    “Great all inclusive resort”

Barcelo Maya Beach is one of five adjacent resorts on a beautiful stretch of crescent beach. Our accommodations were very nice. King size bed, a couch, sitting area and desk. The grounds are immaculate but the entire facility is huge. A double decker bus acts as a shuttle between the various sections. Plenty of pools, even a dedicated lap pool. They have a surf rider pool at extra cost. Most everything is included in thr "all inclusive". We were at the premium level which gave us extra perks like free wifi and top shelf liquors. Staff is friendly and helpful. Dulce, who checked us in, was particularly knowledgeable and helpful. Rooms were kept clean. They have several buffet restaurants to choose from for all meals, but we checked out most of the specialty restaurants and found them to be great

“Good but not sure if we would go back”

Well like most of the comments the check in needs to be addressed. Im not sure how a resort can see on tripadvisor many times that the check in is an issue and not do anything about it. We were lucky and got to the front of the line before the crowd got there but still took us over an hour and half to check in. With only a few people working the front desk it doesnt take long for a line to form.Im sure the people at the end of the line waited well over 2 hours before they got there rooms. To start we had an issue with our room.We had booked an ocean front suite with a joining room but they had us down as 2 superior rooms. We were guaranteed that the rooms would be together but we were told that our boys would be in another building since it was superior rooms. The sheet had the 2 rooms together but apparently one of those rooms were given away. After arguing with desk they finally got us a room down the hall from each other. We decided to leave it at that for that night since we had been up since 5:30am. Next morning we talked to ur sunwing rep (nexus rep) at the hotel. She said to leave it with her. Around 2:00pm we met with her and Israel from the hotel. He was a great help. He apologized for the inconvenience. He was able to get us into the room we originally booked but without the a joining room. Not a good way to start. The hotel grounds are beautiful and clean. The pool was big with a great swim up bar and very large with lots of seating. Just be careful because in the morning people go down and lay towels down to claim seats. The beach is also nice with great sandy beaches. The all you can eat buffet is a typical buffet. Each night the change up the theme. The a la carte restaurants are different story.Book into them right away or you wont get in. Stay away from the Santa Fe steak house and the Seafood Restaurant. The food is terrible. You can get the same quality at the buffet. The Tokyo Japanese restaurant was the best food we had during our stay. Everything was fresh and amazing. Overall stay was good but I think next time we will try a different resort. It wasnt one of those stays that makes you say I have to come back.

    “Beautiful Resort”

Just returned from the Barcelo Maya Beach Hotel. I cannot speak highly enough on this resort. I will begin with the reception. Could improve (very slow service) not enough staff to accommodate the arrival of people. Resort: Extremely clean Room: Needs to be updated but very clean. Excellent mattress and pillows. Foods: Lots of food choice at the buffet. Excellent restaurants. Three staff people stood out to us on our over the top friendly service and hard work. They were: Jesus and Ivan Uh and Nelly Bautista. Beach: Beautiful. Negative: Need more shade at the beach and pool. We loved this resort and would definitely want to return. Thank you for such a memorable trip

    “FAMILY VACATION”

My husband and I stayed at Barcelo 14yrs ago for our honeymoon and returned with our children for a family vacation. We were well aware of the additions to the resort and had a great time, however there were some issues. ROOM: We stayed in the Tulum building on the main floor. The room was basic and clean. The negative was the fact that it was so damp and musty. While sleeping the sheets actually felt wet. There were times when it smelled like stale smoke. Since we were only there to sleep we didn't make an issue. Our room was cleaned daily and fridge stocked as well. FOOD: There is a ton of food and no one would go hungry. The buffet and beach grills are hit and miss. I would stay away from captain Morgan's grill since this was the worst one (for us). The best beach grill that we tried was at the colonial. The beach buffet is bigger than the caribe and there is more selection at the beach. We didn't make it to the al la cart or the buffet at the other hotels. Food at the 24hr Strikers was not good at all. POOL/BEACH There was always a lounger to be found. Pools were clean and beach was beautiful. The sand was very hard to dig in if you have kids who like the sand. Colonial has the free water park and both of my kids enjoyed it. Beach section pool more laid back and quiet, caribe pool more activity/music/younger crowd. Colonial a lot of kids, babies and families. Overall our visit was well liked and we will return. There is so much to do at this resort and it ia impossibel to cram into 7 days. There are a lot of people who have extraordinary expectations and some are just plain rude. People just need to chill out and don't sweat the small stuff - you're on vacation.

This is by far the worst place i ever stayed. My vacation was bad already when my check in last 2:50 min., that's absolutely ridiculous!!! Nobody knows what they are doing! Extremely disorganized! I felt like the workers were on vacation not us! I was given the wrong room and they only switched two days later; and I had to pack and carry everything all by myself; no worker came to help. My room was full of roaches and smelled really bad. I have three kids, my youngest still takes her milk in a bottle; but in the dirty room she had to skip her milk, I didn't know if roaches had dirtied her things! My son got hurt playing basketball at 9:30 in the morning; I called the front desk at least 15 times; I couldn't get any help; nobody even knew if they had a wheelchair in the hotel; only the next day a manager showed up to help! Almost 30 min at the omelette station, and they don't put any effort to be faster; that isn't their problem!!! THE FOOD IS NASTY!!!! The buffet is huge; but not a single thing is tasty!!! We were from April 15 until April 21 eating bread, pizza and a yogurt for lunch and dinner!!! The resort is huge, but if you need the front desk to help you, theres only one or two workers; which means you are going to wait for at least an hr. And if you call the call the BARCELO number; where I made the reservation, you can't speak to a manager or anybody who can help; once they got your money thats all it matters to them!!!!! AGAIN, THE WORST VACATION OF MY LIFE!!!!!
