Covering over 74,000 square metres, the Parque de la Batería is Torremolinos’ great green lung, the Central Park of this famous town on the Costa del Sol. It enjoys an exceptional position, with views of the sea, and provides an amazing green space without the need to leave the town. The Park lies to the north of La Carihuela, next to the Montemar train stop, and is perfect for enjoying leisure time, exercise and fun family outings. The park has over a thousand trees of 25 different species.

One of the great attractions of the Parque de la Batería is its artificial lake, which covers an area of over 9,000 square metres, and its 15-metre-high viewing tower. The park also has a network of paths, an area for physical exercise, a cycle track, a running track, a huge 650-square-metre children’s play area, and a stage where outdoor concerts and shows are held throughout the year.

In an old coastal defensive battery

The name of the park derives from the former coastal defence battery that was once located here, and which protected the town at various times during the history of Torremolinos. In fact, you can still see a few artillery cannons and two underground bunkers, from which projectiles were fired towards a target on the cliff face.

The Parque de la Batería opened in July 2007, and is divided into three areas: On the huge artificial lake, at the centre of which is a statue of the god Neptune, you can go rowing in one of the small boats available for hire at a reasonable rate. The Venetian carousel with more than 50 carriages and animal figures is perfect for young children, and the amazing Árbol de Chupetes [Dummies Tree] is a way for children to say goodbye to their prized dummy as they ‘grow up’. This is a Swedish tradition that gives children the chance to hang up their last dummy along with a note or a drawing, and visit it whenever they go to the park. And the icing on the cake: from the 15-metre-tall viewing tower visitors can admire one of the finest panoramic views of Torremolinos and the bay of Málaga. In addition, there is a lift to facilitate access for visitors with any physical disability.

Another lift with space for eight people has recently been installed, connecting the Parque de la Batería with the seashore, in Avenida de Carlota Alessandri.

We should also mention, for the benefit of visitors arriving by private vehicle, that the Parque de la Batería (Torremolinos) has 150 parking spaces next to the main entrance.

Why visit the Parque de la Batería

The Parque de la Batería is Torremolinos’ giant green lung, a natural space where people can enjoy leisure time with their friends, with their partner, on their own, or with the youngest members of the family. There is lots to do in the park and in the area around, so it is an excellent option for having fun and getting some exercise. It is worth mentioning that there are various ways into the park, as there are three entry points: the main entrance from Avenida del Carmelo, and two others at the side, along Calle del Violín and via Avenida Carlota Alessandri.

The park has a coffee shop and benches where you can rest, and during the summer children’s entertainment events are held, with storytelling, acting, music, magic, competitions and other activities.

Things to do in the park and in the area around

Open to the public from 9.00 a.m. until 10.00 p.m. in the summer, the Parque de la Batería is an ideal space for exercising, strolling or just relaxing in one of Torremolinos’ loveliest settings. There is for example an extensive network of walking trails with cobbled paths and various decorative elements. There are, in addition, five exercise areas (graded to suit users’ level of fitness) that all visitors can use for physical exercise while they enjoy the natural surroundings.

Almost everyone wants to go for a trip on a sailing boat on the Parque de la Batería’s central lake. You can also cycle or skate along the cycle path, stopping to exercise in the designated areas. In winter, the park is open from 9.00 a.m. until 8.00 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
