    “Very pleasant and worth the money.”

    People go to resort's and all inclusive for different reasons. I went to the Occidental to scuba dive and have an acceptable place to Eat and sleep. I've been here 4 days and have no serious complaints. Pro Dive here has been great. Have enjoyed diving with them . The room is extremely clean and comfortable. The staff here have been wonderful. The grounds of the hotel are lovely. The beach and pools are beautiful. The food is good ( not great ) but good. Considering what I pay a night it is a great value. No question if I come to Cozumel I will stay with them or Allegro which is their sister property next door which I have stayed at before.

    “Solo-visit, off-season”

    I flew in on September 7th and stayed in the Royal Level. Lets start with the negative: September 7th: No airport service. So, if you’re not renting a car and decide to get a taxi, make sure you already have pesos. Otherwise they’re going to try to charge $30 USD for a 12 minute trip. 350 pesos is the standard charge, which will save you $10 USD. Had to wait an hour for my room to be ready, even though the resort was at 20% capacity and even less in the royal level. Buffet closed due to low capacity (again, 20%). Because the buffet was closed, I had to abide by resort rules and put on pants in 90 degree weather with 98% humidity to eat at a la carte restaurants. By the way, the royal level restaurant (that I had to change into pants for) was empty. Not as in “a few people there,” but as in I was the only person there… I should be able to wear whatever I want. Even at royal level, I was told that laundry service was pay only. September 8th: The lowest price for sunscreen was $27.75 USD! I traveled with a carry on and could not bring my own sunscreen due to 3oz rule. Shame on me. Same for the insect repellent, $12.50. Sure, Cozumel is an island, but even the Virgin Islands don’t charge near $30 for sunscreen… I feel bad for entire families that vacation here.. Found out the complimentary “mini-bar” only included two modelo beers, which were re-stocked every other day. Yeah, royal level mini bars only got two beers every other day. Also, the second day of room service did not include any additional towels or refreshments. Power went out. I asked why and I was told they were updating the WiFi. Nobody had an actual answer. They were doing something that tripped my room's specific fuse. September 9th: Buffet closed again, even on a Saturday night when I saw dozens of people around the resort. So I went to the royal level restaurant, where I was told I had to put on pants and that I needed a reservation. I had to explain to them that the buffet was closed and I didn’t have many options. They waived the reservation, but still made me return to my room to put on pants in 90 degree weather. The drinks: Get shots with every drink, because the liquors and beer are very obviously watered down. A shot with each drink will negate that. I had one luke warm shower during my stay. It was at night when everybody was asleep. All of the others were incredibly cold. “Lights out” at approximately 12AM. Huh? How am I supposed to see where I’m going when the lights are out? Maybe this was a power issue? 3 of the nights during my stay, the lights were shut off in my building after 12AM. September 10th: Everything was good all day until about 1AM, when I was kicked out of the adult pool. Why was I kicked out? Because it was closed. Excuse me? I’m an adult, I’m sober, I paid a lot of money to come here. Why am I being treated like a child? So, “Damien” comes and tells me the pool is closed. I ask why all of the lights are on and he gets on the radio and says something in Spanish. He then has his security partner shut off all lights while I was still in the pool. Damien then asks what room I’m staying in. I simply say, “No.” and Damien gets back on the radio and waits for me to get out of the pool and escorts me to the Royal Level. WOW! Sober, cooperative and escorted to my room while on vacation. I never felt so unappreciated while on vacation. September 11th: I called for room service because it started raining. I was told that room service was not available because it was raining.. Room service is primarily for when guests don’t want to leave the room, like when it’s raining. May want to change that policy... The Good: (Aside from Damien, the pool dictator) The staff was very professional and polite. They always had a smile on their face. They interact and always ask if there’s something the can do for you. They’ll go out of their way to accommodate you. In five days I was never hounded by the “yellow shirts” that some people have mentioned. I never had anything pushed in my face. Maybe because of off-season. Exchange rate on the resort was decent. About 16.20 peso to the dollar. Global rate at the time was 17 pesos to the dollar. Previous reviews have complained about the mosquitoes and the wild life. Hello? You knew where you traveling to. That being said, I got bit by mosquitoes maybe 4 times in 5 days. The reptiles didn’t bother anybody and the coates only came around when people left food laying around. I only used bug spray the first day, in preparation for all of the comments I read. Aside from stuff being closed, the 20% capacity wasn’t all bad, being that I pretty much had the resort, beach and pools to myself a lot of times. Beautifully kept grounds and my room was nice. I never had a problem with the AC or any other amenities, aside from cold showering water. Also a very nice beach. Even if it does get crowded, you can travel about a quarter mile to both sides of the resort beach property and have a safe and beautiful beach to yourself. Overall; Even though the negative looks like it outweighs the positive, I would recommend this resort. My negatives were just minor things for the most part, that they can easily improve if they chose. I’m sure the restaurants and events are more readily available during the busy season. But in that case, they should lower rates for the off season, especially if they’re not going to provide what you pay for.

    “Another Great Year”

    Yet another year at occidental Cozumel. Service was as usual excellent from the wait staff. Checkin and concierge services never fail to excel. Spa services were excellent with Erika Gutierrez giving me my first ever massage. Great!

    “1st time in Cozumel.”

    This location had beautiful views, helpful staff, lots of activities near by, rooms were spacious & up to date. The water was clean, in the shuttle we shared a lady said at her hotel the water was kinda green & smelled funny. I am glad that we did not have that issue at Occidental. The employees are all accommodating & ready to assist & answer your questions. The food is all inclusive so do not expect your basic run of the mill buffet, they serve more Hispanic dishes than anything else, while carrying yummy sea food, burgers, hot dogs, & some small pasta dishes. But they do have 2 additional restaurants you can go to just in case you don't like the selection at the buffet. Expect to see wildlife like turtles, Kuwait, & frogs. I loved my experience & will be back in 3 years probably.

    “Worst Food EVER!!”

    I've been to Cozumel every year for the last 8 years. Have stayed at almost all the all inclusive resorts. Occidental had the worst food I've ever tasted. Rooms were very nice and the beach was well groomed and very sandy. But the horrible food will keep me from returning to this resort. We resorted the horrible food to many staff members, who would agree with us and state many other guests have also complained. But nothing was done. And they have a reputation for the lack of quality in food. It was difficult to even find fresh fruit/vegetables to make it through the week.
