    “Beautiful resort”

Spent a week at this resort, from feb 9-15. Was told that kids went back to school on feb 6th, so luckily we didn't get a lot of locals at the hotel except for the weekend. Apparently this hotel is popular and visited by a lot of Costa Ricans from all over the country. Americans like to go to the Liberia region. Therefore, the daily evening entertainment is all done in Spanish, with no English translation. Pretty much every evening they had karaoke night ... I guess it's their favorite form of entertainment there! Only twice did they have a half hour "show" with dancing and singing. Their singing ended after 11pm and was so loud we could hear it all the way to villa 6 and couldn't sleep till it was all over. At around 6am the birds and monkeys woke up and made very loud noises ... our natural wake up alarm :) The food was ok, not a huge selection, but varied with every meal. My friend who is a vegan only ate rice, beans and some veggies every meal, every day. The country grows avocados but they hardly ever served it. He had to keep asking the chef for some fresh avocado. They only had pure cow milk, no soy or vanilla or nut milks. The buffet place did not make pure fruit juices or smoothies. The beach was very nice, clean, no seaweed, lots of chairs to sit on, many trees and palm trees for shade, and very wide, especially at low tide. Huge difference between high and low tide! Really nice swimming waves all the time! And the water temperature was great too, you could stay in the water for hours. I highly recommend water shoes, as this beach is rocky so walking on those pebbles is quite hard on the feet if you're not used to it. The resort itself is absolutely gorgeous, you feel like you're in paradise. Great, well taken care of gardens, with beautiful vegetation. From our room we could still see the ocean in the distance, even though it was not facing the ocean side. The room was clean, spacious, with two double beds, and the tv had more than just one English Channel. There were lots of things to do at the hotel, from golfing, to mini golf, tennis, ping pong, beach volleyball, aqua gym, dancing, gym, trampoline, rock climbing, a kids pool, etc. Just no seadoos or Catamarans. Overall I'd say the staff need to learn more English. We had asked one of the he waiters if they have avocado and he brought a bowl of ice cream! All in all it was a great resort and we enjoyed it.

    “Vacation”

The hotel was very good. Unofrtunately we did not realize that December and January is the equivalent of our summer holidays so I would have to say they were under staffed. Nino the waiter is exceptional and he made the holiday for us. The El Rancho was fantastic. The beach is excellent for walking and the waves are great playing in. It is very much a kids resort.

    “Used to be better”

We came to this hotel for the first time exactly 2 yrs ago and were very happy with the experience, aside from a few rough edges, we enjoyed a lot our stay. We came again last weekend and unfortunately quality has come down, specially in the food department. The hotel is still well kept and everything in our room worked fine, public areas as well as rooms are clean and well kept, room furniture looks dated but work well. Our biggest disappointment was food. The buffet used to have lots of tasty options, lots of cheeses and cold meats and the flavor of the food was very good. This time we really noticed a change in quality. Food felt cheap and not as many options as before. Desserts were basically fruit, ice cream and several colored cakes. One day, our son was disappointed to find the only options on the kids menu were french fries and hard boiled eggs... We tried the Japanese restaurant this time and it was not much better. It was more a sushi bar with no hot options, service was a bit on the slow side as well. And unfortunately, they keep charging for internet. We still enjoyed our time here, but will be less enthusiastic about visiting again, this used to be one of the last good All Inclusives in CR, and now they'll have to put some love to make it worth it again.

    “A paradise for everyone!”

We just came back from Playa Tambor and are still very excited and happy about our stay. Everything, absolutely everything was great and we loved every minute of our vacation. This was our second time and I know we will be back. Before our travel, we sent an email with some requests and all of them were met with no problem. This is almost unheard of. Right upon our arrival we met the Air Transat rep, Smyrna - what a kind, wonderful and warm human being. We didn't ask for much as we are by nature easy, not demanding and laid back couple but she went out of her way to help with anything we asked for. Smyrna, thank you once again for your kindness, generosity and your big heart. You will be remembered and appreciated more than we can say! About the hotel: food was great, lots to choose from. Please do not listen to complainers and do not take seriously people who have issues. They were born with them! Pronto! Everything was delicious, fresh, served nicely and there was a big variety. Drinks at the bar? Excellent. Service? More than the best. Swimming pool? Clean, well maintained and safe. Beach? Combed each evening, clean and just gorgeous. The sand is a volcanic sand so it is not for everyone to swim if you are not a great swimmer (I am not and a bit afraid) simply because you can not see anything when you walk in the water. One more thing: about your belongings. Please do not worry. The local people you will see there are there for you. They want to sell you stuff but they also watch out for you. You will meet Carlos, the most genuine man I have ever met. Super funny, intelligent and smart speaking more languages than most can. We had a great time talking with him and if you are interested in trips, this is the guy to speak to. The massage lady coming everyday with her dog is a very lovely soul. We didn't speak much and we didn't get a massage from her but her kindness is just radiating from her face and her eyes. Recommended: a quick walk on the beach to Tambor village and Pochotto town. A must see! Just watch out for the tides to make sure you are safe to come back! No kidding here! Also, please go and visit Montezuma town, shopping is great. Horse back riding is a lot of fun especially on the beach and in the forest. Want to see wild monkeys? Go around the hotel grounds, visit he back of the building no. 6 and simply look up. They are the howler monkeys so most of the time they are asleep (they eat the leaves from the acacia trees that ferment in their stomach and make them totally drunk, it is a scientific fact!). Wanna see caimans? Look closely in the waters of the little pond of the hotel property. The view, if you are lucky, is unforgettable. The 12 seater planes are awesome to watch. When they land in the jungle (originally they landed on the beach) they get so low you can almost touch them. You can also feed the squirrels and macaws, it is an unforgettable experience. Make sure you give them fruits, the food that is safe for them. and... the bird sanctuary! Please go and visit. One more thing: if you have a choice, opt for a Sansa flight to get to the hotel from St. Jose instead of a ferry. It will save you time and give you lots of adrenaline rush. Exciting beyond! We went every single day to take pictures of them landing on the beach. All in all: unforgettable. If you meet Herman, a very nice and kind gentleman from Germany who visits this place each and every year for the last ten years please say hello to him. Have a chat, you may be surprised. Finally, email me if you have any questions. Playa Tambor is the place to be.
