    “WORST Customer Service”

I can start by saying this is the WORST customer service I receive from a hotel. I probably receive better service in Motel 8 for $30 night. I had a problem with my safety box around 11:00 pm. Called from my room and press option ”0” and my call was answered to a call center, not the front desk (I don't really care who answers the call ) and I told them what is the problem with my safety box, they transfer me to the front desk where after the answer the call without giving you chance to talk they said ”Thank you for calling front desk please hold ” I waited 5 minutes and hang out, place my second call, the same thing, call answered by the call center, ask them to be transferred to front desk, at that time no one answer the call, after many rings calls were redirected to a music player, I did the same process for 5 more times, and finally I was able to talk to a person, explain him what was the problem and he said within 20 minutes at the most will be at my door to fix the problem. After waiting for 30 minutes call option ”0” the same thing happened, no one answer the call, that means I call them 10 times total. At my last call, I was able to talk to another person and explain the problem again telling him that already waited for 30 minutes and still have the problem. I mentioned I will leave a 1-star review due to the facts there is no one to answer the calls and fix the problem in a timely manner. After hearing that they said help will arrive in 10 minutes. And magically, help arrived at a minute 6th. It took the guy literally 20 seconds to open the save box my 3-year-old kid locked accidentally without us knowing the combination. Besides this whole experience let me tell you the food is below average. You can definitely get better food in a Taco Bell. If you want to have a decent meal you need to go to the specialty restaurants, depending on your package you might have only 3 restaurants for a free (like us) or you can do an upgrade of $25 per adult per day to enjoy a decent meal every day. People at the restaurant is rude, I think they are funny, I ask my server ”Can I ask you a question” and he replies ”if you have questions ask your doctor ” I never expected that from a person just met 2 minutes ago. It happened another incident I ask the barista at the ”Mariachi Restaurant” if he can make me a coffee with milk, and he was really rude telling me. ”Ask your server” I replied to that, ”I'm asking you because I don't have a server” I just walk in and I'm craving for a coffee with milk. If you ask me if I will come back, I will say definitely NO. I prefer to take my business to a place where really takes care for the customer.

    “Our last minute trip”

We were recently at Barcelo Maya Beach. Resort is extremly big, what we did not mind so we could walk off what we eat. Food was plenty, you could choose from different buffet restaurants. We were never hungry! Our room was beautiful with king size bed, close to adult only swimming pool and area. It was a dream room however I asked to move us because apparently the Hotel is expanding, building extra housing and construction was extended late hours, and we were next to it!Luckily the receptionist was ultra nice moved us right away. The room what we received had 2 beds but we did not mind it at all. It was clean and beautiful!Safe and Tv remote was not working however they were dealing with a problem right away! These were small occurrences what you could also found at other hotels too! We were not bothered as much because they were fix it promptly .Swimming pools were clean and in great shape.Beach is one of the best where we have been in Mexico ( talking about front of your Hotel) as you could go in to swim very deep as well stay in safe shallow area( safe for families ) We knew it is great to snorkel ( has reef ) so yes rocky...but that is how we saw turtles, rays, millions of tropical fish even eal. Only 2 things bothered me very much one people feeding turtles and fishes. Turtle was crazy extremly friendly begging for food. What is quite sad!!!It is not great to feed wildlife. Also I heard from my hubby one other snorkeler grabbed the turtle! It made me extra sad!! Also please apply reef friendly sun lotion ( local " Sol Maya" ) is one of my favorite. It is absorbing so well and working it is shields you from sunrays. Why reef friendly? Because that is how you help on the sea life..or use rush guard! The night entertainment was ok I saw way better before. But we were not interested as much so I should not make comment on this topic. In nutshell if this would it be my first trip to Mexico and choose this Hotel I would be SO happy. It is beautiful, extremely clean, hardworking people, they catered for your happiness!!We choose this Hotel because we love to snorkel and we were not disappointed. What I missed compared to other Mexican hotels ( no towel art, flowers in your room, no beach service but they were constantly collected our used cups on the beach, missed jungle a bit as the garden was extremly manicured😊These things were not important for us, we were very happy without it. However I think for fair review these should be mentioned.

    “Do not book this resort!”

