    “Slightly dissapointed”

Visited Occidental Jandia Royal Level - Adults Only in May 2019 we arrived late so a cold meal had been laid out in the room for us which was very kind, as a added bonus the mini bar in the room was full, however despite saying in the handout given at the time of booking in, the mini bar was not replenished during our weeks stay The room was cleaned every day so it was spotless - couldn't ask for any more, and all the maids where polite however the decor in the bathroom was a little outdated to say the least with a bath that was raised up 2 foot from the floor, and no shower screen . The food in the adults area is edible but it is very limited and if i am honest a little repetitive. The two older male chefs are ignorant and rude, all chicken meat and eggs are cooked to order, the chefs will see you coming and then disappear into the back returning sometimes 10 minutes later - at busy times this is both ridiculous and totally unacceptable the politness of the waiting on staff is brilliant however - what a pity the chefs are not like them The best place to eat is the al a carte restaurant which you can eat at every night if you pre book unfortunately we where not informed of this when booking in so we only went for 2 nights. The Green bar - for adults only - serve premium spirits - the atmosphere is very laid back however at busy periods and depending on which waiter is working you can wait up to 15 minutes to be served - At busy periods why not have 2 waiters on ?

“Nice Holidays with a few flaws”

We stayed for one week in a room with beach view. First of all the royal level is not as true adults only hotel, it is more of a separate adults only section in the Occidental Jandia Playa hotel, whis is a family hotel. The royal level includes separate rooms, bars, pool area and restaurants. If you wanna go see a "show" in the evening or want to use the fitness or Spa or want to go play ping pong, this is all located in the general Occidental Jandia Playa hotel. The royal level is separated with special acces area, where only guests can enter who booked the royal level. Be aware that for some guests (including us) the hotel can give you a hotel room in the "mixed" area, which is the B-Block (previous "Premium Club"). The A-Block rooms are in the marked royal level section, and no children are allowed. However the B-Block rooms do allow children. We cross-checked with the reception and we were offered to be moved to the A-Block rooms in the true royal level section, however we were not disturbed by the family having a room very close to ours and decided not to move. Reception The RL has a separate Check in area, however half the time we wanted to ask something the reception was not occupied and we had to go to the main reception. There is definitely room for improvement. If you mark the Royal level as a separate "hotel" you definitely have to provide guest support exclusively for the royal level guests all the time! Rooms There are the truly royal level rooms in the A-Block and there are rooms in the "mixed" area (B-Block). Be aware of that. Rooms offer a complimentary bottle of cava and a full minibar as a welcome The minibar offers little bottles of red and white wine and a few softdrinks. You do get a big bottle of water everyday. Room was nice with an outstanding view on the beach. The bed and matrace i really have to compliment here. I slept so good in that week. AC was not working a 100% but as it was not super hot we were fine with it. The temp did not cool lower that 22°C. The AC i have to say was very quiet though. Bathroom was big enough with a rain shower. I have that tic to check the shower heads if they are clean or have mold or scale residues, but i have not observed a single flaw. The shower head was super clean and so was the whole bathroom and room. Pool and Atlantico Bar RL has a separate pool area with 2 pools and a jacuzzi. Temp was mixed. There was a pool very chilly and the others were heated. It is very calm in that area. No music, no animation. Sometimes we could hear the animation or music coming from the main pool, however this was very rare and not very loud. We could relax very good in that area. There are plenty of sun loungers available all day long you always get some free ones. I was happy to see that the reserving philosophy some germans have was not super distinctive here. There are also comfortable Bali loungers available too, without paying extra. In general all loungers in that area were very comfortable The Bar in that area is open during the day. You get a lot of cocktails and alcohol of original brands like Baileys, Havanna Club, Licor 43, Tia Maria. Mojitos and Caipis are made fresh without premixed alcohol mixtures (with lemons though instead of limes). The RL definitely is worth the money if you enjoy having a good quality alcohol and cocktails throughout the day. Twice a day the staff goes around the pool area and they serve fruits, orange juices or ice coffee with icecream In the evening there is the Verde Bar in the royal level which do offer the same cocktails than the Atlantico bar, however adds some other superior alcohol like Hendricks Gin. The bar area is nice and calm. You can hear the music coming from the show area from the main hotel in the evening if you sit outside. Buffet The breakfast, lunch and dinner is offered in the Royal level area. Drinks are served/waitered from bottles of original brands. NOTE: Compared to the main hotel, there you have to get your own drinks at little drink "aisles" where you take your own drinks from a tap station aisle. Quality is different. The house wine is very good. The buffet is little but of high quality food. Everything is made fresh. Starting from the very deli dips to the chocolate sauce for the churros. In the morning you get fresh orange juice, a fresh egg and pancake station. What i did not understand is that almost all side dishes like vegetables, rice and pasta are made with meat of fish. You offer 80-90% fresh grilled/smoked fish, seafood and meat anyway at the buffet then please leave the meat and fish out of the side dishes!!!!! I am vegetarian and some days i could only eat salad, dips and the fried potatos because in every dish there was either meat or fish. One time i asked if they could make me a rice dish without the seafood, but it tasted like fish anyway so i assume they just removed the pieces of seafood. I did not bother to ask another time to do me a separate vegetarian dish. A la carte restaurant The a la carte restaurant needs reservation up front. The restaurant offers different themes like Italian, Spanish, indonesian, Tex Mex and asian food. Compared to the buffet the wine and quality of the food is the same but it´s presented in a nice way and it tasted very good and fresh. We went for the asian food theme. They made me vegetarian sushi and rice, pad thai and deep-fried ice. Sushi was good, the pad thai was tasty but was not authentic and just stir fried vermicelli and had nothing to do with pad thai. Deep-fried ice was a miss, too. The icecream was literally liquid like soup in the plate with an undefinable scoop of dough which was horribly sweet and which i could not eat. The thai red curry which my boyfriend had was good and tasty but had nothing to do with a traditional thai curry. Employees Employees were outstanding friendly. Everywhere we went and whatever concern or question we had, we were served with a smile and friendliness. The cleaning lady was super nice, receptionists were friendly, all employees in the restaurant and bar area were kind. What disgusts me the most are some guests of german descent talking very down to the employees and not being nice or friendly and talking in their native tongue expecting the employees to speak and understand fluent german. I have to say the employees do speak a bit german, english and spanish of course. Beach Beach is a 10-15 min walk. The area before the beach starts is a restricted, secured and regulated area for fauna and flora, therefore please respect that and do not litter that area, and most importantly do not feed the animals!!!! Beach and water is absolutely beautiful, and i have been to the maledives, Bali, Thailand and Carribean Sea and i have seen a lot of beautiful beaches, but this one, only a few hours away from germany offers a beautiful turqoise (very cold!) and clear water with beautiful white to off white sand. Sun loungers and parasol cost money. there are some people who celebrate nudism and walk around naked. A REQUEST TO THE GUESTS: Please do not feel disturbed by the cockroaches!!! Especially the areas on the groundfloor might happen to have some of these precious animals. Please be aware that we as humans are only guests in that area and we have to fit in fauna and flora and not the other way round!!!! These are amazing animals who survive atomic wars and they do not harm us in any ways!!! If you don´t like cockroaches or wild animals living there-STAY HOME A REQUEST TO THE HOTEL. Please do not spray pesticides to kill the cockroaches. If guests feel disturbed they can stay home in their sterile insect-free environment Overall, we liked it in that hotel and would definitely come back for good. I don´t think that another adult only hotel in fuerteventura offers that level of poolarea, food quality and cocktails for that kind of money.

