“Pro and cons from hardened Dominican traveler”

Lets start from pros: 1/Absolutely wonderful personnel. Front desk, everywhere people are trying to do their best to keep people happy. At first we were assigned room, which was extremely noisy. We asked to change the room,- they did everything fast and efficient.Never had any problems with anyone from personnel.Everyone was extremely friendly, helpful courteous and professional,Thank you all.Front desk people. cleaning ladies, beach people, entertainment personnel- you were all great. 2/Gorgeous beach.Perfect white sand, wave less sea.Lamentations about seaweed are completely nonsensical. Yes, there is seaweed, which is normal for Caribbean Sea, but people are trying to reduce amount of seaweed ,and they trying to do their best.Beach is in great condition.Probably it was the best in Dominican Republic. 3/Nice rooms. We did not have any problems.Very good maintenance.Cleaning ladies were doing great job.Perfect beds.Great balconies. 4/Nice design of resort.Basically parts only for adults and regular Palace are united, both are easily accessible. We we were in only for adults area- very quiet and pleasant. CONS 1/Drinking. Local wine is completely undrinkable. Everywhere they are selling wine for 35- 700 dollars.House wine is undrinkable not because of lack of any taste in personnel,- every one is telling that it is impossible to drink. It is clear move to sell very expensive wine.It is completely dishonest for all- inclusive hotel.Other drinks( with exception of whiskey) are extremely mediocre everywhere. 2/Food.Huge variety of restaurants and buffets,However food is rather mediocre practically everywhere and not everywhere fresh unfortunately. Restaurants ,where you have to pay 30 dollars, plus 40 dollars for bottle of wine and about 10 dollars of tip- totally around 80 dollars- is this all inclusive resort?Yes there are better restaurants- Dolce Vita, Kyoto. Charcoal meat restaurant. There are absolutely bad places with bad and not fresh food- La Brisa for example. But even the best place are not up the par In summary: For the most we had good time and enjoyed vacations.Thank you ,personnel. Will we return? Certainly ,yes ,to Dominican Republic. I doubt , however about Barcelo Beach. There are much better places.

“Five-Day Vacation; with Wife and Adult Daughter”

We visited one day after Tropical Storm Beryl passed over the DR. We did not see any disarray in the property other than excess seaweed which showed up 2 days later and kept showing up for 3 days despite the strong efforts of the grounds crew to keep the beach clean. That being said, it is a great beach and we thoroughly enjoyed the water sports and just lying around. The service staff at the pool circulated fairly regularly around the pool - about every 20 minutes. On occasion, there were 5-minute waits at the bar and, yes, they should have a swim-up bar at this location. However, this pool was much, much quieter than that at the Palace and we never regretted our choice. Although we could not speak any Spanish, we had no problem with communication - everyone was pleasant and called for an English-speaking staff member when absolutely necessary (a rare occurence). The buffet was only OK, about what one would expect at an AI, but after the second day, we ate breakfast every morning at the Palace, which had a much larger variety. They also included a larger variety of Dominican fare, which we were looking for. The food at the Santa Fe, Kyoto and La Brisa was very good, that at the Hoyo 19 was mediocre. The stage entertainment at the Bavaro Beach was a bit boring; that at the Palace was much better. We worked with Jose, Amstar DMC, on an excursion - the Saona Island VIP, which was absolutly fabulous. Its only downside is that the snorkling just outside the Bayahibe harbor was disappointing, not much to see. We will probably return, maybe hit a nightclub or two.

    “Ok not great”

Great pools and activities, food is average, felt very safe, drinks are good, rooms are below average, service is very poor, tv did not work, AC broken upon arrival but was fixed, glass door was challenging to shut and make sure it was locked, called housekeeping to bring towels that they forget to leave and they never showed up till the next day.

“Fun Vacation with Family July 10-14,2018”

First off let me say that this was a great vacation experience and I have nothing but good things to say about the Barcelo Adults-Only resort. My review is mainly to provide some tips that we learned. For example, take a plastic cup or buy one in the gift shop if you intend to have drinks poolside, the bars use the tiny plastic cups that will be empty before you get back to your chair. Our rooms were great but I recommend you avoid the first floor rooms. I thought the sun deck rooms were going to be great, the picture shows two lounge chairs sitting on the lawn by your balcony. In reality my family never used the chairs and we could have gone with the cheaper option. Also first floor rooms tend to get critters coming in from the outside. We had the suite upstairs on third floor, great room and great view, we enjoyed coffee on the balcony each morning. I do highly recommend the Premium level rooms if it’s in your budget, the premium lounge is very nice and the staff was extremely helpful. Our flight home was delayed and the staff worked with us to get an extra late checkout time. Also, our group was all adults and we highly recommend the Adults Only side of the resort, it was far less chaotic and peaceful if that’s what you are looking for. However, we did spend a lot of time at the main resort, it’s a super easy walk and most of the better stores and dining are there. Highly recommend use of the SPA at the main resort, it’s free and very relaxing. All of our dining experiences were good our favorite was the Mexican food restaurant, very fun waiters. Our favorite self-serve dining option was La Bresia which had great food and an unbeatable view. We took one of the sailing excursions with Hispaniola Aquatic Adventures (my review on their website), if you take this tour don’t have them come to the hotel to pick you up, their office is maybe 25 yards off the Barcelo property and you can easily walk there and save the headache of a van ride.
