“Not Sure what all the rave reviews are about”

This is hotel is nothing fancy or special, I'm really not sure what all the great reviews are about. Granted I was only here for the day so I did not see the rooms. The grounds were beautiful with lots of lush green bushes and trees. The pool was very basic with a sun-shelf which was nice. The beach was a bit rocky in most areas so best to bring some water shoes. They do not offer much for water sports. They had kayaks and a little sunfish sailboat. They had an adult pool as well but it was small. 2 Restaurants and the food at the buffet was basic. Although they did have a BBQ which was FANTASTIC! So really that's it. Not real entertainment during the day. So if you want basic and peace and quiet with nothing to do but read a book it's great. You have to find your entertainment elsewhere.

    “Oasis resort”

Every morning I woke up from my bed and walked to the breakfast buffet, I would tell my boyfriend "I love it here. It's like an oasis!" The resort is amazing. All the staff members there are incredibly polite and friendly. They have all the amenities: buffet meals, sit-down meals (reservations required), gym, spa, adult-only pool, everyone pool, activities for children, wifi (more on this later though), bars, doctor, diving shop, etc. The check-in process was relatively painless. They greeted us with glasses of champagne. To purchase wifi, you do it at the front desk, and they were running a promotion where it was $45 for our whole week's stay. You get a piece of paper with the username and password. Unfortunately, only 1 device can connect on wifi at a time, which was a bit frustrating. To log off, you have to go to IP address. Annoying, but I guess you're in Cozumel at a resort to relax and hopefully take a break from all that social media and work. Every day there's a "Sunset Post" of the hours of events/meals/buildings. It does get a bit confusing when you can get food though. The Beach Club (restaurant by the beach) is only opened from like, 11:00am - 4:30pm. Dinner buffet is served starting at 6:00pm, ending at 9:00pm. Late-night pizza, which you have to sit down to order specially, starts around 9:30. A bit inconvenient at times. To make dinner reservations at their 3 sit-down restaurants, you can only make reservations the day of, between the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm. Apparently the system doesn't allow for advance reservations. They also don't take too many reservations at one time because the restaurants never really seemed to fill up. While dining, it did seem like the restaurant wasn't very busy, but I appreciated the extra attention and that exclusivity feeling. The food in general was pretty good. I appreciated the variety at the buffets, and the sit-down restaurants were pretty good too. Walking through the resort is an adventure. There are luscious trees, shrubs, bushes lining the walkways. Birds call out and fly around. I've spotted turtles, coatis (raccoon-like mammals with reddish fur and narrow snouts), iguanas, lizards, hummingbirds, and a baby wild pig through the resort. As an animal lover, it was a dream come true. The gardens are all kept very clean and trimmed. If you find a gardener and ask him for a coconut to drink out of, he'll give you one if he can! Our room was very comfortable as well. The AC worked wonderfully and the bed was comfortable. The TV quality was a bit shoddy and there was water leaking from the ceiling in the bathroom at one point, but they came and fixed it in a reasonable amount of time. Despite the little quirks, I really loved this resort. I got teary-eyed when I left because everyone just treated me so well!

    “Not worth the money”

The air conditioner doesn't cool the room. The shower is either cold or lukewarm. The buffet and room service is flavorless and very limited variety. The drinks are very hit or miss depending on the bartender. The only good margarita we could get the whole time was from 1 bartender, and he was in the Members Only First Club. Several of the beers we got throughout our stay tasted almost sour and had a weird odor. Save yourself the disappointment! Book elsewhere!

    “scuba @ the occidental”

overall a nice property. Our first All Inclusive experience. The facility, rooms, reception, landscaping etc was fine. The food is awful. Pro Divers SCUBA did a nice job of facilitating instruction and tour guiding

    “Great Place”

2nd time at the Occidental Grand - this time with kids. Nice small resort - Royal Club worth the extra money and Maria and Margarita were the best! The ala carte dinner restaurants were fabulous and the staff was amazing.
