There was a ton of confusion and we were supposed to be on the 10th floor, however there weren't any room so we got ... Rating: 2

    “Outstanding Service, Very Good Common Areas, Rooms - Tired”

    Please note my "very good" overall rating. This resort is showing its age, especially in the rooms, so if you are looking for "luxury" this is not the place for you. However, in my opinion the outstanding service of everyone we came in contact with combined with the functionality and good condition of the common areas more than made up for the "tired" rooms. Think, cruise ship, as you come here for the weather, beach, pools and to relax - not to hang out in your room. Food quality and service at the Don Quixote and Snack Bar restaurants are very good. The two buffet style restaurants are fine for breakfast and lunch, but only average for dinner. Spa treatments were very good and at a bargain price. Internet connection was terrible, but after a day of withdrawal I actually found a blessing in disguise. We will definitely return next year.

    “Great Family Vacation”

    We were at Barcelo Ixtapa over the Christmas Holidays. There was a big group of us together on a family trip. I am going to break up this review into sections to make it easier to follow. Dining: Although there were not many great options for food at the indoor lunch and dinner buffet, the outdoor buffet made up for it during lunch time. There was fresh fish on a daily basis, BBQ'd to perfection. For the A La Carte's ... the outdoor dinner was our absolute favourite. This was a buffet style dinner, where you can eat all you can eat lobster, shrimp, steak, huge salad bar and dessert bar. There were many types of steak ... from flank, T-Bone, Sirloin and more. All of the food was prepared really well .. and fresh .. right before your eyes! They also offered other things like rice, pasta, etc. BEACH: My husband and I usually enjoy the white sand beaches with crystal blue waters ... however this beach was spectacular to our surprise. The sand was brown, but shimmery and soft, and the beach was warm, the waves were super pleasant and the water was clear. We even were able to take in our baby daughter in a floatie .. and she was only 3 months old!! The waves were high at times, and so we would just end up at the pool ... which was great. In the evening, the beach is crowded with locals who were swimming, playing soccer, and just having a blast. It was a great experience. POOL: This pool was fantastic!! Great ocean view from the pool, and the pool bar was always busy but we never waited long for our drinks. There were two pools, which we used equally. ROOM: The room was not anything fancy, but it was spacious and always well kept. The bed was comfortable and the cleaning ladies were super nice to speak to. Also, I needed lots of water on that trip for my daughter who was taking formula, and the staff was never hesitant to give me extra bottles. I recommend this hotel for families who are looking for a fun-filled vacation with an infant. Ixtapa is definitely a place we'd love to come back to, as it is so different than Cancun because there are less tourists and more locals at the resorts. Thank you for an amazing time :)

    “Trip number 11, Ixtapa 2017”

    We arrive in Ixtapa in 60 days for the month of March 2017 for the 10th time, and for all those times we never had anything to complain about, Here are a few suggestions, do not come a week before Easter to a week after Easter, Mexico shuts down at this time and the hotel is at 100% capacity. Arrive with Mexican Peso's in your pocket, when the Bellboys grab your luggage don't panic they are really trying to help you these guys are among the hardest workers in the hotel. Everyone in the hotel try their best to ensure your stay is pleasant, TIPPING: For Canadians and Americans leave your Change at home Loonies and Toonies (Canada) are of no value to them, as are quarters, dimes ect. The town of Ixtapa is very safe, the shops are clean and friendly and within walking distance from the hotel, there are no bad restaurants in the town. But you have to go to Franks for his Amazing Shrimp, if you do, order the main course after you eat this. For the 1st timers Mexican night in the hotel is a must do Just don't sit next to the stage. So my wife Jackie and I hope to see some of you in March, I'll be the old guy in the black cowboy hat.

    “Great vacation at the Barcelo Ixtapa resort”

