    “January Visit”

    Great experience. Would like an unobstructed view when stated as ocean front. Staff was excellent. Snack bar food was not very good quality or consistent. Restaurants were great. Very small beach area.

    “Worth the money”

    The staff was phenomenal and the food was better than expected. The only problem we had was a lot of things were promised while booking the hotel that were not true, but they were fairly minor things. Overall worth the money

    “Alright...but not what I have come to expect from the area”

    I was here November 16-23, 2018, Okay...first the good news... Check-in was seamless, and my room was comfortable enough. There is a large pool, which was very well maintained. The buffet was okay, but nothing to write home about, given other buffets at other resorts. The service was hit and miss, which I have never encountered in all my trips to Mexico. Ambivalent is the word I would use for some of the staff. Deserving of special mention: Jose at the seafood restaurant. He was initially going to seat me at a table that was right in the middle of everything. When I requested a table over by the window he did not hesitate to accommodate me, with a smile. He was my server all evening and he was a delight. The food was another story, but I will get to that later. Also deserving of special mention: Arturo, restaurant manager. Why? Well, now I move on to the not-so great. Dinner at the seafood restaurant: the mixed appetizer was fantastic! I ordered the seafood risotto dish for my main course and it was TERRIBLE! I didn't eat it. The rice was not only al dente...it was so crunchy I could hardly chew it. So...back to the kitchen it went. When dessert arrived, it was okay. Nothing special for a chocolate mousse, but it was okay. So now for Arturo... He came over to my table as soon as he noticed that there was a problem with my meal. He did everything he could to make my experience better and invited me to the Italian restaurant (next to the seafood restaurant) for dinner the next night. I told him I didn't have a reservation and he said that no matter what night it was, I didn't have to make a reservation...just ask for him. NICE! I did not choose to go to the Italian restaurant the next night and as I was walking back to my room after dinner, he noticed me from inside and came out to see how my evening had been and reminded me that I could come anytime. Now THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is service. I did go to the Italian restaurant for dinner one night, but I did make a reservation. I didn't want him to get any sort of fallout for letting me just walk in. :) Well done, Amigo. On another high note, the Michael Jackson show put on by the staff is AMAZING!! Best show of the week by far!! Overall, the hotel needs some updating. It is amazing what you can do with some fresh paint and a new attitude. My room was practically right beside the main street, which was very loud. I had to leave everything closed up to get any rest. The traffic is BUSY. Still, it wasn't enough of an inconvenience for me to ask to be moved. I just unpacked, settled in, and got ready for my week in the sun. I found the bartenders to be disinterested, and that is highly unusual based on my experiences elsewhere. The beach is TINY compared to other locations. It is, however, well maintained. It is just very small. The BEST part about it is this... It is RIGHT NEXT TO the Jolly Roger Pirate Dinner Cruise!!!!!! WHAT A BLAST!!!! Move over, Captain Hook. There's a new ship in town!!! #pirateshowcancunjollyroger DO THIS TRIP!!! There is only one pool. For anyone used to being someplace that has a separate kids' pool, or an adults only pool, or a swim up bar...this is not the place for you. If I had gotten a great deal on my stay there, I would probably return. As it was, for a mere $40 more I could have stayed at the Blue Bay Grand Esmerelda, which is exactly what I did several weeks later (January 4-11, 2019). I am a single traveler and some places charge more than others for the "single supplement". For what I paid, my experience, with the exception of Jose and Arturo, was underwhelming. I do not think I will return...not for that price.

    Hotel was very nice clean Miguel one of the bar tenders was excellent All of the staff where friendly very accommodating food was good with a few different choices I would definitely stay at occidental costa Cancun again

    “Great small resort”

    Had an amazing time with my family at this resort. Staff are very wonderful! Food was amazing!! For people with small children, it can be a little loud at times especially at night. The Mexican restaurant was the best and Derek there is amazing. No free WiFi but paid only 45usd for the week for 2 devices.
