    “The whole hotel needs refurbishment”

Asked for a refurbished room was sent confirmation but never got it. The rooms are not to a good standard. Food is good some staff were rude others were great. Very clean but wouldn't stay there again.

“Santiago - lovely hotel, superb staff”

We have just returned from our stay at the Barcelo Santiago. We had a standard double room with sea view and the most inconveneience we experienced during our stay was that the room was set up with 2 singles and not a double. This was corrected by the time we went to bed on our first night - we had arrived at 3.00pm. No complaints about this hotel we've liked going there over the last 8 years and the only thing that changes is that the date we book our next stay gets earlier.

    “Disappointed”

Tired rooms, poor Aircon not functioning. Infested furniture with ants. Have to pay for tea/coffee and kettle daily and it's supposed to be 4 star. Entertainment was very poor quality. Should have a designated smoking area to allow non smokers their rights.

    “Excellent holiday”

Just returned from a 10 day break with my wife. Despite some negative reviews we found the whole experience most enjoyable. The room allocated was on the 5th floor with excellent views of the sea La Gomera and Los Gigantes. Yes the room was 'tired' and need of a refurb but was comfortable. A little more attention required in the cleaning. The pool areas were good with plenty of sunbeds, although the prime areas did tend to be reserved early. We used the buffet restaurant for most of our meals and found the quality and range of food on offer very good. There was always 2 fish and 2 meats available on the grill. On a couple of occasions it was difficult to find vegetables to compliment the meats. As a couple in our mid 60s even we were surprised at the average age of the guests with a particularly large, older French 'Saga' contingent. The hotel is obviously a favorite with many guests returning year after year and many staying for 3 or 4 weeks and we would certainly recommend it. During our stay we did 2 trips. The first to Masca including a stop for lunch and a wine tasting experience. This was made really enjoyable by our local guide Alexander. The 2nd a Freebird Catamaran trip where we were delighted to see numerous Pilot Whales and Atlantic Dolphins. A few negatives: Despite paying for AI we had to pay an additional 3 euros per day for the use of the safe, 3 euros per day to hire a kettle if required and 2 euros if we wanted to change pool towels. On arrival the minibar contained just 2 bottles of water which were not replaced during our stay. Having experienced AI elsewhere I find these extras annoying, 'penny pinching. I would rather have a few euros added to the price of the holiday than feel 'fleeced'.
