“Clean property, however less than average rooms”

Good location in punta cana. Property was clean. Rooms not so much. Housekeeping was poor. Had to ask for towels and water each day. Shower leaked and bathroom was in poor condition. Food was excellent.

    “Beautiful resort. Terrible staff.”

The resort itself was beautiful and we loved the beach. However, staff was rude. My partner and I were flat out ignored by almost every bartender (and yes, we tipped well EVERY time we were served a drink). I asked for a mimosa two days in a row at the lobby bar and they told me they had no champagne left - That was fine, I ordered another drink. Both times, as I was walking away, the bartender I had ordered from was popping a bottle of champagne to serve another guest (with the same color wristband as me). We were hassled every time we passed people who were scattered around the resort trying to sell timeshares - these people were presented as "VIP concierge" as if they were regular staff members. We politely declined and they continued to yell after us that we should stop and talk to them because they are "hotel staff". It got so bad by the third day that we began plotting routes to actually avoid having to be bombarded by these people (which in my opinion is a little sad that we cannot relax and walk around a resort on our vacation without being completely bombarded). Food was alright. Service in the restaurants was not good. In the morning it was a struggle to even get a coffee cup let alone actual coffee. We were never offered beverages in the buffet. We went to the italian and mexican a la cartes. The mexican restaurant had amazing food. We were served 1 drink and never offered a refill. The Italian restaurant was just bad. Food was bad, service was bad, atmosphere was weird. The only staff that I can say anything good about are the groundskeepers who keep the place looking beautiful and the housekeeping staff who were very kind and friendly. We chose not to upgrade our package as it was quite pricey to do so. I did read reviews stating that most people recommend doing this, but it just wasn't in our budget. The biggest thing that we missed out on by not upgrading was bars near the beach and areas able to utilize on the beach. If you upgrade you are able to access cabanas and bars located on the beach. Since we didn't, we had to go near the snack bar to get drinks. This wasn't super far but for 5 of our 7 day stay they only served beer at this bar. They refused to serve anything besides beer even though they had liquor and mix at the bar. So, I had to walk 5-10 minutes to the sport bar or lobby bar in order to get a drink!

    “Occidental Punta Cana was OK”

The resort and food were average. No real issues, but it wasn't something we'd brag about. The pools were nice and clean. Beach was nice too. Our room was tidy, with a few small issues (our slider wouldn't lock and the safety chain on the door was broken). And although we were 4 people there were only 2 shower towels in the room. We tried to call housekeeping and they only spoke Spanish and hung up on us. We did finally get some from house keeping. We weren't happy that we could only get a reservation for one of the optional restaurants at 8:30pm for our stay. That is super late for our kids. But we took it so we could eat some where other then the buffet. It would be nice if they let you book these ahead of time or something. Also, there isn't a ton to do at the resort that is included. With no pool slides, it's just swimming around the pool (which again was nice). There also isn't alot of shade areas on the beach or at the ocean. With no umbrellas. Although the palm trees at both did at least give some natural shade. The ocean was rough while we were there, so the "free" water sports were useless. We watched several groups try to get the kayaks out, but flipped several times and either gave up before getting out or went out, flipped and came back in. Not sure if that was the time of the year or if it is always like that. No snorkeling either. Plus, there are ALOT of motor boats moving people around, that are all in the same area as you would be doing these things. It looked dangerous. But the beach was pretty and although we had alot of waves it was warm and fun. Also, there wasn't alot of communication at the hotel. I guess there was room service, we had no idea there was. There was no resort book in our room, was it missing? No clue. We had to search down the menus to the alternative restaurants to even see if we were interested. We could have also done with out being asked multiple times a day if we wanted to go for the "Free breakfast, get a free massage and wifi" to hear about the new hotel. And being sold to do the Spa the same way. It seems that these people live on commissions. So you get asked a ton. Even when you've said no thank you several times. And it does make you feel bad. It was a nice trip regardless and there wasn't really anything bad, but there are some things that could be improved.

    “Relaxing Vacation with Friends”

Vacationed from April 6th to 13th. We booked superior rooms for our group of 7. We requested to be all in the same building as our request was fulfilled. We stayed in building 10, second floor facing the pool and theatre. It was very noisy until the evening show was over around 11pm.The rooms were updated, clean with comfortable beds. One of our rooms was on the back of the building on the bottom floor which was quite. We went to Mexican, steak and oriantal. Orental was the best, than Mexican second, steak was our least favourite. They have excellent wood fired pizza starting at 6pm and hamburgers and fries after 10:30pm. No free WIFI, it cost $45 per week. You can get a SIM card 300 meters outside the gate for $5 per device or at a shop in the resort for $20 for 4 devices, it worked very well. If you are not at the buffet as soon as it opens for breakfast, lunch or supper you will have to wait in a line to get in. We had good service through out. Nicholas from the Spa was excellent. I would return back to this resort but I enjoy going to different resorts.
