    “Needs renovation ”

    There have been upgrades to the property but not the rooms. Our room was clean. But the bathroom mirror was cracked. It looked like mildew/mold all around the tub. When we showered the drain in the floor had water gushing out. Prices have gone up but the rooms have not been updated unless you stay in club premium. Food is decent. I found the tropical buffet better than the beach. Layout is better and seemed better quality. The beach is beautiful. Weeds cannot be helped, but the resort tries to clean them up. When we were there the grande restaurant wasn’t open and we had to go to the one with the ship. The restaurant gets very warm at lunch and very few shaded spots. It was our fourth time. We would come back. But this year the concerts were when we could travel but the party scene isn’t us.

    “3 times lucky”

    We've stayed at the Barcelo for 3 years in a row. We visit as a multi-generational family and mostly partake in water activities. Just love this place. Clean, friendly and welcoming. Enjoy the convenience and quality of the buffets.

    “great place”

    everyone was amazing. The dive shop all remembered my name after my first visit. The only bad vibe was after I had checked out I said I wanted to eat before they cut my bracelet. The receptionist said just stop by and ask to get them cut when we were ready. When we went back, there were over 20 people in line so I stepped up and asked to get my bracelet cut. The woman was very condescending and even though she did give me the exit slip, she told me off like a child. Why is this system set up that you must wait in line over and over? Why not just let the bell hop cut the bracelet?

    “Standard Food and Accommodations”

    First, know I was there for a concert weekend. I would not have chosen this sprawling, city unto itself were it not for this. Know also, the staff was incredibly kind, helpful, shirt of your back. It's way too big to speak of personal stories, but the folks I cam across that worked there were, in general very nice. That said our room in the Barcelo Mayan sections (look at a map, this is a gargantuan hotel), building Uxmit (or something like that), was old looking and small. Perhaps 350 sq ft, if that. While the amenities, were comfortable, they were basic. The rooms were kept clean by a devoted staff. Our meals were mostly buffet and of the lesser quality. The one night we didn't go to a concert, we went to their 'heralded' French Brasserie, paid an extra $20 per person. And, you get what you deserve. It was below average, with steak that lacked real flavor, lobster that was rubbery, a good french onion soup and an endive salad with limited imagination, and one leaf. The push was for us to by an overpriced bottle of wine. The rest of our trip was relatively average food, greasy, salty, limited variety and minimal day to day change. The wifi was pitiful. We paid an extra $25 per day per person for things like wifi (that didn't work), hydrotherapy for an hour in the spa (this was nice, as was the spa/had nice massages there!!), better check in service (arguable) and entrance into the 'Premium Level Lounges' (had nothing special in them), and 'Premium Level 'International' Licquors' Needless to say, I am a Grey Goose drinker and it was heartbreaking to learn that this hotel considers Stoly a 'best ever' vodka. Absolute and Sky and also 'premium'. Ha!! On another note: as a concert venue, this place was GREAT!!! Great shows, all inclusive beer delivery to your seat (GA only), on the beach. An experience of a lifetime and ALL their employees worked their butt's off for their guests!! Food in the venue was, as expected, ok.

    “So worth it!”

    Wonderful property and staff. Everyone was always smiling and went out of their way to make sure the guest was happy. Very clean, nice, good food, nice beach, and nice pools. I hope I am able to return!
