    “Beautiful Resort”

We stayed at Maya Beach resort, I believe That its decor is not as good as the other resorts. Although it’s a beautiful hotel I’ve stayed at better hotels in Turkey, Jamaica and Barbados. Please book your trips before you go to Mexico via trip advisor it’s £60 cheaper luxury coach with toilets. The guide was good he explained the history well. For your safety it is better to go on the guided tours. We never saw much of Mexico as we was always on motorway. The standard rooms are long and narrow, beds are comfortable, bathroom was small. To book in this hotel you have no control and I like to plan and I found it irritating that I could not know before hand which hotel I would staying at; this caused us some problems when we arrived. The security sent us to the wrong resort. TV some of the channels are meant to be in English we found it difficult to find English speaking Channels. Food was edible again nothing to write about, we was fine until the last couple of days of our holiday we all had tummy bugs. Granddaughter age 6 was the worst. We went to several of the restaurants, we was late for one Kyoto it was meant to have a show we was not 15 mins late and we was penalised and sat at a table that we could not see the show, now this was one of the reasons for us choosing this hotel. I was so angry! But God sent an angel to serve us, the food was Divine and the service was excellent. The food at Captain Morgan was great burgers. Chips, sausages and pizza. Drinks (rum) was fantastic at first but by the end of the holiday they had been watered down. Markets is not only the eight stalls at the front there must be another 20 shops and market stalls. Markets at the hotel was cheaper than where we went on our trip to Chichen, Cenote this is the only time you need cash all the shops, restaurants , spa gets charged to your room in Pesos. For an all inclusive I spent an extra 5,000 pesos. All inclusive you have to pay to have internet $47 for 7 days. Bottle of wine you have to pay 325 - 700 peso. Surf and Waterpark was extra $20 for the day they have only one xXs life jacket for the kids. I enjoyed the aqua aerobic as for the timetable when this was happening I could not tell you To see the dolphin perform everyday at 11:40 We missed all the entertainment as we could not get early meals we booked 1/2 hour after we arrived, and the only time that we go there to see the entertainment it was Karaoke night in Spanish only. The staff was lovely until the last day, my daughter’s firm had requested a late check out, they said they had no request but we received confirmation from BA holidays that the requested had been done. They said that We could not have a late check out! This spoilt a good holiday. The buses that take you to and from each resort takes too long it’s quicker to walk. There are short cuts through the hotels. If you need to weigh your bags at the hotel you need $2 per bag. I loved the resort the staff was very friendly and helpful, the desserts and bakery was very good, they need to watch the temperature of the food out on display as I believe this is what had caused the nausea and sickness, it’s a clean hotel. Mexico Cancun I felt was no different from other places that I have seen in Europe, the age of some of the building and the style of the building I could have been in Malta or Spain.

    “Wonderful stay!”

This was our third time staying at the Barcelo property in Puerto Aventuras, but our first time staying at the Beach (previously we'd stayed at the Tropical and the Palace). We had the premium level package which included an oceanfront room which included a very spacious balcony with a jetted tub on it. I would definitely recommend one of these rooms for families as we were able to keep our large stroller, larger suitcases all on the balcony so as to not clutter our room and with no problems. And the kids loved the huge jetted tub for bathtime!. The only downside to our room was that you had to walk quite a ways to get to the elevator to get to the ground floor (the stairs are close but we had a stroller with two toddlers in tow). The guests can eat at several onsite restaurants and as many reviewers have poitned out the menu does start to feel repetetive. But to food is by no means bad - kind of what one might expect for a huge resort. The pools are all very nice and options include several kiddie pools/splash areas which I think no equal among any other hotels in the Maya Riviera. We'll definitely be back.

    “The staff made it amaZing!”

I have been to Mexico twice a year since 2010, so I have quite a bit of experience with "all inclusive" resorts there. Barcelo is the name of parent company that has many resorts around the globe. The Barcelo Maya beach (now called grand) is one of a group of five resorts side by side. This gives most people access to four of the five resorts (except the Palace resort). This can be a plus for someone like me who travels alone and wants to meet lots of new people, or gets bored with the same pool every day. The complex definitely caters to family's, as there were several smaller water play structures and a very large one in the middle which kept the little ones away from the pool bars. As with most resorts the grounds are well groomed every day by hard working staff, with some very picture worthy spots. The room I had was well maintained, everything worked, the mini bar was restocked everyday. Maid service was reliable, although I found it strange that after I used a face cloth it wasn't replaced, so I had none in my room after a few days. The beach itself is stunning, with plenty of reef areas to find fish for snorkelling. The fish in the area obviously learned to stick around to be fed, as they come basically swarm you if you have bread or food lol. (traveller pro tip: don't stick your fingers in the water if you do this they think its food and will chomp on it. it doesnt hurt, just will scare you when you don't expect it lol) I didn't try any of the Al la carte restaurants, but used the buffet mostly. This is where I down grade my score a bit. I understand people have varied tastes and resorts will always struggle with such a "subjective" topic when it comes to user reviews regarding food. I will just say I have a lot of experience when it comes to resorts. The selection was not as comprehensive as many other places I've stayed, it was decent, but I found it to be less selection than what I was used to, as well there were certain things that were hit and miss when it came to taste. That being said I'm not a big eater anyway, so it didn't affect me as much as it might other travellers. Here where this resort shines; the staff. Alberto at the strikers sports bar Roman at the pool bar and especially Gustavo at the pool bar! you gentlemen made my week fun and enjoyable! Excellent service, hard working and fun staff like these few I mentioned but all the service staff at the pool bar and entertainment staff at the pools were great!

    “Looks good on the outside...”

I wouldn't recommend staying here, unless you're willing to spring for the most expensive suites and rooms. Major bullet points: -The food is awful and is as bad as my college dining hall's was back in 1999. I was in a wedding here, and let's just say, the buffet food was better than the wedding dinner. It was TERRIBLE at best (or should I say, worst).-Drinks are watered down and too sweet. I didn't feel a buzz until I started pounding a Jamaican rum which had clearly been untouched. The best margarita I had all weekend was at the airport on my way home!-Towels are old and have been washed thousands of times; no washcloths provided unless you call for them. The ones I received were barely usable and had holes in them. They were so threadbare that they nearly scratched the surface of my skin! (imagine that on a sunburned body!)- Some staff are nice, others, quite rude. Most speak little English.- The check-in process is long and confusing; you might even get switched to a different part of the hotel like I did! I was immediately disappointed.-Housekeeping starts cleaning and moving furniture around as early as 7 am, so don't expect to sleep late or rest here unless you want to nap on a hammock. - Even at check-out, the staff member was rude! Some positives:-The best part of this resort is its pool area- beautiful, large, plenty of space to swim. -Most of the bartenders and wait staff were kind and courteous, so I appreciated their efforts to improve the guest experience. -If you stay in a swim-up suite, expect to have more luxurious accommodations.

    “Excellent Resort”

We came to Barcelo Maya Resort for a destination wedding and the experience was wonderful. The views are picture perfect, the resort was exceptionally clean and well taken care of and everyone who worked there was more than helpful and hospitable. We would definitely recommend this resort and would love to return in the future.