    We spent a week at this hotel with our two teenagers from Dec 27 to Jan 3 2017. Although we were a little disappointed initially by the overall look of the hotel, it turned out to be a very pleasant stay. The common spaces of the hotel, such as the main restaurant,the lobby, the hallways are old and need major renovations. This is however compensated by the fact that the site is clean and well maintained. We booked two premium rooms on the 11 floor. They were spacious and had been somewhat refreshed with relatively modern equipment in the bathrooms, however these were dark as they did not have sufficient lighting. The food was correct, not very diversified at the main buffet, but there was a different piece of meat every night that was delicious. The sushi restaurant should be avoided. We ate twice at the "Don Quijote" restaurant. The food was interesting the first time, while the second time our fish was way overcooked and the service rushed. The New Year's eve banquet was outstanding and the chefs really went out of their ways to offer a variety of delicious dishes that was different from the everyday menu.The presentation was also spectacular with ice sulptures and flowers in the pool as the dinner took place ouside. Overall the whole evening was memorable considering the quality of food, the entertainment, the fireworks and so on. Positive points: All staff is very nice and is trying to satisfy the clients. The service is really good. Our toilet got blocked and was fixed quickly. The pool area is very nice with several pools for all ages. The breakfast is served until 11:30, so there is no need to rush out of bed to catch it.The Palapa restaurant located near the beach is very pleasant. The beach (water and sand) is beautiful and clean. Negative points: The hotel was full and there was not enough chairs around the pool and at the beach for everybody. People reserve their chairs and don't show up for hours, so you have to be willing to get up at 7:00 in the morning to grab one. There is no umbrellas at the beach. The Wi-fi did not work. Despite our premium status, I have been able to connect to the wi-fi only once during the week for about 8 minutes... The elevators did not always worked well.

    “Dec 28 2016 to Jan 5 2017”

    Trip advisor note: we only stay at Barcelo resort while on vacations because of their high standards. This review is not kind and only day one. Place: Ixtapa Barcelo Our trip: Having had this planned for months, we upgraded to the highest level we could get...the gubernatorial suite. Day one: Arriving at the hotel, we head to,the premium check in. In EVERY other Barcelo we have been in , this is normally a good experience. Not here. There is one person to do the check in and her efforts to get up through this experience was horribly delayed by her answering the constant phone calls. Now we are not the only ones waiting to be processed so if first impressions of a great resort chain are now imbedded in those trying to check in. Eventually some so called guest manager assisted but far to late, damage done and that persons customer service priorities have gone far astray. Our room: Clearly this is an old hotel. The windows on the outside were filthy thus spoiling the ocean view. (I had to request these to be cleaned). There is one ocean view window that opens up, when you do, all the AC is drained from the room until closed. Powered blinds was about the only fun thing in here. The balcony area was used to enlarge the room. This heavily tiled floor was taken up by a jacuzzi bathtub...the room to me looked just cold. The bathroom area consisted of a shower, commode and a closet...again not to present day Barcelo standards. The bed was king sized flanked by a bathtub. Tacky. The rest of the room was a large wasted space furnished spartan. There was a matching desk, table just not a homey atmosphere to enjoy the 44" tv that you get at any other Barcelo. First impressions: Sad. Really, we were. More wrongs than right. This is not what you expect from a respected chain...sad. Food: Good luck. There is extremely limited choices at this resort...a fleet of taco trucks in the parking lot would only add welcome variety. We like variety and this Barcelo has either a steak house or a sushi place...sushi? Really? That's it other than buffet. The impression I get is that they don't want you to eat here, opposite to what all inclusive implies. We just did one where there were loads of sweets and vegetables, simple spaghetti, mashed potatoes and stuff just not as expected...the meat was not prime rib but a tray of hot dogs or some small taco thing. To act as a plan B, I do plan tomorrow to check out the neighbouring hotels as this is might be the best option for dinners. Bar service: I had to go and flag a server to get service. Bar drink menu is severely limited...seriously. Clearly Barcelo has let this one go...that or the quality assurance team are not on the ball. This report is only after us being here less than 6hours. We at this review are still here and hoping this once grand chain improves. Ps/ still can't see clearly out of any of the windows.

    Please note my "very good" overall rating. This resort is showing its age, especially in the rooms, so if you are looking for "luxury" this is not the place for you. First impressions: Sad. Really, we were. More wrongs than right. This is not what you expect from a respected chain...sad. Food: Good luck. There is extremely limited choices at this resort...a fleet of taco trucks in the parking lot would only add welcome variety. We like variety and this Barcelo has either a steak house or a sushi place...sushi? Really? That's it other than buffet. The impression I get is that they don't want you to eat here, opposite to what all inclusive implies. We just did one where there were loads of sweets and vegetables, simple spaghetti, mashed potatoes and stuff just not as expected...the meat was not prime rib but a tray of hot dogs or some small taco thing. To act as a plan B, I do plan tomorrow to check out the neighbouring hotels as this is might be the best option for dinners. Bar service: I had to go and flag a server to get service. Bar drink menu is severely limited...seriously. Clearly Barcelo has let this one go...that or the quality assurance team are not on the ball. This report is only after us being here less than 6hours. We at this review are still here and hoping this once grand chain improves. Ps/ still can't see clearly out of any of the windows.
