    “Never Again”

I booked this hotel through the Barcelo website, for a 7 night stay. I was travelling solo from the UK for the Ironman 70.3 event. The plan was to have some relaxing days before the race, but unfortunately this never happened due to the construction that was going on in the hotel grounds. On my arrival there were 5 separate areas of construction going on, mainly round the main larger pool. From 8am-6pm, there was a large amount of noise from the jackhammers, drills, grinders, etc., dust flying around. Down by the lower 2 pools, they turned the music up really loud to try to cover up the noise, so much so that i could not hear my music through my headphones. By the end of day 4, they started clearing away the areas they had been working on as to lay out more sunbeds due to the extra guests that were arriving for the Ironman event. At least the next few days were fairly quiet, they were just working on the pool bar area at this time. I stayed in the premium level, and during my check in the lady was chatting on the phone while checking me in. The room i was given was quite large with a sea view, the furniture was very outdated, and in need of replacement. Toiletries were supposed to be replaced daily, which they weren't, kept having to go to reception to ask for toilet roll and shower gel, minibar which was supposed to be restocked daily wasn't. I found the food in the restaurants to be very good, just not a great variety. Also they kept changing restaurants without notice, so you were unsure as to which one to go to. The service in the restaurants was shocking, with the waiting staff constantly ignoring me when trying to get my drink order for my meal. I ate once at the Mexican Al-a-carte, and found the food and ambience to be really poor, food much better in the normal restaurant. I felt conned, and let down by the hotel, everyone staying there should have been informed as to the construction that was going on, then it would have been down to the guests choice as to wether they stayed there or not. Had i been informed of the construction, i would have chosen a different hotel. The construction is currently ongoing, and if i come back to do the ironman event next year i will choose a different hotel.

    “Look elsewhere”

The lack of communication and customer service was overwhelming. The room reservation was botched and not corrected until day 3 of a 5 day / 4 night stay. I spent the bulk of my time trying to fix their mistake and it was a waste of time. When I asked for the WiFi code (in the premium lounge where it is offered) I almost had to prove I deserved the access. As a solo traveler I was often ignored in the restaurants and the food was average. As in most cases, there were some staff that were nice and helpful but overall this is not a place I would recommend.

    “Disappointed”

The overall experience was not good. I have never stayed in a hotel where I could not get clean towels for 2-3 days and was never able to get a box of Kleenex after only gave 3 sheets in the box. Had to ask for coffee and water also.

    “All inclusive stay in Cabo”

This was a nice resort however it's listed as a five star resort which is not accurate, I would maybe say it's a four star resort. Even if you upgrade to premium I still would not say it was a five star. Food choices were a bit lacking however there is always a restaurant open to eat at even late into the night and when those are closed you can always get room service. This resort was very close to town so there were lots of place within walking distance off of the resort if you wanted to shop or eat out it was very convenient. This resort had a lot of construction during out visit which could be a bit annoying for some of the guests but I look at it as they are making improvements which benefits everyone who stays there.

    “Barcelo grand faro, the truth”

Construction/Reno’s are far from over. Jackhammers going all day right next to pool. This is a WARNING to all about to come and I wish the resort was honest with dates construction was happening. We’re here with a party of 10 and we all have had enough with this on our vacation. We are here till November 16th. To top it off I phoned Sunwing to voice my concerns and the rep asked to speak to front desk. The man at front proceeded to tell rep he already upgraded our room, that is a LIE. I am in the same room I was checked into. The room with two double beds and my wife and I can’t even sleep together, wouldn’t call that an upgrade. If you’re used to any quality service as there is throughout Mexico you should stay away from this resort. The far side of pool is completely closed and so is the buffet on that side. I will post a thorough review when I get home.
