Tour Description
Discover Cáceres, a UNESCO World Heritage City since 1986.
This will be a walking tour through its historic center, dating back to the Middle Ages, explored through its most significant monuments.
We will begin the tour at Cáceres’ Plaza Mayor, a large square dominated by three monumental towers: the Grass Tower, the Pulpits Tower, and the Bujaco Tower (inside). We will enter the latter to discover the history of Cáceres, as it houses a museum. We will also climb to the viewpoint to enjoy beautiful views of the Plaza Mayor.
We will continue towards the Arch of the Star, the gateway to the medieval quarter, reaching Santa María Square, dominated by the spectacular Co-Cathedral of Santa María (inside), showcasing several architectural styles developed in the city, such as Romanesque, Gothic, and Mudéjar. In this square, we will also discover the Palace of the Golfines de Abajo, notable for its 16th-century Plateresque-style façade, a palace where the Catholic Monarchs stayed during their visits to the city.
We will then continue to San Jorge Square, home to the Church of San Francisco Javier (inside), a city icon recognized for its two white towers. We will enter the church to admire the 18th-century painting depicting Saint Francis Xavier on the main altarpiece.
We will also visit the Provincial Museum of Cáceres (inside), where we will descend to the beautiful interior Arab cistern.
We will cross the old Jewish quarter through Plaza de las Veletas, reaching the Tower of the Baluarte de los Pozos, a defensive tower from the Arab period and part of the Almohad citadel once found in the city.
Finally, we will visit the Forum of Los Balbos and the Town Hall.
We will conclude the tour with a tasting of typical local products, enjoying a carefully selected sample of regional gastronomy.
The itinerary may be affected by opening and closing times of the visited buildings and/or by city crowd conditions.
