“Just an "average" rating for this one...more of a disappointment actually”

We traveled with two other couples PROS Biggest pro was our own company! Chairs at beach or pool were plentiful and you don't need to wake up at 6am to set towels down Beach was beautiful Spa experience - one massage and one facial. Both were great! Golf course - two guys from our group went and they LOVED the course CONS Need to pay for your internet...every day! No free internet anywhere Need to pay for Golf...even though they say green fee is free, they NAIL you on the golf cart per person AND the balls. This is a total SCAM!!! A la Cart restaurants at best weren't great at all. There was always a bad experience or terrible tasting food and service Beef in the Dominican shouldn't be an option. They do chicken, fish and pork really well but definitely not the beef. Doesn't matter how you slice it...always tough tasting meat so not worth it The service was just ok anywhere you went. No one stood out as being spectacular. The al a carte restaurants were just the bare bones minimum for service. I can speak the language but definitely not impressed with the service. Rooms were soooooooooooo dated...OMG! We were in building 6 on the Adults Only side. Yes, they were clean and mini bar was well stocked but not at all impressed with the rooms They 'forgot' to clean our rooms two days in a row!! Guest Services make promises they couldn't keep. Messed up our reservations twice. Unorganized for sure! If it weren't for our group of friends, it wouldn't have been a great vacation. This place definitely needs work! None of us plan to come back.

    “Vacation February 2017”

I love this place. It's my twelfth visit to this property and both my husband and I have no problem coming back. We enjoy very much the food at all buffets. A la carte is not so bad but I would not say is excellent with the exception of la Brisa a la carte is very good. I do find the service a bit lower than previous years. Example public washrooms a mostly not very clean and toilet paper is missing. The animation works very hard but sometime there is lack of participation from the guests. I found out that Gerald is no longer at Barcelo as he went back to school. Good luck to him we miss him. The rest are very friendly and they try to please everyone. Like Marleny Gautier and Orlando Mendez.. I find Maria Sanchez is a very good director .. Sandy (CEO) Made friendship with us and welcomes us every year. Look forward to come back 2018.

    “Great Trips”

Have had 2 wonderful trips here with my fiancee. There is a lot to do at the resort, including all the great food and drink. After getting sick (from the food at Saona Island, which I DO NOT RECOMMEND you eat), Evelyn at guest services made sure to make sure I was alright, which I really appreciated.

    “Excellent stay”

Staff are so lovely here! Animation crew and shows are top quality. Also lots to do on the resort bowling, casino and excellent gym. Added extra with having no kids aloud in this part of the resort. But then in the kids hotels there is great water parks to keep them amused. Would definitely stay here again. A*

    “Waste of money”

My mom and I traveled to this resort on January 30th and stayed until February 9th. We were originally booked in the adults only part and I would not stay in the adults only part again. It was not worth the amount of money we paid, the palace was MUCH nicer. ROOM: When we got there we were taken to our room at the adults only hotel and the bell boy told us you have to put the room key in a slot by the door to turn the lights and air conditioning on. It was insanely hot in that room and we sat there waiting for the air to come on. We called the front desk and told them that the air was not coming on and they said repairman would come in 5 mins. No one came and we kept calling the front desk. 45 minutes later with no air conditioning and no repairman they finally moved us because the air conditioning was not working. The room at the adults only hotel wasn't anything special, the bed was hard as a rock and there was a door separating the bathroom area from the bedroom areas. We were supposed to get a room with 2 double beds but got a room with 3 twin beds. We had a crappy view of the road coming into the hotel which was considered a garden view. They then moved us to the Barcelo Bavaro Palace and we stayed in a Juniour suite. It was gorgeous and had a beautiful view of the beach and a Jacuzzi. The palace rooms are definitly a major step up from the adults only room and their beds are much more comfier. But, we did have problems with that room as it did have air conditioning but it wasn't very powerful and the fridge did not work for 2 days and leaked everywhere. Also, the Jacuzzi did not work and when the repairman came to fix everything they never actually fixed anything. Also my mom was very upset that they never told us that they were moving us to the palace which is a kids resort until we were there and she booked the adults only specifically so that we would not be with kids. 2 days later they moved us to a different part of the palace because there was nothing available in the adults only except our old room. The front desk manager named Hazela (that's how its pronounced, can't spell it) was amazing and helped us out and did everything she could so she moved us to a better room in a quiet area in the palace. In our final room we had a gorgeous view and were probably only 50 feet from the beach and a Jacuzzi. The only issue with that room was the fan was broken and we asked for it to be fixed 3 times and no one came to fix it and someone stole the remote from the room and I asked for a new one and I got a broken one and than never got a new one when I asked for one. BEACH: The beach was very nice. We went to Cuba last year and I am torn between that beach and this beach. There is lots of seaweed at this beach, but if you travel farther down the beach towards the adults only section it is much nicer. The water was really warm and there were some fish. There is a rope that only lets you swim to a certain area because there are catamarans and speed boats going by. The sand is really nice and soft and there are not many shells at the beach. There are always lots of beach chairs available. FOOD: The food at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach was decent. It was not horrible but it was not amazing. The pizza was my favorite. We only ate at the Beach resort a couple of times and than ate most of the time at the Palace buffet called Miramar. Miramar had better food and a lot more options. I wouldn't eat the roasted chicken at Miramar as more than once it was pink and made my mom sick. Their chocolate desserts are amazing. Their waiter service is slow and they aren't really happy if you go up and get your own drink. The lasagna I also had, had squid in it and was definitely not my favorite. Sometimes they would also open up their second buffet for dinner. POOLS: I did not go to any of the pools at the Palace but the pool at the Bavaro beach was really nice and had a little hot tub/Jacuzzi thing in the middle. The chairs by the pol did fill up quickly but people were not allowed to hold them. THEATER/CASINO: We watched a little bit of the circus show and it was interesting, but we watched all of it when we went to the grand theater at the palace and it was a lot better there. We went to the casino and it was a lot smaller than it seems. They say that there is over 100 machines, but it feels more like 50. But we did good and won our money back. The only issue I had was I was followed around the casino by someone who works there and I believe it was because they thought I was too young. SHOPPING: The stores at the palace hotel are VERY expensive if you are Canadian as everything is in american, but the souvenir shops are decently priced. They had lots of stuff to look at though. We went to the market which is all the way down the beach past the adults only part of the hotel. If you go there bring smaller bills and separate them in your wallet because the sellers look in your wallet to see how much money you have to barter. They try to lure you in by giving you free bracelets and you can barter them down. The shops in the back are better than the ones up front. We also went to the San Juan shopping centre and it was $10 there and $10 for a taxi ride, it was nice to go there and get away from the hotel but it wasn't anything special. EXCURSIONS: We did not do any of the excursions from the hotel, but we did one that we found on here. We did Fun Buggy and it was AMAZING and I HIGHLY recommend it. It was an eyeopener about how the people in Punta Cana live and we got to visit a gorgeous beach called Macau. SERVICE: The service at the hotel was so unbearably slow. Every maid that we encountered did not speak English. Everyone that came to fix something in the room never actually fixed anything. But we did have one bell boy that I cannot remember his name, but he was amazing and super nice. We also liked how they have a train that takes you around the resort so you don't have to walk if you are going from the palace to the adults only one.
