    “Excellent! Excellent!”

This was our sixth visit to Cozumel and our fourth to the Occidental Grand Cozumel. We love it here! We are treated like family! The grounds are beautiful! My husband got his scuba license here on our first visit back in 2009. Although this is our first visit since new owners took over, we found everything wonderful! We especially liked the improvements made in the food restaurant by the beach now being closed in by glass. I must say that the best part of the resort are the people that work there. We love seeing the same people whenever we visit. Rulo and Sonia are the best, just to name a couple. Having them there brightens each day. Along with the sunshine of course. We will definitely be visiting again next year. We always greeted with "Welcome Home" and that's how we feel.

“Late with this review but never forgotten.”

My apologies for posting this review so late after my visit. (Feb) I was actually staying at the Allegro for my vacation but wanted to check out the Grand while I was there and visit with some old friends. I was greeted warmly by Carolina and we got to spend a few minutes chatting and catching up. She's just as friendly and accommodating as always. Then I was tapped on the shoulder and surprised by Alberto (used to manage the Allegro) Hugs and kisses all around, it was so good to see him again. After a nice conversation with them Sonya came by to escort me through the grounds down to the beach. The grounds were immaculately kept and jungle like with lovely colourful buildings tucked between the foliage. Sonya was gracious enough to show me around everywhere and had me settled onto a beach chair with a towel and drink in hand. We chatted for a while and then she left me to tend to her "kids". The beach area is quite lovely with a pool and pool bar that was staffed by super friendly bartenders. I would imagine the guests that stayed there really loved it. They all looked quite happy and content. Sonya came by again with more drinks and more time to catch up. Eventually I made my way back through the lush grounds to the lobby, to say my goodbyes and thank Carolina for the lovely afternoon. Sadly we said our goodbyes with the promise that I would visit again. I wandered back along the beach back to the Allegro which was a short ten minute walk. If I wasn't so attached to the Allegro I would not hesitate to stay at the Grand among some of the nicest people I know. Definitely check it out!

“Has the Potential to be a Great Hotel, But Fell Short.”

Check in: Not a pleasant experience, bad start to the trip. There is a strict NO CHECK IN BEFORE 3 policy at the hotel, unless you pay the 'special fee'. It would have been good to know so we could prepare ourselves for it. We had called and emailed 3 weeks prior to our trip with our room requests and 3.5 hours our room was finally sorted and we were allowed to enter it. Staff: The staff in general was MAJOR let down with the exception of the house keeping staff who were wonderful. Any time we approached the staff with simple questions (where can I get a beach towel, what time does the restaurant open) we were meant with a cold annoyed attitude. There is not nearly enough staff bar/wait staff on the resort. On average there was one waiter for the beach and one for the pool all serving out of the ONE beach/pool area bar. Note: There is a bar at the adult pool but we did not visit the adult pool. Beach: The beach itself is great, there is a roped in area to protect swimmers from the boats. The snorkeling is good off of the beach. However, there are no palapas on the beach (the hotel pictures are lying), you're not allowed to bring the umbrellas from the pool down. There is little sun cover on the beach besides the palm trees, which are great but are limited and generally leaves people crowded together on the beach end of day to get a break from the sun. No complimentary shuttle service to town, despite the fact it is posted on their website. Kids club: Oiiiiii, an activity for the day for the little kids was the comb the beach looking for cigarette butts. An announcement was made that the child who brings the kids club leader the most cigarette butts will win a special prize. It was quite disturbing to watch. When we approached the Kids club Leader Sonia she became confrontational and asked for our room number.I understand and respect keeping the beach clean, but children? Isn't that what the hotel staff is for? In short, if you have kiddies, I wouldn't recommend putting them in the kids club. Rooms: Are a great size, we were in building 16, room 1624 in the middle of the action. Ask for a 2nd floor jungle facing room if you don't have mobility issues. Food: Nothing special, avoid the seafood restaurant. Walk down the beach to Albertos instead. - There were constant lines for everything and anything (not enough staff) - If you want prompt service expect to tip big. - No conditioner or body lotion in rooms, they do supply shampoo, soap and body wash - Buy/bring everything in advance, the hotel is a long way from a store and the gift shop prices for are triple to what you would normally pay The hotel has the infrastructure to be an amazing hotel (if they added a beach bar and palapas on the beach and doubled their staff size). Stay somewhere else, there is no bang for your buck here.

    “Fantastic Resort!”

This is a beautiful place and it is well-situated nearest the island's best scuba diving reefs. The rooms were spacious, beds comfortable, food delicious and service was great (thanks to Cristy at the main restaurant)! The resort is extremely clean and beautifully landscaped in the jungle. My 3rd floor room was up in the canopy! They aim to please everyone by providing nightly entertainment, afternoon games on the pool deck, and a first-class kids club at no additional cost (except for generous tips)! The ladies who run the kids club were very kind, attentive, caring and cheerful toward my son. They taught him to play chess. I would not hesitate to book back and to place my son in the trusting hands of Sandra Garcia and Sonia Ceballa Canton, the ladies who made the trip so special us and for my son while my husband and I were diving and relaxing! Go....you won't regret it! If you are a diver, there aren't any lockers at the dock so prepare to haul your gear back and forth daily...the only bummer.
