    “Lacking Service / Amazing beach”

I will start with our arrival. I had purchased the upgrade to the First Club and Oceanfront room with a Honeymoon package. The Honeymoon package consisted of a sparkling wine and fruit plate in out room at arrival. When we arrived in our room 26224, it was the best, 2nd floor, overlooking the beach and could not have been any closer to the ocean, but we walked in an seen 2 double beds and no honeymoon fruit plate. We stayed in the room because we could not find a better view and the plate showed up 2 days later after calling twice for it.. Food: not impressed, the buffet was the same items everyday except a couple of items. This got old quickly. Make sure you book the a la carte restaurants as soon as you can. They were ok, but the best meal there was the Taco restaurant that was open from 6pm to 6am. Service: I had to call for a blanket - never received it. I also called for TV guide, that also never showed. Bars: The beach has a First Club bar and a Grand Bar, unless you have check in under one of those you can not use them. We had the First Club and the bartender Wilda? was the best and made great drinks with some top shelf alcohol. You will only find the top shelf alcohol at the lobby bar or the beach bar. Beach: Was amazing, it is like walking on flour. They have great loungers that elevate at the knee. There is a restaurant down the beach 25 min walk that is call Captain Cook, we went there for sea food, it was amazing. If you are looking at the beach, walk to the right. We were in the renovated side of the resort. The mini bar consists of 2 cokes, 2 sprites. Every other day we received 2 beers. Overall, it was a great trip, but I would not go back to the same resort due to the lack of service and food selection. Dont dwell on the negative and focus that you are on vacation.

“New renovations are beautiful.. unfortunately the staff wreck everything good about this hotel”

If you would like to know about the hotel itself, its beautiful. New, comfy beds, big beautiful rooms, lots of pools, bars, beautiful ocean, sand, lots of chairs, food ( im vegetarian so it was harder for me, this hotel did not have many options for me, mainly meat options ). One negative about the hotel was they were working on the pipe lines and didn't notify anyone so the entire week we had issues with water in the entire hotel. Couldn't flush the toilet or have a shower for half the day on two different days. As well as the public bathrooms need to be cleaned more, especially by the pool bar, I refused to go back it was so nasty. This review is solely on the horrific customer service my family and I received. From the second we checked in there was problems. Had to go back and forth about 4 times from the lobby to rooms, which is pretty far, then end up having to bring our suitcases out to another room. Everyday we were woken up by a maid barging in our room, no knock no nothing. This really bothered me as there is a cleaning sign you put when you want them to come in, if there is no sign of course they should not enter. Another morning woken up by banging on the door, it was people wanting to come in and spray our room, as we seen 2 baby cockroaches during our stay. Two different days we had to ask the maids to ensure to clean our room since they did not the 2 days prior. ALL the staff are just straight up LAZY and DONT CARE. It makes me so upset because there are people who are dying for jobs and who will take pride in what they do. No one wanted to help with any question or concern, would just tell you go ask this person, go look here etc. We had to go in a circle and ask 5 different people for a damn band-aid, I just got fed up and went and bought some from the little store inside the hotel. When I went to book the a la cartes, the guy just looked at me, no hello, how are you, nothing. He asked what do you want. I explained what I wanted to do and he straight up told me he was busy and had things to do that he will only do one for me. I had enough and told him no I came out of my way to come see you and I am here now so you will book all 5 for me since this is your job. He did do it for me, but not happily I can let you know that. Any drinks that were ordered were rushed and tasted awful, they just didn't care. To be honest I could go on and on, its just that the people really dont care at all, and it completely brings down this hotel. It is beautiful and has such potential with all new renovations, but all staff needs to be changed immediately.I travel every 3 months to Punta Cana, and had even previously been to Occidental before the reservations, and this by far was the worst customer service I have ever received. Please let me add I booked Preferred Club, and they still did NOTHING TO HELP. There is nothing additional I received that was listed in my package, besides having the pool towels already in my room. I was extremely angry about that, as I was promised many things when booking. I asked a staff member about the things I was promised, again just received the run around. The only great thing about this customer service is SANTOS!!! He is upstairs at the bar beside where they make pizzas, only at night though. He is beyond amazing and has become apart of our family as we have now spent two vacations with him. He is the highlight of everyones night and always ensures you are having a great time and laughing the night away- HE NEEDS A RAISE!! I would not return until I was sure the staff are working on a luxury level of customer service as they should be!

