“Very Nice Resort & Great Location . . . But!”

This is my last night of 3 night stay with my fiancé here at the Occidental Caribe. The hotel is very nice, ocean view room superior room. A fantastic view of the main swimming pool and the beach. Very pleased with the room, the swimming pools, and beach. Victor at the pool bar and restaurant was awesome taking care of are every need when we sat there. We had a very romantic lobster dinner on the beach. The buffet was at best average, we ate there twice and that was enough. . . . But I have one major complaint, tonight, our last night of our stay, we ran into a very belligerent drunk at the Pizza Restaurant who actually made a threat of violence against me. As went to inform the restaurant staff of his behavior, the staff did nothing, even as the man drunk continued to talk in bullying manner. I went to the front desk, and eventually Guest Services to inform them of this situation, all I received was a "We're Sorry". It is now 11:00 p.m., and we are stuck in our hotel room because my fiancé is afraid to leave our room because of this drunk and his friends. We had planned to enjoy the 9:30 Dominican show, and then an evening at the night club, but here we are in our hotel room on our last night because she worried that this drunk and his friends might start a fight! . . . Because of the casual and uncaring attitude of the hotel staff in regards to this incident we will never return to a Barceló property!

Check-In was lengthy. Poor house keeping, took 2 days to get washcloths. Rooms need renovation. Beach, bars and Japanese restaurant were great. Evening entertainment by piano and saxophone players excellent.

Have some patience during check-in!, might even need to get a room change lol, but after that cool staff makes for a nice trip. Shout outs to Omar and Bayron keeping the drinks frosty and real recognizing real; two good brothers.

    “Vacation May 2017”

Our first impression of this Hotel was amazing. Everything was sparkly clean and the view of the ocean and pool is breathtaking. We were having such a blast, best vacation ever until we noticed that we were treated with indifference. If we requested a service, it was not handled as fast as other people (European, Whites). In some cases, when asked for assistance, even at the bar the white people would get treated with more enthusiasm. Hence, if I walked to the bar and a few minutes later a white person approached the bar as well, the white person was getting the service before me despite that I got there first. Also, when calling costumer service from the room, if we spoke Spanish some staff would even hang up the phone. bare in mind that we are Dominican-American. When we noticed the indifference, we started to speak English to everyone. This was the only way we were guarantee to receive a decent service. many staff discriminate against their won people. When they see Dominican tourists, they refer to them as "primos" who come to the hotel to disturb the peace of the place. I found that very disturbing since we all pay to stay in the hotel. It is not free and for us who live in the United States is just the same as for anyone from Europe. We need to take a damn plane to get there. And what was even more disturbing, we were a group of 5 but one was very light skin, could possibly pass for European. I heard staff saying that he was the one with all the money because he was white and that he paid for the entire group of people. One night, a part of the roof from the bathroom felt on one of my friend's shoulder. We called costumer service to report the issue and no one responded rapidly. They hanged up the phone on me twice. They only spoke to me when I spoke to the in English. I was very furious. No medical assistance was offered despite that he got a big cut that you could see the inside of his skin. Experiences like this discouraged us from ending our vacation short and left the hotel a day prior to our check out date. We anxiously waited for months to go on vacation and release the stress we live in NYC. However, I have to point out that we were treated very nice and kind by the majority of the women who work there, especially, Diana (she makes the best Pina Colada), Vicky (who was an exceptional personal and catered to our needs and made sure we were happy with our stay), Francisca (who is one of the most kind hearted persons there), and many more girls. The only problem in this hotel is management. Our vacation was not ruined to the maximum because of the hospitality we received from most of the female staff. I cant say the same for the male staff. They were unfit to do their job and to treat everyone the same.
