    “Amazing Staff”

    One more Family Vacation! Stayed there Sep 26 - Sep 28! Nice hotel and the most important part: The Staff. Edwin (Fernandez I think) Capitan de Saloneros. An amazing person! He knows what customer service is about and he is very professional!! Congrats Edwin, you are doing great! Regards, Jeison Torres, Laura & Franklin Solorzano!     “Absolutely Awful!!!!!”

    When we arrived they gave us very little information about hotel, restaurants etc. no welcome drink or anything to make you feel welcomed. we had to ask many questions to get any answers about anything we needed to know for our stay. Very little English at all even at front desk. We Paid $180 extra for premium package to be told it's only to have premium drinks in the mini bar. Drinks are made with cheap cheap liquor from a plastic bottle. Order a drink at dinner and never came, even after an hour. Room was old and very dirty. Toilet, phone and ac didn't work. Remote control and hair dryer were missing from the room. Then found some kind of black bugs in the bed we took pics of. we were suppose to stay there several nights but we left early the next morning. No manager on duty in the mornings so no one could help us with a refund. I'm disappointed this is a Barcelo hotel. Awful awful experience.

     Dear AGMG2: First of all, I highly appreciate for sending this information about your experience in Tambor. Indeed, we also sorry the inconvenient occurred during your last stay in our resort. For us is very important to give an immediate solution to made up observations coming for our clients. During your stay our staff made the biggest try in providing an excellent service. In our hotel, the premium level is reserved in minibars of each room, however, our manager in duty authorized for your own consumption this kind of beverage in our bars as well. Also, we express our apologies regarding the waiting time when ordering your premium drink at the El Rancho Restaurant. In regards the technical issues which happened within your room were fixed and resolved as soon as was possible. Additionally, about the room´s cleanness, we are sorry for not having been informed ahead in order to solve the problem. It is for us very relevant to be efficient total in this area. Our cleaning staff is always willing to find a real-time solution for every problem or inconvenient. Due to the mentioned incidents the manager in duty proceeded the 19th to make the official return of the two nights which were not enjoyed. Once again, I appreciate your kindness in providing part of your worthy time in making a formal complaint about your situation inside our hotel.     “Perfect for Locals - Not for Tourists”

    The property is a get a way for Costa Ricans. It is a common destination for family reunions and for high school trips and graduations and spring break. The beaches are rocky with brown ocean water filled with silt. If you want an all inclusive resort with all you can drink and basic food with just pools, its perfect. Rooms were basic and well kept. Having known this, I would have driven another 30min - 1hr and gone to the full Pacific side with white sands and blue water. The roads getting here through the mountains were difficult to navigate, TAKE THE FERRY.

    “So so stay”

    Just returned from Barcelo Tambor for a week. Good points: Beautiful grounds Friendly staff Good breakfast Nice enough beach Unspoiled location Decent rooms Negative points: Food is fair to poor Terrible drinks Mediocre excursion staff Poor signature restaurants We arrived during Mother's Day week in Costa Rica and the resort was packed with locals and their families. Not a problem other than all scheduled activities to include children ones were in Spanish. Also there were several days where we gave up getting a drink at the bar because it literally took half an hour and the staff would serve locals ahead of us. Nightly entertainment in Spanish only with no translation and very loud till midnight each night. However I should mention we found the locals and their families to be wonderful and friendly. It was a very different resort during the week. Space in the pool, easy to get a drink. No lines for food. I would strongly recommend checking local holidays and trying but to book during their holiday time. We really felt like we got a completely different experience. Food was okay but not a lot of variety. If you are a foodie or a service snob this is NOT the place for you. We found the local food outside the resort to be much better. Signature restaurants were not worth standing in line in the morning. Stick to the buffet. Our room was okay but the beds hard and there was virtually no water pressure so showering was somewhat of a joke. Reminded me of a nicer motel 6. This is NOT a five star hotel. By US standards it's about a 3. We asked about excursions and the desk staff didn't seem too excited about helping us so we ended up contacting a local tour company that really seemed to want our business. The beach was a bit rocky but still gorgeous and wonderful to relax on. Great location and overall a good stay. Go in with the right expectations in line with the price point and open to engaging with the lovely locals and don't expect great food and you will be fine.

    “High end resort with local flare”

    We were looking for something a little more authentic and local but, there wasn't much available for the last minute accommodations at the time, so we reluctantly booked the Barcelo. Although, it was what you'd expect from a big chain all-inclusive, it was really refreshing that a lot of local people stayed there along with others visiting from other countries in central and south america. The staff were super friendly and although the entertainment etc. was mainly in Spanish, we didn't mind one bit. There were loads of excursions from the resort to get us off the property. We were dreading the long drive back to San Jose, when we also noticed that there was a tiny landing strip right beside the resort, so we were able to book a Nature Air flight back to SJ.
