“Expectations for premium level, no where close...”

My wife and I were participating in a destination wedding the week of September 10, 2018. I had read reviews and chose the Barceló Beach for two reasons. 1. Proximity to resort for the wedding. (We wanted our own personal time:-)) and 2. The favorable reviews I read. I travel extensively, so my expectations are modest. My wife however has high expectations, so I booked the premium level experience with ocean front sub deck rooms with bells and whistles. Other than expedited check in, concierge seemed to be “put out” by any requests we made. Room service was horrible, choices limited, and preparation lacked. You have to travel by tram to all ala cart restaurants except one. When we tried to make reservations, (resort had about 15 percent occupancy), we were given very few choices, only to arrive and witness the restaurants at times half full. The food quality seemed good and I was impressed with the choices, but food didn’t arrive hot. The Italian restaurant (Dolce La Vita)... wife’s Alfredo was flavorless... French Restaurant (La Comnde) My sea bass was very good, escargot was over cooked , wife’s Chateau Briande was cold, and flavorless, the bear aisle was also lacking, Kyoto, the Japanese restaurant was ok but no sauces offered with protein selections. La Feunta the Spanish restaurant, had a nice ambiance. And here my lamb shoulder and vichyssoise was actually very good, however the sizzling garlic prawns were anything but sizzling and the grilled cheeses were barely warm, the chicken option my wife chose was also lacking.... buffets are buffets and the breakfast was generally ok, lunch options ok but limited.... enough with the food critique... service personnel were generally were kind and helpful... premium level / concierge service is where I became frustrated... I didn’t expect much except for customer care... I was made to feel that any request was an imposition... We enjoyed Punta Cana, but are not sure we would return to The Barceló Bavaro group... Beach and Palace are the same property... Palace is newer construction so we assume the rooms are nicer with updated finishes. The “Beach” adult only section is older. Rooms were comfortable, but dated... if you choose the adult only section, bring your sneakers and not sandals... everything is a hike...

    “Beautiful ”

This resort is absolutely gorgeous. Plenty of stuff to do day and night. Staff is 50/50, some are so nice and others aren’t as willing to serve. Restaurant’s for the most part are above the average for all inclusive. Do the premium level, it’s well worth the small difference. Don’t expect a great deal from the rooms or you will probably be disappointed. As a non bilingual English speaking American, I found it very difficult to communicate well with most of the staff. If you get anything out of this review, don’t let me talk you out of staying here. a BEAUTIFUL place to vacation.

This is the second time we have visited this resort this year we liked it so much in June we decided to come back for our Silver Wedding Anniversary and it did not disappoint. The only let down was that we had to come home!

“Great Hotel but an Even Greater Staff”

I've been to the Dominican Republic 3 times now but it is my first time at Barceló Bavaro Beach - Adults Only. Since we set foot on the property, the staff greets you with smiles when they take your bags. As you approach the check-in counter at the lobby they give you a cup of refreshing fruit punch. From the activities to the amazing weather, the stay was amazing. Me and my wife keep kosher so we dined at the Chez Gourmet Restaurant. The restaurant itself is not a kosher restaurant. But the accommodated us well. They prepared all the food on aluminum foil and provided us new plates and new utensils. Claudia, the hostess, greeted us with a warm smile and we told her that we keep kosher so she made sure to inform the chef. Faustino, one of the great waiters at Chez Gourmet, made sure to accommodate us throughout the whole dinner as he was well aware that we keep kosher and he provided the plates and utensils. Josefa made sure our order was correct and double checked with us. The whole stay was exceptional and when we do visit the Dominican Republic this is where we are going to stay!!

    “Second trip”

This was a return trip to this resort. The staff were great and the property is well maintained. Could use some room bathroom updates as shower difficult to get in and out. Beach clean and no beach vendors bugging you. Could use more shad in the beach. Overall great experience