“A trip that was not what we bargained for”

My husband and I have five children and were extremely excited to finally have an opportunity to get away together. At first, the transportation company took us to the wrong Occidental. The transportation company wrote on our ticket that we were to go to Occidental Carribe, unbeknownst to us. We stood in line at Carribe for probably an hour to get told that we were in the wrong hotel, and we would need to pay for a taxi - cash only - to get to Occidental Punta Cana. We waited another 45 minutes for a taxi. He took us to the Occidental Punta Cana and the wait line for check in was another hour long. Upon check in, we got to our room exhausted. It was a pretty room, but very cold, we tried to adjust the thermostat and it was obliviously broken. We set our stuff down and went to make restaurant reservations for the week and they told us we would have to wait for the next day because it was too late. We then asked where there was wifi available since the website said it was available in certain places. Guest services told us, no, to gain access to wifi, it was $10 per device, per day. This was not listed anywhere on the website. We told them about the room being very cold. The next 24 hours we spent trying to explain to guest services and maintenance that the air conditioner would not stop running. They could not understand what we meant, no matter how we tried to explain it. They even asked me where we were from and maybe we just don't like the cold. We tried to explain that first, we came on vacation away from the cold, and two, this was an air conditioner that was running non stop, keeping the room at around 60F degrees. Finally they moved us to a new room. The room they moved us to was beautiful, and the air worked appropriately. We went to leave for breakfast the next day and they asked us if we were celebrating anything. My husband explained we were there for my birthday, and they offered a special breakfast for that. We went, only to find we were at a sales breakfast, they were trying to sell us the "quality" packages to be in the Vacation Club. We tried to decline politely and leave, only to have person after person come and ask us to stay a bit longer while they explained why we needed to buy this. We should've just been rude and walked away since we ended up losing 2 hours of our morning. When we got out, we missed making reservations for dinner again, because "it was too late, all restaurants were booked for the whole week, try tomorrow" I went to go for a run along the marked running path and was shouted out and escorted to the gym by security. They're doing construction, so the path is closed. The gym was nice, had everything that's needed. We finished working out and went back to the room to shower. The water was turned off. We called the front desk, who sent maintenance. When maintenance arrived, they told us the resorts were doing construction, so the water had to be shut off everyday. He told us to give it an hour or so. We can tell you, the water was shut off everyday. It was during the middle of the day when they majority of the people weren't in their rooms, but it would've been nice if they informed you of this so you could arrange your day around it. We did go to Santo Domingo on a tour - and this by far was the best part of the trip. We did use the spa and got the fish pedicure - fabulous, as well as massages - they did a good job. Our last day we went to go down to the beach and went for towels. They were out of towels. They said "Come back in 30 Dominican minutes" so we waited an hour to get a towel. The service at this hotel is subpar unless you have cash to slip into their hands. Everyone there is disinterested unless you show cash, then they're willing to help depending on how much you're willing to pay. If you have a problem, suddenly they don't seem to understand what your problem is. When you take the time to explain it, there is no concern, just "wait" and they'll get to it. We spent more time trying to get our room fixed and our reservations for dinner than we did enjoying ourselves. The food was good, not great. There was nothing there that was so good I felt the need to want it twice. To get our reservations in the end, we gave the person scheduling reservations money to get us in. We received a small bottle of alcohol as a "gift" with our massages. We did not open this and planned to bring it home. Someone opened and drank half of this bottle at some point. My husband and I aren't really drinkers and only had a drink with dinner each night, so we know neither of us actually drank this. Summary - We found the front desk staff/guest services had limited language capabilities which made everything difficult. You would expect the front desk staff to have the highest skill set with languages since they're checking everyone in and answering calls. Their overall willingness to resolve issues was poor. There was never an apology or concern. We had to pay to actually get into the restaurants. We had to pay per day for wifi to communicate with our children and my mother who was caring for them. The grounds/pools/beach were good, the pictures hold up to that much. My husband and I walked away feeling like we definitely lost money coming on this trip. We were shelling out extra cash left and right to meet the basic accommodations like eating and wifi and towels. We spent the first 36 hours in our room in sweats until they moved us and then had to rearrange when we would shower each day to have water. We were asked what we were celebrating only as a sales pitch, not because anyone actually wanted to do an "extra" or say happy birthday. All in all, a disappointment. I messaged my travel agent everything that happened, informed her that I would not recommend this hotel to other clients, nor would I be interested in returning here again. We finally got away for our first time in years, and if it were not for our desire to just enjoy each others company, we would have spent the entire time being stressed out about all the set backs. Thank goodness there was sun!
