    “The Accidental Cozumel”

The diving and dive shop made the vacation worth it. The service was so bad that it nearly went in the other direction. I will be returning to Cozumel and Playa del Carmen many times. Never here again. Legend has it that this was, at one time, a fabulous resort. It was then bought out by Barcelo and the rest is a sad sad story. When I arrived, despite being promised wifi, there was no wifi in my room. When I called the front desk, they said there was no wifi throughout the resort. My friend arrived a little while later, was in a different complex (for the same price) and had perfect wifi. When I went to the front desk, they said I had to pay for an upgrade, despite acknowledging having promised wifi and that other rooms for the same price had wifi. Moreover, they couldn't make the adjustment until the next day because they never have a night manager on duty. The rooms are terribly noisy (think a studio apartment in Manhattan under the ball pit at a Chuck E. Cheese's). And they are generally unable to provide services that resorts should. Last, I know one is not supposed to expect much from the food at an all inclusive, but this one boasts 4 restaurants. My friend and I visited all four during our visit (plus the buffet). They are all literally from the same kitchen, serving the exact same proteins with slightly--SLIGHTLY--different sauces. None of them are tasty. Again, the dive shop was good. That earns the second star. The actual staff was perfectly lovely. But I cannot recommend that anyone stay here under this management. I was thoroughly disappointed and felt I had been swindled out of my money. Good thing there are Cenotes and eagle rays to see nearby!

    “Cozumel, 2017”

Too much pressure by the Vacation Club program to upgrade. When I declined I felt like I was a 2d class member. The facilities, however, were exceptional. The wait staff was very accommodating. I disagreed with the various bar locations having tip jars on the counters. This is an all inclusive resort. the presence of these jars emphasized a practice in which I would normally participate, albeit, at my whim or fancy.

    “Fun in the sun! ”

I just got back from an 11 night stay at the occidental in Cozumel and it was SO much fun! The resort is beautiful, to start our room was great, with a huge bathroom and fantastic balcony. The pools are perfect, one for those who choose to relax and one for those who prefer activities, like water volleyball, I prefer the second! The beach is AMAZING, snorkeling right off the beach was one of the coolest things I've done, I saw a stingray and at least 10 different kinds of fish. The food is great too, I highly recommend the breakfast buffet. My favorite part was the staff, they are attentive, friendly, and accommodating. I especially enjoyed the bartenders Carlos, victor, Giovanni, Justino, and Santos. They will remember your name and you're drink, the service was more than excellent. Last but not least the activities crew Edgar, sonja, and Jesus. They are fantastic at their jobs, getting people into activies like water polo, beach volleyball and my favorite, pool volleyball. Their friendly and outgoing personalities made each day by the pool so fun! I am can't wait till my stay with occidental of Cozumel next year!

Overall, great experience and we would like to return in the future. Hotel room was very good and clean. Location is excellent. Food was good. Beach was excellent and sunsets on the beach were beautiful. Gabriela at front desk was very helpful. “Tennis at Occidental Grand Cozumel”

The resort has two nice hard-surface tennis courts. They are well shielded by thick bushes from wind. Four flood light posts are there - although two were non-functional and the other two were partially covered by tree branches while I was there at the end of 2016. Hopefully someone from the resort read this post and do something about it. The courts are regularly cleaned by workers. With the superb weather at Cozumel, the courts - if the flood lights work - could be the highlight of a tennis enthusiast's vacation.
