers. It was there when I checked in and still there when I checked out.