    “Nice But Not Really Great”

Stayed at this hotel at end of August start of September 2018. Spent 11 nights here with my wife in Royal Level. Room type was a suite. Holiday was very nice, room was large with good bathroom, excellent view. Room was tired though as were a lot of parts of the hotel. Arrived in evening and the Royal reception area was closed so we had to check in at the main hotel reception. This was a really poor check in experience, there are simply no other words to describe it. Staff slow (it was not busy) and seemed to have no interest in guests. Not a great start and hotel needs to address this. The royal reception area also seemed to be closed a lot of the time we were there. Not sure why they had it!!!! Good points were the majority of staff. They work hard and are friendly. The drinks package in the all inclusive is good with plenty of branded options. Royal areas are relaxing with plenty of beds and no children. Only one person serving drinks during day though. The Royal area has its own restaurant. For us this had a few limitations and we ended up only really using for breakfast. As mentioned in previous reviews they seemed to have real problems keeping food warm. Also when we were there the cooks manning the cooking station kept disappearing leading to a waiter or waitress having to go and get them. This was same at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The result tended to be a build up of people waiting to be served. For the majority of our holiday we ate in the main buffet restaurant. This has an area for Royal guests and table service for drinks. Much wider service and food was hotter. There was an a la carte restaurant with themed nights when we were there. This was ok and made a change but to be honest was not great. There is no entertainment in Royal area. There is a Royal lounge at night but if you do not smoke you will not be able to sit outside as literally full of smokers. Entertainment in other part of hotel was ok but does have a lot of kids. Also seemed to be a shortage of bar staff that could lead to long queue of people. Overall holiday was relaxing, had a nice time and enjoyed but hotel does not compare to other adult only hotels considering money paid. For this reason would not return.

