Things to do in Dubai with kids: the Burj Khalifa
Show me the child that won’t be impressed when you tell them you’re going to take a lift to the top of the world’s tallest tower.
When it comes to indoor activities in Dubai, this is a fantastic option. Just be warned that you’ll need to book your tickets in advance, as they’re far cheaper. A lift will whiz you up to the 124th and 125th floors.
If you want to see the views at sunrise or sunset, when they’re particularly spectacular, then you’ll need to be on the ball, and expect lots of queues. I know that can be tough with kids, but not to worry, it’ll all be worth it for the views.
Places to visit in Dubai for kids: Dubai Mall
You won’t have to go far to tick off the next item on the list, as the Dubai Mall is right next to the Burj Khalifa.
If you’re looking for free family activities in Dubai, then this is for you. Going to a shopping centre might not sound like your idea of fun normally, but Dubai does things differently. For starters, there’s an amazing waterfall inside the mall, and a dancing water fountain outside which puts on a show every half an hour.
Kids will love browsing the giant Hamleys, but if you did want to fork out for any paid activities there’s also an aquarium and Olympics-sized ice rink here. If you pay to go up the Burj Khalifa, you can get a deal on combined tickets for some of the activities in the mall.
Indoor activities for kids in Dubai: IMG Worlds of Adventure
Whilst we’re on the subject of the best indoor activities in Dubai, we had to mention IMG Worlds of Adventure.
After all, if there’s one thing Dubai is for sure, it’s hot, so you’ll need to plan to spend plenty of time indoors if you’re planning to visit Dubai with kids, especially if you’re going in summer.
This isn’t something to factor in if you’re looking for things to do with toddlers in Dubai, but is more of an activity for older kids and thrill-seeking parents.
It’s divided into four zones, Cartoon Network, Marvel, IMG Boulevard and Lost World, so you can happily while away a whole day here.
Family activities in Dubai: Global Village
This permanent global showcase is like a giant funfair, with pavilions representing over 70 countries, giving you an insight into their culture and food. There’s a huge number of carnival rides in the centre.
Whereas you might be looking for your thrills indoors in summer, this is the perfect option for winter as it’s open November-April.
Ultimate kids entertainment: Dubai Parks and Resorts
You have to travel a little way to get out here, but it’s worth it. It’s a paradise, whatever your age.
There are three separate theme parks, Legoland, Dubai Bollywood and Motiongate, a Legoland water park and the Lapita Resort, which is Polynesian themed. Immerse yourselves in a whole universe of family fun.
Things to do with children in Dubai: hit the beach
Dubai is a dream for families, because alongside all the incredible man-made attractions, it’s also an incredible beach destination. There’s sunset beach, with views of the Burj Al Arab, The Beach at JBR with plenty of activities for kids and Kite Beach for watersports.
Just make sure you check before you go, as some beaches have ladies-only days, and there are different norms regarding how much skin you’re allowed to show.
Top things to do with kids in Dubai: explore the desert
Just as you can’t come to Dubai without going to the beach, you can’t leave without seeing the desert for yourself, either.
This is one of the best things to do with kids in Dubai for adventurous families who want an insight into what this area looked like before the skyscrapers were built.
Take a tour out to the Dubai Conservation Reserve, and then choose between camel riding, sand boarding, quad biking and dune bashing. There’s normally dinner and a spectacular show involved.
