    “2018 Xmas Break”

This hotel is very big, so you can enjoy the many different hotels without having to leave the area. At the Barcelo there many restaurants but you must make reservations as you arrive because they get book right away. We had dinner at the El Caribe, Brasserie, La fontana, la trattoria and Kyoto and of course all the all you can eat buffets. I must say my favorite one was “ El Caribe”, good services, great view and amazing food. The lobster was very delicious, it was grilled to the perfection along with veggies and risotto. The rest of the restaurants were ok, not in my list of likes, specially the Italian one, I love the appetizer in the buffet but the main dish along with the pizza was not very tasty. One important detail to keep in mind is the time you reserve is real, and you must keep your reservation proof else you will not have a place in their restaurant, be On time and bring reservation. But nothing to worry about the buffets are great with lots great selections and tasty desserts. Now, keep in mind ALL the buffets close at 10:30am. I find this too early, specially when I wanted to go to the spinning class which end at 11am. If you go out the night before and want to get up late, then you will miss the main buffets. Of course, they do have a few others open but the food is not the same, it is a bit limited. So plan accordingly. The Gym/Spa: I love working out and eating so much food it is great to find a beautiful and comfortable Gym. There a lot of machines to choose from and a few classes like, Yoga and spinning. I assisted to both of these almost every day guided by Javier Orduna. This guy sure has a lot of energy and I really loved both of the classes. The one comment I must say is the music, I was really expecting my Latin vibe and not song in English, sort like techno vibe, so I had to bring my own headset and Latin music which made it a bit difficult for me to listen his instructions at times. However overall my thumbs up to the instructor. I also wished they had more classes/animation by the beach like step, more interactive games, or even yoga by the beach could have been nice. The Zumba class was very short and it was always the same songs… The Spa is also great, I only had a 25 minutes message, sport message, as a promotion given by the class. Well, so they say! I was also entitled to “……….” But ran out of time and did not get to enjoy that. I stayed in room 8235, Michoacán tower, the room was very spacious, a little walk to pool, beach and restaurant but I did not mind this. The bed was nice and comfortable, except for the pillows, there were very soft and did not help my neck problem. I am not sure how the cleaning up works but I recall having to call them to make my room, left all afternoon and it was just how we left it, specially because we needed toilet paper. This room did not have a pool, ocean view but a garden so the balcony did not get any sun. Service, overall everyone is very nice in Mexico, smile and hard-working people. Of course you can fine a few upset, unfriendly ones, this was the case at the reception at checking out time where my Boucher was not applied to other service I used, despite the fact the Boucher stated for “products and services”. Well, you know how this is when they want you to pay for extra. Beach: The beach corresponding or facing the Palace is very nice, with the exception of a few rocks here and there. If this is a problem for you, then a short walk the neighbor hotel like “……………..” then you will enjoy a much nicer beach but again the Palace beach is still nice. Seating, finding chairs was not really a problem unless you want to stay right in front of the beach. There also have kids club, tennis, basketball, ping pong table and a few other games for everyone to enjoy. My son love playing basketball so he spent quiet a few of time there while we get to enjoy the beach. Pool was cold so I never got enjoy It nor the pool bar. Every time I wanted to give a try, it was too cold.:( Maybe it has to with the fact the weather was pleasant not too hot. There were some clouds here and there and a bit of rain which stop after 10 minutes. So that day we got to enjoy the party at the beach, with drinks, food and music

    “FANTASTIC SERVICE IN PARADISE”

