“Great family resort and our wedding!”

We got married last week at Barcelo Huatulco and I can honestly say if you want to get married in Mexico and feel like you barely did anything to have the wedding of your dreams then you need to work with Moramay, our wedding planner! Moramay was absolutely amazing, she responded quickly to questions we had, allowed us to pick out what we wanted before heading to Mexico so when we arrived we could enjoy our vacation and not worry about anything, and she was there on the day to make everything run so smoothly. My husband and I can't say enough to people on how easy it was working with her. She even helped us coordinate a dress rehearsal with all of our guests! The hotel's decorations were so beautiful at the reception and ceremony, I'm so happy we didn't haul anything extra with us it didn't need it. Barcelo is wonderful for families, it's a smaller resort but it was great with our two kids ( pre teen and teen). We could see them pretty much anywhere in the pool area, beach buffet or the beach. We felt so comfortable with them there and there was tons of pool side activities that they barely stayed near us the entire time. The resort has tons of free non motorized things we could use for free, the kids fell in love with the boogie boards in the waves. It's a bit older of a resort but we still enjoyed it and our room was cleaned everyday with new towels. The only negative thing I can say was our check in was pretty chaotic when we first arrived with a few of our guests including our room wasn't ready when we arrived. However, we went and grabbed drinks and food and it was ready after that.

“Great value for the dollars spent”

Spent 7 days at the Barcelo in March 2019 The resort was fantastic. Our room was quiet and clean, nicely appointed with plenty of space. The beach was great - not at all crowded. The staff at the Barcelo were all friendly and responsive and took care of us well. The weather was +33'C every day, +26'C at night - no rain, day or night for the entire 7 days. Really couldn't find much to criticize. If I had to make an observation I would say that the booking system for the a' la carte restaurants was a bit time-consuming. They only opened it at 09:00 and there was often a very long line up 30 + people waiting with only one service rep looking after the bookings. You could spend 45 - 60 minutes waiting to book a seating. This was not a big deal to us as we always found the buffet to be a great option for our meals. Also, BYO drink straws as there are no straws to be found anywhere in Huatulco. The resort was probably 75% Canadians which afforded us the opportunity to meet some nice people from all over Canada. Wifi was great and was about $40 CDN for the seven days we were there. We didn't upgrade to the premium service level and I wouldn't recommend it. For about $135 / day US you didn't get much of anything. Only a private "lounge" which really was much of a lounge at all as all it was about the size of two hotel rooms in the back of the facility the furthest point you could be from the beach. It had a small snack bar and the same liquor that you could get at the other bars. Membership also entitled you a beach lounge in an "exclusive" area that was again, the furthest point you could be from any of the bars and restaurants. Lots to do off-site if you wanted to venture. Santa Cruz Bay was a 50 peso ($3.70 CDN) taxi ride away and the town of Crucecita was also a 50 peso 10-minute taxi ride from the Barcelo. Off-site communication was relatively easy with many of the local people knowing enough English to make figuring things out pretty easy. The golf course next to the Barcelo is closed & under repair as it was damaged a few months ago by some flooding. The flights with Sunwing were flawless and ground transportation (again with Sunwing) was excellent - air-conditioned coaches both to and from the airport which is about 25 minutes from the Barcelo.

    “Barcelo Huatulco”

Spent two weeks at the Barcelo. Weather was hot, not a drop of rain. The hotel was clean, the grounds immaculate, the staff very friendly. The rooms are fine but need some work. Some of the light fixtures and bathroom fixtures need to be replaced. Food at the buffet restaurants was good, with plenty of variety, although the food was often on the cool side. The a la carte restaurants were quite good but difficult to get into. Guests line up before 9:00 am to book a la carte restaurants for that day only. It appears they book the seafood & mexican restaurants to only half capacity while the italian restaurant gets fully booked. Dress code for men is enforced at the italian and mexican restaurants. Chairs under palapas at the beach were almost impossible to get. Chairs under the sun shades at the pool were more plentiful, but you had to be out with your towel before 8:00 am to get good ones. The sun shades are fabric strips woven over and under beams and have plenty of gaps between the strips so sun burn is still possible even under cover. The quality of the cocktails at the pool bar was inconsistent and conditions at the bar were not very sanitary at times. At peak times, used glasses were just rinsed out and reused. The lobby bar was a little better. Overall, Huatulco is quite beautiful and very clean. Safety was never an issue.

