    “Ixtapa stay”

    Good for dollar value. Beach is amazing. Not too many vendors on the beach. Would have travelled a little bit later specifically right after all the kids should go back to school. We went to ixtapa island and that was amazing as well. Would definitely go back to Ixtapa.

    “Another great vacation at the Barcelo.”

    My Fiance' and I stayed at the Barcelo from Nov 27 to Dec 9th. This is the 4th or 5th time at the Barcelo and they continue to impress me. The food is good with a wide variety accessible numerous hours of the day. The room (7th floor) was perfect for views of the property and the beach. The air conditioner worked very well and we fell in love with the pillows in the room - we didn't spend much time in the room. The pool, specifically the swim-up bar was awesome. Ullyses was on top of making the perfect drinks and having them ready before we could swim up to the bar. The life guards (Michael being one of them) were on top of keeping the swim-up bar area free of children and limiting horse play around the bar area. We felt very safe walking around Ixtapa for shopping and off site eating. The area is very clean and the people were very friendly. If you are not into big crowds, plan your excursions on the weekends. This is the time the resort fills up with local vacationers. I have nothing bad to say about the Ixtapa Barcelo.

    “Los cuartos”

    The beds were too hard so everytime you slept on it your back would hurt the day after a nd then they didnt make the beds on one occasion even when we put the card on the door so they could clean but overall we like barcelo

    “Out of all my stays here this was the most disappointing one!”

    My disappointment began in arrival. I ended up having to pay way more than originally booked for. I am part of a loyalty programme and was not honored any of the benefits. I was given one room at 1pm and another past 3pm. Also reception tried to cheat me out of my gift certificate. The manager Sandra made a mistake and her employee Daniela tried to insinuate that I might have spent it already. At the end they realized they made a mistake and offered no apology. Thankfully the spa manager was very patient with me and helped thru the whole situation. I was finally able to book my spa appointments. I had such a great experience with Nancy that I made appointments for a my family members! Not sure I’ll return to the hotel.

    “Some good times and some bad”

    My wife and I stayed at the Barcelo Dec 14 -17 2017 and we good times and bad times. A bit about us to add some context. I am from the Midwest of the US and my wife is Mexican; we both speak English and Spanish, we live and work in Mexico. This was our first time in Ixtapa and our second stay at a Barcelo property; we previously stayed in San Jose Del Cabo. The hotel in Cabo defiantly catered to people from the US, Canada, and Europe; the hotel in Ixtapa defiantly catered to Mexicans. I did not speak any English with the hotel staff and I only heard English being spoken once or twice. All of the menus and signs were in English and Spanish. We had a premium ocean view room on the 12th floor which was nice. We very much enjoyed the premium lounge. They had a good selection of top shelf liquor, an area to sit, relax, eat, and excellent snacks. The snacks were excellent quality and perfect for the climate; allot of fruit, salads, and light sandwiches. The breakfast was really nice, all the components were served is small side dishes and kept warm. They also had an excellent selection of fruit, cold cuts, and an expresso machine. The premium lounge was smaller than in Cabo but it was a little nicer. My 1-5 ratings, 5 being the best Hotel - 3, old but nice Overall cleanliness - 4 Service - 3, It was either great or horrible Food - 2 Room - 3, I do not believe housekeeping ever moped the floor Pools - 3, the adults only pool was not enforced very well Beach - 5 Summary: We will definitely return to Ixtapa but we will try a different hotel. The best thing about the hotel was the beach and many hotels share the same beach. Day 1: We arrived around 1:00 pm after a 5 hour drive from our home in central Mexico. The staff was very friendly an professional. As we arrived early, our room was not immediately ready but was ready within a 1/2 an hour. The hotel was very clean but is older and is defiantly showing its age. We had lunch at the buffet restaurant La Palapa; the service was good and the food was ok. After lunch we went to the beach and it is beautiful! The water temperature was perfect, the beach is clean, and the sand is very fine so there is no problem walking on the beach bare foot. My wife lost her prescription sun glasses when a wave larger than expected hit her. We then left the beach and went to the pool. A few minutes later one of the guys selling parasail rides asked us if he found her glasses would we pay him $1,000 MXN; I said yes. About an hour later he came back with a nice selection of prescription glasses to choose from; my wife's glasses included. This was a win for everyone, he made some extra money and my wife was able to continue to enjoy and see our vacation. We spent much of the rest of our day in the pool enjoying some drinks and the perfect weather. This was our anniversary so I wanted to take my wife someplace really nice. The staff recommended El Faro and made reservations for us. There are two ways to get there, drive or walk along the beach for about 150 meters and take a gondola up to the restaurant; we took the gondola. The restaurant is in the side of a cliff with a beautiful view. We did not order off the menu and had coconut shrimp and lobster Thermidor; the shrimp was the best I have ever had and the lobster was not good. The restaurant was very beautiful and the service was good. Day 2 We were awoken at 7:30 by a phone call asking us if we had towels on our balcony, not the best way to start the day. We had breakfast at the main restaurant. The service was ok and the food was just ok. After breakfast we walked along the beach. The beach is really beautiful and extremely clean. We sent most of the rest of the day in the pool just relaxing. We ate lunch at the snack bar. My wife had ceviche and shrimp. Both were very good but the shrimp was very spicy. We made reservations for the Italian restaurant for dinner. When we returned to our room to get ready for dinner there was a note asking us to call because there was a problem with our reservation. When I called they told us the restaurant was closed and we would have to eat sushi. After explaining that we do not like sushi we were told we could eat at the buffet. After further conversation, we were told that the chef would prepare some Italian food for us but we had to eat in the buffet restaurant. We elected to eat the food being served in the buffet; it was Mexican food and it was not good, not good at all. Day 3 Day 3 was uneventful. We just relaxed on the beach and the pool. We did eat dinner in the Italian restaurant and the food was excellent. Really it was the only good meal we had during our stay. Day 4 Check-out was very courteous and efficient. I hope this helps.
