    “I wouldn’t recommend...”

My husband and I stayed here while on a trip with family. I want to be fair and say that the majority of the staff we encountered were friendly and kind. However, the first day we checked in my sister in law encountered some issues. I watched as she paid in euros the local fee that due for her stay. The next day she got a notification From her credit card company which showed that the hotel had charged the local state taxes to her credit card. My sister in law immediately looked at the receipt she received from the hotel which showed she paid the day before, the issue is that the receipt showed a credit card transaction was made not cash. With that she went downstairs to inquire further not meaning to offend, but clearly this was not correct and the charge made to her credit card should be fraudulent as she already paid the local tax in cash. The staff member she spoke with became hostile and was very upset. I don’t think my sister in law was meaning to offend, but it was pretty apparent something did not go right here. I hate to straight up accuse, but my belief is that the money must have been pocketed. Honestly, we probably would have left the hotel after the incident but we had a large group of family and friends staying at the hotel (for a wedding). In addition the hotel has been under penalty since the end of April (per our travel company-we have this in writing/via email) and the hotel would not refund us for our rooms. I honestly, never write reviews but I wouldn’t not recommend this hotel, nor would I stay here again. I felt very uncomfortable about the situation my sister in law encountered and per other reviews I’ve read, it doesn’t appear this is the first time this has happened to someone at this hotel.

    “Trip to Italy”

It is a very nice hotel, the food was very good. The room was clean and modern. We stayed for 3 nights during our visit of Italy. The bed and pillows were confortable. I would stay there again even though a few minutes from downtown.

    “Not worth the money”

The hotel boasts air conditioning, but there is no air conditioning in the rooms. The Rooms get really hot during the nights. If you expect a comfortable sleep, this is not the place. To use the shower, you have to get into the bathtub and getting in and out from the bath tub can be pretty dangerous. there is nothing to hold onto and if you slip, you can even damage your spinal cord by falling.

Dear Customer, thank you for sharing your comments of your experience at Barceló Aran Mantegna hotel here on Trip Advisor; your feedback helps us to better our performance and to make the stay of future customers more pleasant. Regarding the airconditioning system, in this period we are not allowed to switch it on due to some eco-sustainable laws existing in the city of Rome; moreover some guests even asked for heating system being turned on,since they were cold for this strange temperatures we are experiencing rightt now. We sincerely lament reading that your stay was not as pleasant as it should have been and we would be very pleased to welcome you again in the future ensuring you in advance of our utmost commitment to make your next Barceló holiday experience an unforgettable one for all the right reasons. “Unbelievably hot room.”

The hotel is clean enough and looked really good when booking through jet2 as part of a trip to Rome with my wife. Firstly it is a long way from the city centre and all of the attractions. They do run a shuttle bus to and from the centre but it costs £5 per person one way. So for us, would have cost £20 a day just to get into town. I suggest using that money to book somewhere in the centre so you can at least revisit your room during the day. Our main issue was the temperature of the room! The day we arrived Rome had highs of 26°c. We returned to what can only be described as a sauna! So we closed the window and put the aircon on at the lowest temperature. We tried to go to sleep but the room was not getting any cooler. In fact it was getting hotter. We phoned down to reception and they informed us that aircon was not working throughout the hotel. They told us to open the window. Still unable to sleep, we called down again. We were told that they would bring an electric fan up. And 10 minutes later they did. Unfortunately it didn't work so I took it back to reception where I was told that they would bring up another fan. 15 minutes later we got a call saying that there were no more fans available but they will move us into a different room. So in the middle of the night we had to up and leave into a new room. Luckily we managed to get some sleep in the new room, but there was still no aircon and the room was still uncomfortably hot. Apparently the aircon isn't switched on until May. I'm sorry but if the weather calls for the aircon to be switched on it should be. Especially if customers are that uncomfortable that they cant sleep on a trip that very much depends on getting enough rest on a night to enjoy the next day to it's full potential.

Dear Customer, we appreciate you reaching out on Tripadvisor to notify us of your concerns related to your recent stay at our Barceló Aran Mantegna hotel and apologize if you experienced any inconsistency in our service, we have read your review with our utmost attention and will take note of your constructive remarks. Unfortunately due to uncertain temperatures some of our customers even asked heating system to be left turned on because they were cold. Moreover, the city of Rome joined an eco-sustainability program that bans aircondition untill the half of May. Once again, thank you for your visit and constructive critics, we hope that you had a nice journey back home and to have the pleasure of serving you again in our hotels worldwide ensuring you in advance of our best intentions at all times.
