    “The Worst Hotel I have ever stayed in !!!!!”

    Let me start by saying I have visited Santo Domingo at least 50 times in the past 4 years. My most recent trip was extended by one night so I decided to try the Barcelo . I figured how bad could it be for just one night . What a mistake ! I arrived early (about 10 am) and the gentleman at the front desk suggested I try the executive floor ( 9th floor) so I did and got room 924. Upon checking in I noticed the AC was blowing warm air that smelled like mildew. After 3 requests to have my AC checked at the so called executive desk with no response I finally had to call a manager. They sent a maintenance man up who opened the filter vent of the AC, stuck his hand in and said it will start blowing cold air in 10 minutes. That never happened. I asked one more time and the girl said are you sure you have it on with the key in it? Yes its on with the key in it and set to 18 but the room is 24.5. Next response was "so you want it colder than 24.5 ? That's almost 80 degrees but at this point I gave up. I had a 4 am wake up to catch a flight so it was useless to try any longer. The whole staff in this hotel was very unfriendly which is unusual for the Dominican Republic. I find Dominican's to normally be some of the friendliest people in the world. How anyone can say this is a good hotel when the staff is horrible, the whole place smells like mildew, the whole hotel is not air conditioned properly. The hallway must have been 90 degrees. On top of all this the whole hotel was without running water for 3 hours. The only decent thing on the property was the pool but the staff there was really unfriendly and the service was horrible. The noise from the outside streets was terrible. I could hear horns blowing as if the road was in my room and this was on the top floor !! There are great hotels in Santo Domingo. Stay away from Barcelo unless you like low end properties.

    overall was good. The Wifi have problem, and always you need to sign-in. The food its great and the Hotel its good too. The location its great, nearly for the mayor street in Santo Domingo. I recommend this hotel

    “Overall”

    Prepare for quality service and very good location. Entertainment is very welcoming especially when it come to Karaoke and live entertainment. The pool area is clean and service and drinks are emmaculate.

    “Nice facility--unfriendly staff”

    This was my fourth Barcelo hotel in Central America and almost all of them, except the Montilmar in Nicaragua have very nice facilities and rooms. The biggest problem with the Barcelo chain in Central America is that most of the workers don't know how to treat their guests; For many years I suspected that they just don't like "gringos," but I think it's more than that --it appears to be poor training and possibly prejudice. I laid by the pool for more than an hour and a half on 3 different days and the pool girls and guys only asked me one time if I wanted a drink! Was it because I am a single "gringo?" I don't know, but it's not the first time I have been ignored at a Barcelo hotel. I could never award these hotels with a five star rating until they learn how to talk with and treat their guests with kindness and respect. When the Barcelo chain bought the Marriott in Guatemala City I noticed a real decline in customer service; it was never the same hotel again. Perhaps this hotel chain could take lessons from the Hyatt hotels or the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs?

    “"Treated like Family"...”

    From the moment I arrived at the hotel, I felt at home. I was greeted with friendly smiles, and personally escorted to the premier level by Bautista. He was super friendly, "English" speaking, and extremely knowledgeable about the area, and "always" willing to assisted me with my transportation needs. Upon my premier level entry, the "smiling" host offered me refreshments, and the city view was amazing... During my check-in, I was assisted by the friendly, beautiful, profession and outstanding communicator, Natacha. She represents the definition of; "outstanding" customer services, and a asset to the Barceló family. I encountered an issue with my online reservation, and during check-in Natacha, went "above and beyond" her job responsibilities, to resolve this issue. The pride she showcased during this ordeal, was commendable. The "exceptional" treatment I received from the entire staff, especially Bautista and Natacha, truly made me feel like a, "respected" and "valued" customer. And I look forward to another "outstanding" experience at this D.R. hotel, again in September..... The room: clean, comfortable, roomy with great views... The food: "very-good", tasty, plentiful, with large variety... The Jacuzzi & pool: clean, warm, relaxing with great city views... The Lobbies "Cigar Bar": live music, karaoke, food & salsa dancing, unbelievable fun!!! Thanks for making my "1st" D.R. experience, a memorable one! :-D D.J. "Satisfied & Dedicated Customer".....