    “Very Disappointing ”

We experienced a number of issues during our recent holiday. We are frequent travellers, taking four or five holidays each year. We know that things will occasionally go wrong but this time the cumulative effect of the problems made our stay very disappointing. When booking the holiday to the Occidental Jandia Royal Level we believed that we were booking an exclusive and high level of service.  On arrival the dedicated Royal Level reception was not manned.  In fact this was the case for the next two days and we therefore had to queue for the main reception each time we needed to speak to somebody.  We were told when checking in that the A La Carte restaurant was not open for the duration of our stay.  As this was one of the things we considered when making the booking we feel that we have paid for something that we did not get.  We should have been informed before we actually arrived.  The absence of the A La Carte restaurant obviously increased the pressure on the Atlantico buffet restaurant.  On three occasions we were unable to get seats within the restaurant and were forced to use the main hotel restaurant which was crowded and noisy with children. As we had specifically booked "adults only" we were not happy with this.  The room that we were allocated was not in the actual Royal Level of the hotel but was down a dingy corridor behind the main hotel reception. It actually looked like a service corridor. The room was part of the main hotel rather than separate from it as we had been led to believe.  We did have access to the Royal Level facilities but were not in the Royal Level section.  Children were shouting from balconies above us and on one occasion were runnng around on what was supposed to be an exclusive Royal Level terrace. When we queried this with the hotel we were told that some rooms around us were normal family rooms.  Again, this is not what we had paid for.  The room itself had several issues. The lock on the terrace door was broken so the door could not be secured and the toilet cistern was running continuously. These issues were put right when we told reception (queuing again!) There were black stains on the curtains, damaged woodwork and electric sockets that did not work. Loungers were marked and worn and the overall impression for a hotel that was marketed as a luxury experience was very disappointing.  The room had twin beds despite our booking a double.   After two days we were reallocated to a room in the Royal Level proper.  We specifically asked if the new room was the luxury room upgrade that we had paid for and the receptionist looked blank and said that it was a "Royal Level" room and that they were all the same. We subsequently checked that this was the case and that all the Royal Level rooms also had a view of the sea.  We strongly feel that we paid for a room upgrade that was not necessary as all the rooms are the same.  Problems continued in the new room. Wall lights were loose and fell over if touched. It was not possible to control the room temperature as the thermostat did not work. We were told that the air conditioning was not actually working.  Despite this, for the first two nights in this room the air conditioning was cycling off and on every few minutes. This kept us awake.  Everything in our room was turned off and we were told by the technician that the noise must be coming from the room next door.  So we were being kept awake by next doors faulty air conditioner that supposedly was not working anyway! After two nights the noise stopped.  Knobs in the sink and bidet plunger mechanism were missing, the bidet one was impossible to operate.  On 25 March the water went off while I was using the shower leaving me covered in shower gel. There was no water in the room.  Though eventually restored the water failed several times over the next few days.  At 11pm on 25th we were awoken by a workman knocking on the door. He had come to fix the lights! We had not reported any problem with lights and suspect that he had come to the wrong room. We did visit the spa but found the steam room not working and covered in black mould.  Looked like it had been out of action for some time.  The heated benches were not heated and the shower that I tried to use had a broken head with no sprinkler. Individually most of these issues may have been disregarded, though not really acceptable.  Cumulatively however they did detract from our holiday. Overall the hotel falls well short of the adults only exclusive service that we were expecting.  Specifically from a financial perspective, we strongly feel that the unnecessary charge for a room upgrade when all the rooms are the same and the absence of the A La Carte restaurant without prior notice was not acceptable. Our holiday was booked with Thomas Cook and we have tried without success to address the issues with them. Regrettably they are ignoring us.

“Don’t be put off by the hotel exterior”

Stayed at this hotel SIX times with the last THREE at Royal level. That should say it all. Two couples we spoke to are coming back next year and the hotel reception said that many people return. The hotel exterior is not inviting-We wouldn’t say The paintwork is tired, more like comatosed! This doesn’t reflect on the inside which is clean and bright. The pool and restaurant areas are exceptionally clean. All staff are very attentive and pleasant and nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent, as is the range of foods on offer. The gym has a fair range of equipment but this is high quality and not like we have found at some hotels. Good range of activities on offer with yoga/Pilates most days and access to a personal trainer if required. The rooms are comfortable with flatscreen TV, fridge and tea making facilities. Bathroom has two showers, standard and rain dance. The hotel is situated on the edge of Jandia with great views of the beach and nature area. Will definitely be returning there as it has such a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
