    “Barcelo Maya Caribe”

My family and I stayed at Barcelo Maya Caribe and had an amazing expericene the interaction with some of the staff was interesting and enjoyed our stay. Saul Ceba at the Mall Bar was absolutely a character he was funny an amazing bartender. If you go to the Mall Bar in Barcelo Maya Caribe I highly recommend asking to see if Saul Ceba is there cause he was an personal funny guy who made you laugh and have a good time. Besides having the amazing staff members the sleep at night became hard if you were on the first floor some people wouldn't ever go to bed and it sounded like bricks were hitting the ground it made it very hard to sleep at night.

    “We enjoyed our weekend!”

We had a great quick trip for a friend's birthday and stayed at Barceló Maya Caribe, Sayil building. Our room was comfortable & the bed was great! We enjoyed all the pools & pool bars & our mall bar bartender & wait staff. They were very attentive & friendly. Since we had ten in our group, we could only reserve dinner into 1 restarurant, Tratoria. Our other meals were at the buffets and they were decent for what we expected. Tratoria was a really nice surprise, in that, eating Italian at a Mexican resort can be a gamble. I had the sea bass, which I loved, and our main waiter Gilberto Lozano, and second waiter Rubiel Vasquez took really good care of us. The meal not recommended was the Bolognese, which the meat sauce came on top of a red colored pasta, which was not at all visually pleasing, and quite off putting. The wine was delicious and the salad bar was nice. The desserts were too small. Overall, we would definitely come back!

“Great family trip to Barcelo Caribe!”

Hello all just returned home from a great week at Barcelo! First of all I want to say that this was my second visit to the Barcelo. My first trip was in 2012 and we stayed at the Colonial. I am pleased to see many many changes to the resort and think it's even more amazing after this trip. Although my trip wasn't perfect the positives far outweighed the negatives in my opinion and I would definitely return some day in the future. Check is was a breeze because we were Orbitz Gold Members and booking thru them they gave us VIP status which meant premium status at the Caribe. Nice surprise! The highlight for us was the use of the spa daily. Awesome spa! We reserved 2 standard rooms and I put in a request for my rooms to be together in the Caribe section and same building as my sister's swim up room and ocean front jr suite. All requests were met. We were all in the Sayil building with my rooms being 5331 and 5332. Perfect! Last trip at the Colonial section I remember my room being very very damp and musty. I did not experience it at all this time in my room at the Caribe. I even brought a small dehumidifier with me and it barely had any water in it. This made me so relieved. Nothing worse than getting into a wet bed at night or putting on wet clothes and bathing suits....yuck. I will say however that the swim up room and ocean front suites were much more damp and musty. I still wouldn't hesitate booking a swim up room, it was awesome and we are grateful my sister shared her patio with us. My biggest issue with my room was the nasty plastic mattress pad they put on the beds. I noticed a stain on mine visible through the sheets and when I pulled the sheets off I saw it was a fresh blood stain and not only that the side I was sleeping on had a large yellow body sweat stain. I immediately ripped it off the bed and called housekeeping for new linens. Other than that I felt the room was decent and clean. We only spent time sleeping in the room so it was fine for us. The other positive I noticed this trip was the lack of mosquitoes. My last trip I couldn't even go into the lobby at any time of day without being bitten by mosquitoes. This time I did not notice any at all at any part of the resort. It was so nice to sit outside at night without being bitten. Not sure what changed but that was great! I will give my honest opinion on each part of the resort.... Beach.......what can I say, the seaweed was a problem most days we were there. The Caribe/Beach section was awful. Not like I remembered at all. Complete bummer and not the hotels fault. The staff really work hard to remove it and I feel sorry for them dealing with it. It just keeps piling up. However the Colonial section was beautiful a few days we were there but those rocks are hard to navigate. We still were able to get in the water which was good. Pools.....we are not a fan of public pools(kids and babies with diapers yuck) so we utilized the swim up pool at my sisters room or the adult pool. The adult pool was amazing, like your own little Oasis. I could not get over how cheap the cabana beds were to rent for the day. In the USA you would pay at least $100 a day to rent one and they were only $20! Highly recommend the adult pool section if you have no kids. Lucky for us our kids are teens so we could escape for a while. Buffets.....we absolutely loved our waiter at the Caribe buffet for breakfast. Dary Perez was so nice and always smiling. He treated us like royalty and had our table of 9 waiting for us every morning. Make sure to tip them, they rely on tips to support their families. The omelette's were great but can take a while to wait in line for them. I really enjoyed a cappuccino every morning. The food was very good at breakfast but the dinner buffet not as good. There were definitely lots of variety so we always found something to eat. I really loved the lentils and of course the grilled chicken thighs were really yummy too. I am a germ phobe and some of the things I witnessed from other guests really disturbed my appetite. Why are people so gross?? I witnessed adults and kids touching the food with their hands then putting them back, kids coughing right over the food, someone scraping their food from their plate back into the trays, etc. I am a qualified food operator because I own a restaurant and seeing these things make me shake my head. I will never be a fan of buffets for this reason. However, not one of us in our party of 9 people got sick from the food. I ended up with a cold the last 2 days but I blame the airplane for that! We did try the Palace buffet one night but did not find it any better than the others. Ala Carte restaurants.....We went to 3 restaurants during our stay. Brasserie, Mexico Lindo, and Tokyo. Tokyo was my favorite then Brasserie. I wasn't wow'd by Brasserie but it was good. Mexico Lindo was terrible. I was looking forward to it by the great reviews it got but my steak fajita meat was so dry and cold. None of our food came out hot. Big disappointment. Outdoor grill buffets.......in the past trip we loved Captain Morgan's but this time we found the food to look old and dried out. We really enjoyed Mariachi grill and Rancho Grills. My husband loved the wings and fries and I loved having my guac, pico and chips at lunch. I loved that they had the staff with hawks trying to scare away the black birds from buffets. Great idea! The chocolate ice cream soft serve was so delish. Reminded me of the jello pudding pops I used to eat way back when. Yum yum! Unfortunately our teens did not want to use the water slides which surprised me. I am sure they would have enjoyed that very much. They did enjoy the freedom to roam the resort as a group and even stepped into the teen club for a few minutes. It was more geared for young teens though. Shows.....we saw 3 shows. Mexican Fiesta, The Couples Competition (which my husband and I competed in lol) and the Circus. We enjoyed all the shows especially the Mexican Fiesta! Pottery painting was fun as usual but they are pretty expensive. All in all it was a really great trip and I can highly recommend the Barcelo to friends.

