“somethings great some not so much”

First of all the hotel is beautiful, one of the nicest. The staff there are over all pretty good but we did run into some issues...first being there for 2 weeks was long and I think after abit there seem to be some staff that ignored us maybe they were just sick of us? but it go annoying...considering we were tipping! there were a few in the restuarants that were more than friendly wish I remembered their names. The front desk was a issue as I went there 6 7 times to change my pesos to smaller amounts and was told come back not yet come back and so on, till the last time we waited in line for over a 45 min checking in one person?? with cash in hand to be told in one second when we got to desk no cash available, why wouldnt they look at us and say dont wait no money available? very annoying. DONT let anyone talk you into the SHOPPING tour...it was 35 US each and all they do is take you to town for 45 min....no time to shop at all.... total ripoff ....take a cab and spend 150 pesos and stay for the afternoon. if you are expecting a beach at this hotel it is not the place for you if you like just a pool it is great. They really need to deal with the bridge at the break water, staring at that rusty thing for 2 weeks was not great, If they cant get rid of it at least paint it, its a terrrible sight. Also they have a disco each night at 11 pm but they show at the theater finishes at 10, so there is a lul in between and some of us older people just peter out waiting, they should have it start right at 10 pm. Food in all was very good with a good variety

    “Another day in Paradise”

Cozy and small resort, clean, well organized, well trained professional staff. We are family of 5, with grandparents and a young boy. Everyone found their own activities to enjoy, especially my 6 years old boy. He had so much fun at the kids club, and kept winning prizes from different games. Food was good, with great varieties of drinks. All the staff worked hard with smiling faces all the time. The Animacion Group leaded by Christian brought us so much fun. Gerardo and Carolina always worked with their hearts. Definately will go back again.

“Lovely resort, premium upgrade well worth the additional cost”

We recently did a full week at the Karmina, in a Junior Deluxe room with the Premium Upgrade package. 3 adults in one room, 2 adults in the other. I can honestly say that the incredible photos you see on the Barcelo website are an accurate representation of the resort. I was shocked at how beautiful everything was. Rooms: Fabulous. The bathroom was spa-like, although it was a bit strange to have shutter-style doors, which meant that anyone out in the room could hear what was going on in the bathroom. Which isn't a major issue, except when there are gastrointestinal issues...which I'll get to. We had one room with two double beds and one with a king. The couches in both rooms were not very comfortable to sit on, unfortunately. It seemed like the cushions were all too small for the couch, so that when you sat down, you sort of sunk in, uncomfortably. Not that we spent a lot of time in the rooms, but when we wanted to watch some tv or play cards, we had to shuffle things around a bit. The beds were very comfortable, and once again, having the deluxe room and premium upgrade made a big difference - we were able to order additional/different pillows. I've NEVER had that sort of service or experience at a resort. It was amazing. Room Service: included with our upgrades. It was very quick and staff were very friendly. Of course, we were always tipping on the value given on the room service menu, so that might have helped :) My husband ordered a special breakfast for us on Valentine's Day and I could not have been more impressed. He said that everyone who helped him put it together was so helpful and just made sure it was a lovely morning. There were heart-shaped balloons and cookies, along with the tea and orange juice, and full meal. They were more than willing to add items to the regular room service orders (we did pay extra for it, but it wasn't a lot, as I understand it). View: Amazing. We had a view of the ocean from the room, and the view of the grounds is incredible. Keep in mind that we were in the deluxe area, so I'm guessing the view isn't going to be quite as spectacular in all of the rooms. Pools: Chilly, but wonderful! These pools aren't heated, which I knew before we went. The weather was beautiful during out stay, so the fact that the pools aren't heated wasn't really an issue. There's a variety of different pools to choose from, with more than one being adult-only, which was nice. The grounds are so beautiful and the various flora (and fauna!) make it feel a little wilder than some other resorts I've been to (which I thought was excellent). There was an issue with beach chairs being "reserved" with towels, often for several hours (if we ever saw the people who had reserved them). It seemed really strange to me that someone would reserve a chair from the late morning into the late afternoon without ever actually using it. A la carte restaurants: We had the opportunity to dine at all of the a la carte restaurants. I would say that the Japanese (Kyoto) was actually my favourite. Our mealtimes were usually after 8:00, but we didn't mind. It's so easy to hit the buffet for a snack if you get hungry earlier in the evening. We tried a variety of the sushi options and hot dishes and each one was amazing. The tempura ice cream is one of the single greatest desserts I've ever eaten in my life. This is where, unfortunately, I had to take off a star, because I dined at Capri (Italian) twice, and ended up violently ill both times. We did one dinner and one lunch. I was sick for 8-10 hours each time. The other members in my party didn't end up violently sick the way I did, but everyone was having some gut issues after the meals. Maybe it's more to do with what we ordered. Agave, the Mexican restaurant, was very nice. I think the zucchini soup was one of the best things I ate the whole week, which is impressive considering how many amazing meals I had. Buffet: Bugambilias was amazing. There was always something new and interesting to try. Food was kept fresh and hot. Somehow, the buffet never seemed all that busy, which was very strange (but nice!) considering we were in Mexico during February. I did, unfortunately, get a bit of a bug one evening from the buffet as well. Maybe I was just a bit too adventurous with my food choices, but it definitely put a damper on things. Beach Snack Bar: The burgers and tacos were so awesome. It was great for snacks or for a light meal during the afternoon. Having the ice cream machine available as well was excellent. The service seemed a bit slower here, but we were never in any kind of hurry. And the service was always friendly, which, to me, is more important than things being quick. Premium Club: This was quite a nice bonus, I have to say. The food was good, and being able to make a coffee (there's a cappuccino machine) or a premium drink was great. We also used the concierge service a few times, and they were always very friendly and polite. The waiters and waitresses in the Premium Club were definitely the best of the best. We had great service all week, but Lourdes (my apologies on spelling) was a real treat. She always had a smile and was willing to help us out with whatever we needed. Bars: We paid for the premium upgrade so that we could get nicer drinks. The resort offers Grey Goose, Remy Martin, Havana Club, Patron, etc for premium liquors. However, on more than one occasion, the bars ran out of the premium liquors. There were times when Grey Goose was nowhere to be found. The beach bars tended not to have the higher-end spirits in stock. Maybe just because they're not as used to people requesting them outside of the lobby bar/premium lounge, I'm not sure. The overall atmosphere of the resort was very relaxed and friendly. There are a lot of local folks who do day passes or weekend trips, so it was nice not just to have the typical tourist crowd. There were a couple weddings while we were there, and they looked beautiful. But things never got all that rowdy, and it was just...so nice. It was the (almost) perfect, peaceful beach vacation that I wanted. I almost gave 5 stars, because despite how sick I got, I'm still planning on going back. I'll just need to be a bit more careful about what I eat the next time. A quick note on swimming in the bay: some of the fish bite! We didn't go very far out, and they weren't large fish, but I did have a few bites that bled a bit. If you're taking kids into the water, I'd suggest you stay to the right side of the little bay, where there aren't so many rocks. They've also got sea urchins, so be careful for those if you go out a little deeper.

We will certainly relay your praising comments to all of them and we are sure they will be pleased to know their efforts have been appreciated.
