    “Amazing vacation!”

We stayed at Occedental Carbe Feb 10 - 17. We had an oceanfront room. Beautiful view! Deck faced the ocean. We were in room 3222. Beds comfortable, clean, maid service was good, and fridge stocked. It was the center of everything. The only negative was that the buffet was right outside our door. Dishes clinking from 6am - 11 pm. Earplugs cover the noise. The people were very friendly. Our favorite was a bar tender, Ismeal. He greeted us every time he saw us. He rinse our cups out every morning. He worked at the quite pool and the lobby bar by guest services. Radhames made us perfect omlets at the big buffet every morning with a smile. Mayra was a nice waitress at the pizza restaurant. These are only a few. The grounds keepers to the bell hops were great. We had no problems with check in. Food was wonderful. We went to all but the Mexican restaurant. Our favorite was the French. Our least favorite was the Dominican. Service was great at them all. And if you do not care for something you can still go to the buffet afterwards.it was very windy the whole week so you needed to put your towel out by 7 to reserve a hut near the pool which was protected from the wind. The saxophone player in the evening was amazing.

“Excellent stay, away from a busy life”

Only bad part of our stay was, that the food quality on the buffet could have been better. Otherwise the stay was excellent and very relaxing. Huge beach with alot of room for your family. Great pool. Weather was excellent. Views from the room were as well

“Not sure a Family Vacation spot”

Me (56), wife (52) and grandson (3) NOTE: my review is of the hotel AND NOT my overall vacation. Each area I will rate out 1-5 with 5 excellent. Check-in: (2) extremely slow and unorganized. we didn't get our room until after 4 but only after I discussed with the supervisor. Room: (1) we were in block 7, 4th floor. DISGUSTING and way below standard. Bathroom; tub so old it was painted white and peeling, shower was a trickle, tiles broken, etc...you get the jist. Blocks 4, 5, 6, 7 have not been renovated for over 30 years Beach: (5+) Bavaro beach is amazing, but Occidental has the best Pools: * swim-up pool (2) clearly a party pool and the music from 2-5 makes it unenjoyable for us. the wade children pool in this area is in the line of fire of the 'partying area...please note, the people there had a great tie partying!! * quiet pool (5) more relaxing and nicely laid out with pool loungers, bubbly area...lots of fun. close to bar and washrooms * kids water park (4) excellent area for kids!!! only reason I gave a 4 was the washrooms were too far away and...well didn't see a lot of kids leaving to.... Restaurants *main buffet (3) food was not bad but not lots of selection. found breakfast chaotic; dirty tables, lack of servers for coffee or juice...way under staffed. No jams. No orange juice *pool buffet (3) too open to elements. Birds flying into food . Not lots of choices *pizza (5+) one of the best pizzas we've had. ate here 4 times. get there early as lines form just after 12. I liked the vegetarian and had pepperoni and ham added *Japanese (3) missed a lot of 'glitz' you'd expect to see. There was more yelling than a show. food was ok. *generally - red wine was poor, service lacking, under staffed Lobby Bars (5+) nice way to end the day. both had live entertainment...piano at one end and saxophone at other Other: *no WIFI unless you pay $50 *grounds well maintained...mature palms...not a lot of flowers tho *no safe lock...I was afraid to ask *staff did a great job maintaining resort even with challenges *generally staff were very friendly (there was the odd issue) Hope this review helps...PS, we had a great vacation!!

    “Loud pounding music”

Oh dear. Big resort with lots of lovely pools, mature palms, green lawns with few blooms. Block 7 ocean view, dated room, spongy soft bed😩, gross, dirty, bathroom with painted tub. Single pane sliding door to small balcony. The pounding music can be heard everywhere even in your room with doors, drapes closed. Sometimes 3 sources of pounding loud music at once. It was nuts. Now add the steady flow of helicopters flying low enough overhead that made me turn to look every fly by. Blue, red and grey helicopters all equally loud. Like a war movie!! That's Punta Cana! Bavaro beach is amazing! But during this visit the incessant strong and constant blowing wind whipped the dry sand across our calves. We would walk on the wet sand and carry our little on over the dry sand. Due to the strong wind it was not very relaxing or enjoyable at the beach so we spent most time at the pools. Swim up bar pool: Busy, loud, with drunken guests. The pounding music was so loud here that we could not have a conversation so we swam further away. Wading pool: Beside drunken swim up bar pool w loud music. Boom boom boom the music blasts! Children's waterslide pool: Super fun! Keeps kids happy and busy for hours! Slippery and adults are not permitted to slide but may climb up and escort wee ones. Lifeguard or security guard on duty use whistle to firmly stop rough housing or unkind guests. Well done!! Great job!! The toilets are too far away and kids pee on palms and bushes and.... Quieter pool: Has fountains and bubbly tub. Very pretty! Submerged sunbeds! Super nice! The music is part of the background and its a quieter area. Great for families and couples! Very nice thatched shelters and some canvas umbrellas that are 'reserved' very early! The buffet was bright and had blinds preventing birds. The arched ceiling was pretty and we never saw a cat. It was the same food every day. Boring. We have seen so much better. Great, friendly servers everywhere! Struggled to clean and change, set tables for busy hours. Got our own utensils and water a couple times. Great sax player in bar area! Loved the keyboard too!! $50 for wifi or free in casino. Overall hallways, areas, lobby were all clean and cared for. We felt safe. Maybe the buffet is understaffed. Professional photographers circulated outside with a tiny monkey, iguana and parrots for fun holiday photos. We had a fun time but the strong wind really made it less relaxing for sure. Add the inescapable pounding music and the helicopter tours overhead and it was a little much. We had fun but this resort has its limits and you should know what you are paying for. Happy and safe travels to you all!