    “Very good family vacation experience.”

I will start with the bad from our experience. This trip was me, my wife and our 15 and 17 year old children. We booked a Premium Jr. Suite Swim-Up. Check-in was very good - premium lounge is nice and everything went smoothly. However, once in our room (in Sayil building), we began to notice a strong sewage odor. Ironically, the odor was not coming from the toilet, but was stringer throughout the room. My wife and I decided to go out to Jaguar (the on-site club) and stopped by the premium lounge just as the clerk was leaving for the night. She was very friendly and called maintenance. She said they would meet us at the room in 15 minutes to check it out. Not wanting maintenance to be alone with our kids, we went back to our room to wait. We actually fell aslepp and maintenance finally showed up more than an hour later. He was great. He treated the drains with two bottles of something and the smell subsided. He was very friendly and apologized profusely for the wait. The wait was likely not his fault, it is a huge property with many, many maintenance requests I would guess. Next morning we woke up and left for breakfast - when we returned the odor was back - stronger now. We went to the front desk and spoke with Rebecca (front desk supervisor) and she was great. Switched our room (although we had to wait a few hours for the new room to be ready). We made the move later that afternoon with Jasmin in the Labna buidling helping us out. She too was great. New room smelled great and was very nice. Small, but nice. The junior suites are not large and 4 people in a room is crowded (one toilet, one shower). But overall, we were pleased. Now the good - we went to the shows offered every night at 9:30 p.m. They were a lot of fun. The interactive shows (ellos vs. ellas and Ideal Couple) for a blast. The staff was great - particularly (I hope I spell all of these correctly) Nash, Cesar, Danny, Celsa, and Daniel. Buffets were good - waiter Dary in the Caribe buffet was great. Of the various sit-down restaurants, Tokyo in the Maya Mall was our favorite. I can't recall our chef's name, but he was super. All the staff was great. Make reservations as soon as you arrive. They fill quickly and the Palace restaurants are particularly hard to get if you have access (premium level gets access). Pools were great - we went to the Beach/Caribe pool and the Tropical/Colonial pool. Tropical/Colonial pool is more fun. More activities and a little livelier. The staff was again the highlight of the experience - Nash, Celsa, Daniel, Cesar and several others whose names I did not get. The staff does double duty at the pools and later at night in the theaters. All with a smile and great attitude. The bars around the Tropical/Colonial pool were very good. Eleazar was one of our favorite bartenders, although there were several others who were good, but I can't recall their names. Beach area is nice. Better in front of Tropical/Colonial than Beach/Caribe. The seaweed is a constant problem, but the staff does their best to keep it cleaned up. We didn't notice a strong odor from it as some people have mentioned. Plenty of chairs on the beach as well. Parasailing was a blast - although that costs extra. Worth the charge. All in all - a huge, very nice resort. Great staff. We will go back.
