    “Excellent 2nd Stay”

Barcelo Review This was our 2nd stay at this Barcelo. After having an excellent stay last year, we decided it would be the perfect place for our first holiday with our 5 month old son. Before arrival I had emailed the hotel requesting the same room as last year, as it had a bath which we needed for our son. This request was accommodated without issue. The room was large with 2 single beds pushed together, a sofa bed and a cot had been provided at the end of the 2 beds. It had a balcony which overlooked the main pool. The bathroom was large, with the shower over the bath. Some rooms didn’t have a bath, and had a walk-in shower instead. My only criticism of the room is that there is still a daily charge to use the safe at €3 per day. It was reassuring to see during our stay that most of the staff that were working at the hotel last year, were still here this year. Throughout our stay all of the staff were fantastic, and absolutely amazing around our son. The lady that cleaned our room, Isabel, ensured our room was cleaned while we were at breakfast, which was really helpful. It was excellent to see Ivan on reception again. He really helped us last year. However, it was a little disappointing to discover that the email we sent Barcelo commending him on his efforts had not been mentioned to him, nor had the positive TripAdvisor comments from last year. We booked our stay via Thomson (TUI). The rep, Deon, was absolutely fantastic. Very helpful, and recommended a superb trip that was well suited for taking our son on. She could always be seen in or around the hotel, and was happy to chat. This year we stayed at the beginning of September for 2 weeks. At the end of the 1st week the programme of Animacion activities, evening entertainment and restaurant times changed. The demographic of guests staying at the hotel also dramatically shifted from families, to older retired guests. The change in hotel activities makes sense to reflect this. The food in the restaurant seemed to be even better than the high standard set last year. There was always a wide selection of freshly prepared food, that during busy times was constantly replenished. As always with the all inclusive buffet style dining some guests won’t consider others, but there’s not much the hotel can do about that! However, during the 2nd week we noticed the choice at breakfast had been slightly reduced. Service at the bars and in the restaurant was always excellent with prompt service. The grounds, as usual are beautifully maintained. We really liked it that this hotel almost looks like a large villa, no taller than 5 storeys tall, with many buildings no taller than 3 storeys. The water features, beautiful plants and trees really do create a relaxed environment. The pool area is well maintained with plenty of sunbeds. As always there are some guests that will reserve beds, and in some cases were reserving two sets of beds - one set in the shade, another set in the sun. This time of year it was a pointless exercise as there was plenty of beds anyway. The Animacion team worked tirelessly and were always pleasant and helpful. A particular highlight was their dance show. A high quality performance by all the team, and was easily the best of all the evening entertainment. Maria’s contemporary performance to Chandelier was a real highlight. Special thanks to Paco as well for some excellent games of Tennis - it was much appreciated. Overall we had a fantastic holiday, and would return without hesitation in the future.

    “Back again....and again....and again..”

We have just returned from this hotel after a 2 weeks holiday for the 5th year running. We were given a seaview room with lovely views of the fabulous beach and had wonderful hot weather for the whole of our stay. The Reception team are great, always ready to help with a smile. Food in the restuarant has improved over the years in terms of quality and choice and the waiting- on staff work really hard along with the back up staff who replenish the food continuously during all the mealtimes. We went AI and found the service in both bars excellent, with a good selection of drinks available. The bar staff although always under pressure still manage a smile and a greeting! This year's Animation Team led again by the fabulous blonde bombshell Gianni, brought vibrancy to the hotel, we particularly enjoyed Aqua Gym and the afternoon Water Polo games, and the evening live music was great fun under the stars. These guys work so hard to add the the enjoyment of your holiday, special mention and thanks to Paco. We did think though that the fun went down a gear when the Spanish childrens holidays ended, and the events timetable changed on our last few days, along with the Restuarant opening and closing times. We hope to return in 2018 as our year would not be complete without a visit to our "summer home" and its professional management and staff who make it a special place to stay.

    “MORE SUITED TO COUPLES ONLY”

Me & hubby got back on 17th Sept after a 10 day. Found the Barcelo in the Tomson (we only go Tomson) brochure, price reasonable for half board & booked. OK so coach was too big to get round the front of the hotel but the short walk up the drive with our Rep Dion, was no problem. We're in our 60's but for less able bodied persons it could be a problem. Dion is the Tomson rep for the Barcelo only & she was lovelly. Our check-in was smooth, reception staff very friendly. Our room was a twin, situated on 3rd floor overlooking a side street on the left side of the hotel as you face it from the front. We werent bothered about a view, to us a room is just a place to sleep/shower etc. cos were out during the day! It was lovelly & quiet so we slept well. No slamming of doors late at night/early hours of the morning like often happens in hotels. Room was adequate in size, very clean. Beds very comfy but the 'bolster' style pillows were rather hard so I used a cushion instead. If your like me & cant function without a cup of tea or coffee first thing in the morning, DO take a travel kettle & plastic cups. There are no facilities in the rooms for that most important start to the day! There are 2 supermarkets, one from the rear entrance of the hotel, one 2 minutes away from the front of the hotel..the latter being the best one. Reception will give you directions, basically down the drive, turn left then right at the end of the road & supermarket is a few yards down on the left. There is a little fridge in the rooms so keeping fresh milk is not a problem. Bathroom is lovelly, complimentary toiletries & a separate hair & body shampoo dispenser in the shower! Brilliant shower!! Its a double headed shower, one overhead 'dinner plate size' lol!.. & then a separate 'normal' shower head. Lovelly soft white fluffy towels that housekeepers will change if you leave used towells on the floor. Usual buffet style meals which is normal the world over & ive travelled a lot. Hotel was busy & yes some people walk around like zombies! Not very many English guests though..we were outnumbered especially by German guests. A brilliant selection of food catering for all Nationalities at breakfast & dinner. Dinner though being manic! Sometimes there would be a queue after dinner has started. A little disappointed in the food because although meat & fish were hot, the servery counters did NOT keep vegetables as hot as they should be! Food Standards here in the UK would give a defo thumbs down on that! Pool area is lovelly but, as other reviews have mentioned, the music during pool activities is too loud! Although children are catered for there is really nothing here for children to do! Temperatures are too hot for them to be either by the pool or on the beach for long! I saw couples with babies/infants who you could clearly see, couldnt cope with the heat. Guests with mobility scooters and/or walking aids would be ok here too. There were a few elderly guests with these aids, there are slopes to enable access. Theres even a special hoist chair beside the pool so they too can enjoy the water, which is brilliant! I have attached a photo showing said hoist. The snack-bar selection of food is adequate, serving staff very nice too.The Hotel staff are all very friendly & helpful but a few more 'bodies' were certainly needed in the restaurant & chefs too behind the serveries. We enjoyed our chill-out holiday very much. The beach just across the road at the rear of the hotel is stunningly huge! Beautiful & peaceful for a stroll early morning! But it wasnt busy at any time! I would recommend this hotel, you will never get perfection anywhere you go! You have to be able to adapt to the country & culture you are in & enjoy every minute of it just as we did! Thank you to everyone at the Barcelo for your hard work in giving all guests a great holiday!

    “Don't go All Inclusive”

If you go AI, your treated as a second class citizen, your ignored for paying guests, the snack bar is a joke, a health hazard. Food was very poor, cannot understand some of the positive reviews with regard to food, it was awful. Luke warm, tepid, cheap cuts of fish(Melia was excellent) and very repetitive, 3* at best.