Do not book this resort! This is a long post so bare with me. Worth the read though We just got back from our vacation at the barcelo maya grand resort. We booked with maya beach but you get access to 4 resorts. We booked 9 months in advanced through Expedia. On Expedia it has you select either 2 double beds or 1 king bed. We traveled with 8 people (4 couples) so we selected king beds for all 4 rooms. When we arrived to the resort the front desk told us they are unable to give us king beds for 3 of the 4 rooms. I said thats unacceptable because we booked 9 months in advanced and specified king beds. My husband asked to speak with the manager and the front desk lady ignored him. He then asked again and she finally got the manager. The manager and her discussed something in Spanish and then she tells us they all of a sudden have king beds available now for all of us but they need to clean rooms so it would be about 20 min. We went to the buffet to eat dinner and all of the food was cold. We figured because we arrived late and it was towards the end of the night. 45 min pass so we go to check on our rooms, still not ready. 2 hours pass and they are finally ready. So starting off with that was very frustrating to us after just traveling a total of 9 hours that day. The next morning the front desk calls our friends room who came with us at 7am demanding money for the transportation we took. I booked this in advanced and gave them a credit card over the phone but apparently they never charged it. Why would I give them my credit card info for them to not charge it? We go back to the buffet located at maya beach when it opens around 7am. The food was already ice cold. I stuck my hand under the heat lamps, to see they dont have any heat lamps, just lights. So the food was constantly cold and horrible quality. The good buffet is two resorts away which is about a 20-30 min walk. If you like to walk then this resort is definitely for you. Giving you access to 4 resorts is nice except you are walking miles and miles each day to get from A to B. We went to strikers the sports bar that evening that they have in the maya mall and all of the food was ice cold AGAIN. To bowl, play mini golf or pool you have to pay extra. Bowling was 15 bucks a person for 1 hour so 60 bucks for a group of 4 to bowl one game seems a bit ridiculous. Especially when we just paid thousands to come to the resort. The whole grand resort also does not accept cash. Its credit card only. So a little difficult when all we brought was cash. That night our other friends room was called at 10pm from front desk demanding money again. I go down there the next morning to talk with the Expedia rep Gaby and she was very helpful and was doing what she could to get it resolved. While we were there we booked ziplining with her. Our total was $534 and all I had on me was $512 at the time and she said it was no problem and Diana would be here tomorrow and I could come pay her the $22 difference. So next day we go ziplining and the tour was great. We did the adventura maya tour and got to swim in a cave and zipline. Sabino was our tour guide and was beyond amazing. So when we return from ziplining our phone is ringing again from front desk demanding money yet again. I told them gaby was looking into it and going to let us know. The next day I go and see Diana the other Expedia rep to see if she has heard anything from Gaby. She states we still owe them 22 bucks and we need to pay that before anything. Which is fine. All I had was 40 bucks and she tells me she doesnt have change. I told her the resort doesnt except cash so I have no way to get change. She then can all of a sudden make change for a 20 for us. So I give her $25 bucks and we owed $22. I told her she can keep the extra 3 dollars and she thanked us and put it in her purple envelope. So all is good and she is now unable to help us and sends us off to a different rep through barcelo vacionaires to help us. I dont remember his name but he was very rude to my husband and I and said we need to discuss with front desk. Later that evening Diana the Expedia rep calls our room yelling at me telling me I am a liar and I never paid her. I put the money back in my pocket and jipped her. Ok first of all we paid her 100% and even gave her 3 extra bucks that she thanked us for! So she only called to yell at me, Call me a liar and say I'm going to wake up with an evil conscious for this. My husband watched me pay her and they can even check their cameras because I would never not pay someone. So yet again 10pm rolls around and front desk is calling demanding money for transportation. My husband then walks down to speak to a manager because for one why are they calling at ridiculous hours. 10pm and 7am only demanding money, never once asked how our stay as been or anything. He speaks with Edwin who understands we are trying to work with Expedia to get it figured out and notes our account to not call us anymore. Also, we stayed in the tulum building and there is construction going on next door so we were waken up around 6:45am to jack hammering from the construction site. The most annoying part of this is our building was less than half full and we got there Monday evening at 6 and we were put on the side listening to construction when there was open rooms (alot) on the other side of the building. We tell Edwin this and he moves us rooms, but he would not give us keys to the new room and said one of their employees will come get our luggage and take us to the new room in 15 min. 1 hour later and he finally shows up. The next morning our friends are woken up by a huge pool of soapy water all over their floor. My sister slipped and could have hurt herself. So we go downstairs and tell them about it and they sent someone up to check it out. Not sure what the issue was but still waking up to your floor covered in water and your clothes soaking wet isnt acceptable. The buffet food was beyond disappointing. I could eat better quality at McDonalds and have a warmer meal. We stayed for 6 nights and at check in we received 3 restaurant tickets. Also not specified that you only get 3 for however long your there, and you have to make reservations before 3:30. The first 2 resorts are the same buffets which makes no sense, and the next resorts have the same buffet. Capri was the first restaurant we ate at which was Italian. the food was amazing so we were finally happy with something at the resort. After 8pm all the pools are closed and the resort is a ghost town. Also in the evening time it cooled down and we were looking for a hot tub to enjoy in the evening. Low and behold what do you know. No hot tubs unless it's on your balcony, (suites) for the upgrade was a 150 extra a night. They have shows in the theatre starting at 9:30 so we decided to check that out. The show was something you would see at a middle school talent show. It was awful and not entertaining what so ever. So at this point we are annoyed because this doesnt feel like vacation to us. We spent half our afternoons dealing with their Expedia reps so barely got to enjoy the pools. The time we did spend at the pools was maybe a 2 star. We asked for a vodka cranberry (very basic drink) they gave us vodka and grenadine. There was no music at any pools and they ran out of towels so we never got towels 2 days straight. Jameson cost extra money and so did other certain liquors. Our last day we decide to just pay the transportation because they have yet to figure it out and we were over it. The jaguar club was pretty busy Friday night but they did not staff correctly because there were 2 bartenders and about 100 people at the bar trying to get drinks. So people were leaning over filling their own beers. The positives with the resort were the resturants and the resort was very well kept. The grounds were beautiful. Tokyo the Japanese restaurant was by far our favorite. Capri was great for Italian and the mexican lindo restaurant was mediocre quality to us. There was a huge language barrier with us and the staff. We are from California so speak english and we asked for cranberry, we got grenadine. We asked where one of the resturants were and we were told by one of the employees no English. So no help We asked one of the employees in the mall if they sold a charger we needed she shows us go pros. You would think traveling to a destination resort there wouldn't be as big of a language barrier than there was. so it was difficult getting drink orders correct or directions since the resort was so massive. All in all I would never recomend this resort to friends or family and our stay was beyond disappointing. We were excited to come home and this felt more like work and frustration than a vacation.
