Tour Description
Step back in time to the heart of Augusta Emerita, the capital of Lusitania, where keeping citizens entertained was essential for the Roman Empire. Our tour begins at Plaza de Margarita Xirgu, home to the magnificent Roman theatre and amphitheatre.
Enter through the vomitorium and ascend the cavea, discovering how seating reflected social rank. Explore the orchestra, where the chorus performed, and the grand stage, framed by the stunning scenic front, Mérida’s most iconic landmark.
Learn about the International Classical Theatre Festival, still celebrated here today, and uncover its origins. Then, visit the remains of the Roman amphitheatre—smaller than Rome’s Colosseum but no less impressive—once alive with thrilling gladiator combats.
Step onto the arena floor to imagine the drama of the battles, made even more spectacular when fierce wild animals joined the fight. Experience firsthand the power, spectacle, and entertainment that once captivated an entire Roman city.
Together let's take care of the environment and turn the future into a better destination. For a regenerative tourism.
