    “Great hotel”

    Very nice hotel. Clean rooms and pretty grounds. Good food and nice bars! Were there on a caravan costa rica tour this was ojr first stop. I would recommend. Great rates! We even had free hor deurves and alcoholic beverages.

    “Beginning our Costa Rica tour”

    Our stay was brief - just an afternoon and one night with an early morning start. The staff were friendly. Food was good (we didn’t have a chance to try the Japanese restaurant. The bar had live music (we were there on Saturday night). I can’t recommend their standard Manhattan (my go to and comparison drink) - only so-so, but I wouldn’t hold that against them since this is really more rum country! They have a nice garden and short walkway through it. I would recommend this stately hotel for those looking for a nice place to stay between the airport and the city center. You will need a car or taxi/Uber to get into the city.

    “Good international hotel with descent service, can be loud”

    The location of this hotel is worth noting as it is right off some of the major throughways thus making it very convenient. Traffic in San Jose can be bad, so don’t underestimate the importance of this aspect wether you are driving of being driven. They have a free indoor guarded garage. The check-in is a bit substandard for the profile of the chain. English is spoken well. Spring for the superior rooms which give you access to the executive lounge which has a small buffet and diverse alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. It’s open to 10:00pm, although some of the staff vanish earlier and sometimes vanish for long periods of time during the day. The rooms are spacious, clean and well appointed with all the amenities of an international chain. Beds are comfortable and there are several pillows to choose from. Bathroom amenities are descent. WiFi is good. Only had breakfast once, which comprised of an extensive hot and cold buffet. Seemed fresh and good, although very expensive. Unfortunately, the hotel also caters to events, and this can result in very loud nights. The lobby bar is also loud. I tried calling the reception one night and it took them 15 minutes to answer my call - yes 15 min of ringing. Indicating there was very loud music we could clearly hear from the 5th floor (each word of the songs) the attendant replied there was nothing they could do as the bar was another franchise. Wrong answer. Another issue to be cautious about: when you book online through Barcelo, and are a club member (free) you get a hotel credit coupon “for your next stay” corresponding to a certain percentage of your bill. Having stayed there several times over a two week period, I tried to use them, and was met with complete confusion by the front-desk. Nothing possible, I simply could not use them ($15 and $30). Overall, descent value proposition is you book superior room, and don’t need a lot from eh staff.

    “First Two Days in Costa Rica”

    WHO: Caravan Tour RX81110 WHAT (PROS): - semi-close to the airport - I heard other guest complaining about this, but I appreciated that with the elevator and the staircase, you as the guest MUST use your key card in order to access ONLY the floor in which your room is at (or the common floors like the mezzanine and lobby); gave a greater sense of security WHAT (CONS): - customer service was very nice and welcoming - not the best views from any part of the hotel - food was mas o menos in terms of actual variety, taste, and cultural significance (a lot of the food seemed like it was "white-washed" to appease the taste buds of white Americans/Europeans) WHEN: 11/10/2018 - 11/11/2018

    “The first time”

    Great place to stay , we had a great time with all the activities and the people were very nice, the front desk needs a little help. The Barcelo is very clean and up to date with everything, WI-fi was great and we enjoy all that we did. Take a taxi to town and see all the good things that some don`t see.Give it a thrums up.
