Overall the resort is amazing would recommend to everyone. The staff is friendly and they keep the place very clean. Our room was nice with a beautiful view of the ocean. We did have a problem with the cooling of our room. We would have liked it a few degrees cool but could not get it to cool off. There was also a very strong sewer smell coming from our bathroom at different times trough out the day and night. The maid services was not that great for us. Some of our group had great maid service but we did not. I am not a regular coffee drinker, I like decaffeinated coffee. When we got in our room there was only regular coffee. Our friends had both regular and decaffeinated so they gave me their decaf. We asked a few of the maids that we would see in the hallway for decaf coffee and never got it. We even left the empty decaf package so maybe they would get the hint but it was always replaced with regular. The room was not cleaned the same everyday either some days would have beds turned down at night and towels picked up other times nothing. Food was amazing!! Only ate at the buffet but was never disappointed. They had a different theme every evening and it was great. The staff in the buffet areas were great, kept things very clean and the food was always plentiful. In the evening before and after dinner part of our group would meet on the steps right outside of the lobby bar. Our waitress Bibianna Gabriel was great. She was fast with our drinks and very friendly always smiling. Adult pool was nice. Wish it would of had a deep end and we could hardly hear the music as it was located by the children's pool. Would recommend them having music for the adults. Also to many children were allowed into the adult pool. Not small children but preteens and teenagers. We were in the adult pool for a reason so we did not have to be with children no matter how old they are. Overall the trip was wonderful and we would come back.

“Beautiful room & great service but food quality poor. We were both sick in bed for 2 1/2 days”

Beautiful grounds, helpful staff, beautiful rooms. However, speciality restaurants should be discontinued immediately, except for Mexican restaurant, until higher food quality is attained. Husband became ill after eating at Italian restaurant, and I became ill after eating at Spanish restaurant. Fine dining presentation of food but very poor quality of food. At Italian restaurant, appetizer with tuna and garlic topping may have been culprit. At Spanish restaurant, appetizer with anchovies and peppers as well as steak with blue cheese sauce may have been culprit for me. Even purified water can get contaminated. Serving room temperature water or almost lukewarm water should not be done, even if it is purified, bacteria can still increase. (We are in restaurant business ourselves) Barcelo should close their specialty restaurants immediately and concentrate on vastly improving their buffets, and expanding them for increased variety and fresh items. The best was the fresh pasta made to order, and the grill chef in the Tortuga grill area. We cancelled our reservations for our final nights and decided to eat at the buffet. Items such as mislabeling the vinegar (supposed to be apple cider vinegar) was actually olive oil with chili pepper. ALL bottles were mislabeled. Management should check this out. If such a basic lack of care exists then one must question what is going on in the kitchens.

    “First Time Vacation to Huatulco”

Jan 31/17 to Feb 7/17- Huatulco was everything we expected and more. Arriving at the resort and checking in was prompt and efficient. The staff were very friendly and accommodating for our entire stay. We were told prior to our vacation that Huatulco was very safe to explore off the resort as it was important to us to explore the beauty this area had to offer. The Barcelo was meticulously clean and well kept both indoors and the surrounding outside including the beach area. The staff were always available on the beach and pool area to provide any kind of drink requested. The beach area was beautifully maintained, no seaweed or jelly fish. The recreational staff were professional and assisted vacationers with instructions on kayaking and sailing the catamarans which were included in your stay. There does seem to be a shortage of sun cots however if you are an early riser and I mean when the sun is rising it is wise to reserve a lounger with your towels. The pool was of a smaller nature and the area always appeared crowded especially around the bar area. We spent our time on the beach as this is what we preferred. The weather was perfect, hot as expected with not one drop of rain. Sunscreen is a must starting at a 60. The waves were fun but don't under estimate their power as they will knock you off your feet. There was a wide variety of food choices at breakfast, lunch and dinner including many seafood and Mexican favourites. For all you coffee drinkers that don't drink your coffee black try it black and you won't go back! The coffee is amazing. For you tea drinkers I recommend you take your own tea as there is very limited choices of tea available. There is no wifi included but if you visit the coffee shop across the street there is free wifi available. Again very safe to go in the evening for a coffee or cold drink. A few must do's...visit and walk around the town of La Crucecita. It was 42 pesos set rate from the hotel into town. We met a local cab driver named Felix who speaks perfect English and is a wonderful tour guide. His number is 958-119-3910. Go for a tour of the Bays by boat. Amazing trip! We had an overnight flight delay and the Barcelo accommodated us re arriving at 1130pm. They had extra staff on the desk, food, coffee and drinks in the lobby for us. They couldn't have been more accommodating at this unexpected time. They really took care of us when we thought we would be sleeping at the airport. Can't wait to go back to the Barcelo!

“Special assistance was given with compassion and excellent service.”

Travelling with a disabled friend we requested several special needs. They supplied us with everything we required, but one item. The room was spacious and close to the elevator. It was very clean. The food was great. You could always find something you enjoyed. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. I look forward to return to Barcelo Huatulco.
