What the experience includes
On this gentle, 7-hour guided tour you will discover the mountains of the central part of the island. Our tour will take us through the protected natural areas of Roque Nublo, Pico de las Nieves and the volcanic caldera of Bandama. We will also visit the curious and picturesque towns of San Mateo and Teror.
Our professional guides are specially trained to provide expert insight during the trip and answer any questions you may have, making each excursion a unique experience. This is why there are never more than 18 people per group.
The tour kicks off with a visit to Caldera de Bandama, the only remaining active volcano on Gran Canaria. The spectacular crater is 1 km in diameter and offers fantastic views of the northern part of the island. We will then travel through the Santa Brigada wine region, with its lush green agricultural landscape. We will make a stop in San Mateo for you to get to know the town and the local way of life. On Saturdays there is the added bonus of a market selling traditional products of the Canary Islands.
We will then visit Pico de las Nieves, the highest peak on the island (1,949 metres), Roque Bentayga, Cruz de Tejada and Roque Nublo, an impressive natural monolith standing 80 metres high, and considered sacred by the ancient pre-Hispanic natives of the island. Its symbolism was passed down through the generations to establish it as an emblem of Gran Canaria.
All this will be enjoyed from spectacular lookout points affording breathtaking views of valleys and ravines. Together we will discover the history, legends and peculiarities of this fascinating untouched landscape of mountains and forests.
As a fitting end to our tour, we will stop at the pretty little town of Teror to visit the quaint little church dedicated to the patron saint of the island, and to enjoy some free time for lunch (not included in the price), or take a stroll around the old town.
This fantastic day out is a unique opportunity to take a personalised tour of the awesome peaks and verdant wine region of Gran Canaria.
