    “great vacation”

    Stayed for one week at the resort. Had some great food. Enjoyed the pool activities. Spent lots of time in the hot tub relaxing with the warm sunshine. The beach appears to go on forever. We had a room on the 2nd floor and each section has three elevators to get down to the ground level. Went up in the tower to get the view.

    “Dissappointed beware of this place”

    Hi Everyone, I am writing this review to warn you about this resort. Although in general I love the Barcelo Hotels, this hotel is unfortunately not up to par. We arrived on a Wednesday and had club premium and ocean view superior rooms. Our room was 1406. The room itself is actually very nice, the view is great. The beach in front of the hotel is actually very beautiful and expansive , with white sand. There is a big surf, and therefore you cannot swim, however none the less the beach is beautiful. The sky bar has a great view. So what is there to complain about?? The service really is a big disappointment. There is a lack of personal that services you in the pool, or restaurants, or anywhere to be frank. Check in under premium took over an hour. There were 8 of us in our group (4 rooms) , and to be frank none of us were happy. One night at the Mexican restaurant we all ordered food, but after 2 hours, none of us had received any food, not even an appetizer. No one had informed us it would take this long, and we missed the art walk (happens on Thursday nights). We ended up walking out (my first time ever in 50 years), and going to the buffet. . The service staff at the pool at quite slow, however I suspect they are way understaffed. When my wife asked one of the staff at activities if they could blow up a flotation pool lounger, they had no pump, and they blew it up willingly by mouth, we could have done that. The shower coming from the beach was broken most of the week. The coffee station was broken at the buffet by the beach. There were no seats in the ladies washrooms at the beach washrooms. One of our parties toilet kept breaking, and we were all premium. Our rooms air conditioning did not work for 2 days despite informing management. To me this is a poorly run business. I put the blame on management in not hiring enough staff. When communicating this with personal they said some staff had just quit, however they were unprepared to manage the clients they had. One day they took away our rooms robes and did not return them, and the front desk was never responsive to phone calls. The buffet food, was sub par compared to other Barcelo resorts we have gone too (13 times!!!!!). The staff try and bribe people to make good reviews by offering $100 off of a purchase in the gift shop (as they tried to do so with us), however we are not to be bought so I said I will write this as I see it. Beware of those good reviews. The staff in general here have really bad attitudes, there were a few good ones, but some were very grumpy, and just not the same experience that I would expect from Barcelo. My wife and I are very social-able and talked to many couples that experienced huge disappointment in this resort. I would definitely not come here again, I would hope Barcelo listens to our complaints and complaints of the many people we talked to or they will not be in business in San Jose del Cabo as people will avoid coming. I will also inform Air Canada Vacations of this experience so they are aware of this hotel. John and Rhonda Adkins

    “Way better than most all-inclusive resorts”

    In the interest of full disclosure I must say that I'm not a fan of all-inclusive resorts. We stayed here only one night as we were in transit and heading off the grid for a few days. However, we were impressed with the level of service and professionalism of the staff and the food was varied and good. Lots of healthy options, fresh fish and local flavor as well as some nice touches like champagne at breakfast (for you mimosa lovers). Our standard room was clean and we had a partial view of the ocean. Great location walking distance to the old town center.

    “Poor service ”

    I'm at the lobby lounge right now. There are 8 people in line trying to get a drink & only ONE bartender! This is a huge problem at this resort. The staff are friendly & try their best, but they are hugely understaffed. Same goes for servers at restaurants & bartenders at the pool. To make this a great resort, they would need to double the staff in those areas. Otherwise, this would be a fabulous resort. Also seems like there are too many "bosses" pushing that limited staff.

    “Great place. ”

    We visited the Barcelo in Feb of 2017 and after reading previous reviews was a little concerned. All I can say is we were not disappointed it was a beautiful place clean rooms, beautiful grounds and wonderful staff. The staff at the morning and noon buffet we great and gracious Salvador and Edwardo tried to keep us at their tables and if we weren't they always came to say hello and how was our day going. The food was good for the most part but sometimes the buffet was cold and I'm not sure why as there was always hot steam coming from the sides and when staff replaced them they were hot to touch. There was a great variety of food and you could always get something freshly grilled morning, noon and night. We weren't really wild about the desserts but that was probably a good thing when there was so much food. Wash clothes seemed to be an issue for some people but we always had enough and enough towels as well nice hot shower too. The buildings are showing some age but like all of us age seems to have a way of changing our appearance. Loved the view from the tower and the easy access to walk for exercise safely and places for coffee or just to stop and rest. Enjoyed the al a carte restaurants but a bigger variety would be nice. Entertainment was not as good as we had hoped out of 10 days we only saw 3 things that we thought were worthy of a great hotel. Our place last year was smaller and it had much better entertainment. Thank you to staff and management for the great work you do to serve people and make us feel comfortable and blessed. You do a great job. Wally and Lea.