    “Relaxing Resort”

I returned from a week at this resort and have to say that overall it is a great place to vacation I was there for the wedding of my friends and the staff put on a terrific day for them. Throughout the week they were many opportunities to take excursions, to eat at the à la cart restaurants as well as daily at the buffet, take in the entertainment and rest and relax. The hotel itself was very clean, staff very helpful and the atmosphere very relaxing. The only glitch we had in the week was at check-in when the bride and groom who spearheaded a large group of people coming to the resort for the wedding had to wait over an hour to get access to their room. Other than that I was very pleased overall with my stay and would recommend this as a great vacation hotel.

    “Wonderful family vacation! Loved Hualtulco!”

We spent one week at the Barcelo Huatulco and truly enjoyed it. Visited with our four young children We spent one week at the Barcelo Huatulco with our four young children and a set of grandparents, and everyone had a great time. We booked the premium level rooms - and in our opinion it was well worth it. We had very nice, clean and modern rooms on the fourth floor over looking the pool and ocean. We had requested rooms beside each other and that’s exactly what we got! Check in at premium club was easy and loved having access to the premium lounge in general. Went there daily for coffee, premium drinks, snacks, and to chill in the air conditioning. Also appreciated the wifi included and ease to book a la carte restaurants. We tried the Italian, Mexican, and Seafood and all were good. Not to the same level as some great restaurants back at home, but a really good effort and nice level of customer service. Buffets also offered good food, lots of selection and everyone was always able to find something to eat that they enjoyed. Beach was lovely. Coarse sand, that definitely got too hot to walk on - but spent hours there each day playing in the waves and exploring down to the stretch in front of the Dreams resort to swim with a school of fishes at the shore. Ocean was never too rough to swim in during the week we were there so that was great! Lifeguards were also always out. Pool was very good. Spent most of the time in kids pool. Little ones loved the slides! Adult pool was always full and a bit too warm. The beach chair game was ridiculous, but it’s like this at almost every resort we’ve been too! Towels on all the chairs by 7am - so silly. Again though, the advantage with premium is there is a special section overlooking the beach that is reserved so we never had an issue finding a chair, and often many open ones. For us, this too made the upgrade to premium well worth it. We didn’t visit the kids club, but there was a neat playground, swings and a trampoline that looked fun for little ones. Entertainment was very good. They really put in a great effort! We went to four of the nightly shows and I can say it was some of the best shows that we’ve seen at all-inclusives. Weather is HOT! And sun is strong! Bring lots of sunscreen. No bugs to speak of, which I was worried about... brought loads of bug repellent but didn’t need it. We met Tony Lopez on the beach, wears the orange Bass fishing hat, and decided to book a private boat tour with him. It was really great! We had a different captain, Hector, who took us out for several hours. We saw dolphins, sea turtles, sting rays and then went snorkeling with his deck hand as he guided us pointing out fish, starfish etc. Very cool! Then we explored the different bays, including a gorgeous secluded beach and were the only ones on it, amazing! We also spent a morning in the town of La Crucecita. We went to Sunday morning mass at the church. Beautiful painted ceiling and murals, apparently the largest painted church in Latin America. Mass was in Spanish. Shopped at the markets in town - they had the usual inexpensive touristy souvenirs. All in all, our vacation and the Barcelo was everything that we expected it to be. Good value for what we paid and no major complaints. Only cons, if I had to be picky - there were many stairs, although they were very well marked with caution tape. This only was an issue for my mother in law who has mobility issues. But we made due. Also there were tiny mites of some kind on the dresser of our room, but not sure how that can really be battled in this type of destination. In fact, they sprayed all the rooms for bugs during our stay. That did help a bit, as we didn’t seem them after that. I have to recognize some of the employees for their wonderful service... Fernando C. was our beach server in the premium section everyday and was amazing! Rubisela D. was the hostess in the beach/pool restaurant and was so kind and friendly. Always had a table ready for us! Victor C. was our server several times in the main buffet and was great, very attentive! We would definitely return to the Barcelo and Hualtulco in general. It felt very safe, clean, and many friendly people. And lots of Canadians, lol! Travelled from Winnipeg with Sunwing.
