Barceló Isla Canela reviewed by John B on . Excellent hotel We spent a week at this hotel at the end of April and would definitely repeat the future if we ever go back to Isla Canela. Large, well furnished and spotlessly clean room. Friendly reception staff... Rating: 4

    “Lovely holiday”

Booked via first choice on all inc, lovely hotel, wonderful clean room & big walk in shower, hotel food very good indeed and such a great choice of cocktails & drinks from the bar, pool area very nice, staff very friendly. over the road is the most stunning beach with great local bars & restaurants, ate & drank in most of them as we love local spainish food, hired bikes from the hotel €6 for 4 hours & cycled to the marina for more great food, ayamonte is very nice but I do recommend a taxi as the bus never arrived on the days we waited for it, taxi was only €9, lovely lovely time in the barcelo isla canela & hoping to return again in September

    “Great Hotel”

Just got back from a week all inclusive. Rooms, beds very comfortable, shower really great, food was really varied and tasty; pools and sun-bed areas spacious. Beach; sandy with shallow water. Would recommend it.

“Good hotel, but be aware of the promises they make .”

Be aware of the vouchers they are giving you. At the end you cannot use them. We had a voucher of 41 EUR for products and services, but we could not use is for the parking fee, although this wasn't mentioned on the voucher or told us at the check-in.

    “Family weekend”

Overall we had a very good experience, we would like to return and use more of the hotel facilities as we were mainly using the hotel as a base to visit a family member. The staff are very pleasant and friendly.

    “Adequate”

GOOD STUFF: Right next to an absolutely stunning beach Very attractive pool area Nicely appointed bedrooms Comfy beds THE OK STUFF: Enthusiastic events team – albeit with a slightly misguided programme – such as a mini disco in the main bar at 9pm for the 2 children staying in the hotel, as opposed to the 200 adults (most over the age of 60) THE BAD STUFF: First room we were given was dirty – toothpaste stains on bathroom water glasses, sticky stains on the wall with hair stuck to it, bird droppings all over balcony. Wires were hanging out of the wall beneath the light fittings (see images). We had no toilet paper in our first room. The gentleman at reception seemed to think this was funny when we had to ask for some. Second room was better, but the balcony chairs and table were filthy. We had to wipe these down ourselves (see image). Air conditioning shouldn’t really be classed as air conditioning. We always had to leave the balcony doors and bathroom window open to get a cool breeze through as the air conditioning unit was pumping out warm-ish air despite asking reception to help fix this. There were a couple of days of rain. When the rain cleared up for beautiful sun in the afternoon, they didn’t open the pool bar. On a couple of days when the pool bar was open, the lounge bar back in the main hotel was closed. Not acceptable. Dining room was very busy at peak times and getting a table could be a bit tough – not helped by the fact that parts of the dining room were cordoned off. Table clearing in the dining room was poor. It wasn’t uncommon to be on your dessert before any plates from your starter or main were cleared (see image). Some of the hotel staff were very grumpy – particularly one of the waiters. The hotel was redecorated in 2016, and you can see this in the rooms, but if you look at the hotel itself from the outside, the paint jobs, the roofs, some of the windows – it’s all a bit shabby and old looking. All guests that arrived after us were treated to a glass of bubbly, this was not offered to us. No idea why we were treated differently. THE AREA: Not the hotel’s fault, but it’s in a bit of a ghost town. Hardly any shops or bars in anything resembling walking distance. SUMMARY: We had a decent stay but there was nothing really good. Wouldn’t go back, but that has as much to do with the area as the hotel.

Dear Guest I would like to thank you for choosing Barcelo Isla Canela to enjoy your holidays. Also I must thank for taking your time to share such an accurate review about your stay, it will help us improve. Regarding your comments about the cleanning I woudl like to maker clear that we are making the changes needed so that nothing similar happends again. As you mentioned the pool bar is not open when the day is rainy and we open the cafeteria by reception. But when is sunny and nice cafeteria is not used so we just let pool bar open. I am sorry if this decision is not suitable for you. We are working hard in our restaurant to have the best service possible at certain moments of the evenning it can be a bit busy but our team make great effort to have a nice and confortable dinner. Thank you once again for making us your choice hotel and for your constructive critics, we certaily look forward to serving you again and to have the opportunity to exceed you expectations in a not too distant future. Yours sincerely Rubens Ruiz Carrera Director | General Manager Barceló Isla Canela