This was our third trip to the Barcelo Maya Palace and we can’t wait to go back. We had junior suites and did not premium level. I see no reason to pay extra for premium based on the wonderful experiences we have had. The buildings and grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. We often saw people painting, landscaping, repairing thatched roofs, cleaning, and picking up after the guests. They always try to do their work with minimal impact on the guest experience. We were given adjoining rooms with a doorway between, not something we had requested but a great convenience. My wife and I had a king bed and our adult daughters had two double beds. The a/c worked very well in our room but it stayed a little more humid in the second room. Not a problem but a noticeable difference. House keeping kept both rooms clean and well stocked. After dinner, we were pleasantly surprised to find housekeepers had returned to our room to tidy up, change towels, and leave chocolate candies on the pillows. Drinks and service at the bars were always great. Ordering the same drink doesn’t mean you actually get the same drink because different bartenders have their own recipes. I usually got my best drinks at the adult pool and lobby bar where the bartenders have a little more time to craft each one. A special thank you to Porfirio Pablo and Nayamin Yerena for their friendly and excellent service at the adult pool! We ate at the buffets for breakfast and lunch. Food was varied and plentiful with something for everyone. Mimosas and screwdrivers were a nice start to the day. The best part of the buffets was always the service, very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the servers trying to help us learn a little Spanish. It was never a problem getting reservations at the a la cartel restaurants. We usually ate at 7:30 or 8:00. RODIZIO was still very good but did not have the same “wow” feeling as our previous visits. Perhaps our expectations have become higher each time. CARIBE again had great food and even better service. Jorge and Elena were wonderful. We usually have Mayan Coffee one night after dinner and we are so happy we chose to have it at Caribe this time. Jorge made our coffees at our table and took the time to explain what he was doing and what ingredients he was using. His skill and presentation while making the coffees was the BEST we have seen. BRASSERIE was our favorite and we were fortunate enough to dine there twice. The food throughout all courses was excellent! The service was far beyond excellent! Miguel and Filiberto were very professional and attentive yet very friendly and entertaining. After experiencing their service on the first visit, we made sure to request them on our second. Our greatest memories of this visit to Barcelo Maya Palace come from our time spent with Miguel and Filiberto. The extra dessert they brought for my family to share on our last night was priceless! Thank you both for everything you did for us. We hope to see you on our next vacation at Barcelo Maya. There is a sommelier that works in the lobby of the a la cartel restaurants. He is so kind and friendly in welcoming you to the restaurants. Thanks to Abimael for adding to the great service we always receive. The sargassum was really bad on the beach one afternoon. It took them a couple of days of hard work to get it cleaned up but we still enjoyed the beach. The beach is in need of some work in some areas, perhaps more sand should be brought in. We took a taxi to Playa del Carmen one day. About $24 US each way. Alberto Vazquez was our driver. He dropped us off and we set a time for him to pick us up a few hours later. He is friendly, helpful, and informative about the area. While he doesn’t work for Barcelo, he is usually waiting on the property. If you find yourself needing a taxi, ask for Alberto. Overall, another fabulous vacation at Barcelo Maya Palace. It seems to get better with every visit. We are looking forward to our next visit.

“too big of a property, hard to navigate, limited variety on drinks. no coke products”

Property was very large. difficult to navigate. food only served at one side of resort so a long walk to get to it. No coke products and the only beer available was corona. Casino was closed and all the pools closed early. you couldn't eat at any of the pool bars or even get chips and salsa. Everything had to be kept in dining areas. limited selection and just bland. Long walk to any and everything.

“Fabulous Resort has something for Everyone”

I returned from a mothers daughter trip to see Dave Mathews last weekend. Never having been to an all inclusive resort, I had no idea what to expect. I booked a premium ocean front room. The room was large with two doubles, 2 day beds and plenty of storage. The washroom was also large equipped with a tub and separate stand up shower. It was always stocked with any amenities you could need, toothbrush, body lotion, shampoos, razor etc. We had a balcony that overlooked the swimming pool and beach. There was also a fully stocked free mini bar that included some snacks as well. It was located a few minute walk from the hotel lobby. Our package included access to the premium lounge which had dedicated concierges available to book specialty restaurants and help with anything else that was needed. We asked about special food items as my daughter has celiac disease and was very worried about cross contamination at the buffets and getting sick on our vacation. They assured us that all would be fine and gave her a letter to give to the restaurant manager when we ate our meals. The morning and luncheon buffets where expansive with every type of salads, fresh fruit, pizzas, steaks etc that you could imagine. There were no lineups and the waiters constantly asked for drinks orders and refreshed water glasses. Even when we were fussy about not drinking the water they would bring sealed purified bottles. The manager would take my daughters order and prepare gluten free pizza, crepes, pasta or what ever else she could ask for. The specialty restaurants had beautiful decor, amazing service and great food. We enjoyed four different ones during our visit and I liked Santa Fe the best. They have a full activities schedule and we did enjoy the stretching classes two of the mornings. We also brought our own snorkel equipment and spent 2 afternoons on the beautiful beach swimming in the warm water. There are numerous schools of friendly fish and we did spot two sea turtles right in front of the hotel beach. Also included with the premium room was an hour a day at the resort spa which was beautiful and clean and fun. We enjoyed the dynamic pool, hot tub and essence scented showers at the end of the day. The children’s pools looked amazing as did the playgrounds. The pools were very busy and it was difficult to find a lounge if we came later in the day. Towels were plentiful. We played mini golf and they do have bowling and even skating. I would skip the dolphinarium as I do not want to promote capture and training of these beautiful intelligent creatures as a means of profit. There were shows every evening but they seemed more or less the same every night with a variation in theme. Perhaps they could include some comedians or magicians to change it up. We were there to see Dave Mathews so were exhausted every night and took advantage of the free shuttle around the resort. My daughter and I certainly had a fantastic time.
