The landscape of Las Médulas is the result of Roman mining activity that reshaped the terrain into what can be seen today. This guided visit offers insight into both its historical significance and its distinctive natural setting.
The experience begins with hotel pick-up in Ponferrada and transfer to the site. Upon arrival, the visit starts at the visitor centre, where a short audiovisual introduction provides context about the origins of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will then follow a guided walking route of approximately two hours. Along the way, you will learn about the extraction technique known as ruina montium and how it transformed the landscape, creating the reddish formations that characterise the area today.
The route takes you through paths surrounded by vegetation and terrain shaped by human intervention, offering a comprehensive view of the site.
The visit concludes at the Orellán viewpoint, where you can take in a wide panoramic view and fully appreciate the scale of the transformation.
