    “REALLY! ITS NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR TBE HOUR AND 20 MINUTE BUS RIDE..”

    This was our 5th trip to maya area and this had been the worst. Upon arrival we were the last in line for check in and i thought no problem..there are 5 to 6 people working tbe desk. NO SO! By the time the last 5 or 6 families checked in and us still in line,once a check in cleared that desk person bugged off...all the way down to the last person with us still waiting in line..really..no body could have stayed to check us in...this took 1 hour to get checked in... We get checked in and go to our room....strike two...we didnt book the tropical..we booked the colonial...im not impressed at all by this point... Room was clean..tipped 50 pesos every day..got some artisan soaps but after two days of not opening them..they dissapeared..cleaning lady stolen them...dont stop reading there is alot more....we did cross paths with one cockroach in our room..not a biggy but one is still to much considering what we have been through already... Went to the buffet tropical/colonial they are side by side...got seated but no waiter present for the first 20 minutes after everyone at the table had been up to the buffet already...i am thinking what kinda of place did i book...can it be really this bad...alot of people have had wonderfull times here...i guess it was just our time to have a terribl experience. Pool service was just as bad if you are not atleast in a 50ft radius of from the bar...the place is too big and no well managed...wait...tbere is more.. 4th night of our stay we had booked the japanese restaurant...lol..what a joke...i ordered a duck dish and they gave me cut up beef. I had been a chef for 25 years and im sure i can tell duck from beef...the look and taste are not even close...they insisted that it was duck...im livid by this time but refuse to get me down on vacation...there are some good points but had nothing to do with the resort. I have submitted complaints to barcelo head office..which was forwarded to the hotel...i recieved a response basically saying sorry and for the duck it was imposible for that to happen... Well it did...if i wanted a response from the hotel i would have emailed them and not head office..nobody takes blame or responsability there...head office or hotel... I am just telling you our story..take it with a grain of salt but know i am a freemaison and these are not frabricated lies... Find a smaller place for the same money you would probably be better off and they also own occidental group too... THE BEACH...1 km of useless shoreline because of huge rocks everywhere..but where longe chairs are is pretty nice..dolphins are in captivity in a pool...not fenced in real ocean...its sad to see..not a big fan... Now....like i said...i guess it was just our time to have a worthless vacation..but we will not ever in our lifetime go back..even if we won a trip there or got a freebee from them...     “Great Service & Very Accommodating Staff”

    We are having an amazing time at Barcelona. Watching Dave Mathews & Tim Reynolds while standing barefoot in the sand, next to the beach is an incredible experience. The staff at the hotel made our time at the beach and pool relaxing & an overall amazing experience! Drinks were never empty and there endless activities: yoga, Zumba, beach volleyball...Thank you to the staff you are making our stay extraordinary- Nosh, Paco, Bryan, Oscar, Layla, Raul, Esteban, Manual, and every one else at Barcelo! The food at the show and everywhere we ate at Barcelo was fabulous!

    We had many fun times with activities coordinated and organized by a great and caring person in the name of Nashielly Quintera. She was always getting us to participate in shuffleboard, bean bag toss and bocci ball as well as aqua exercising. Nash was very friendly and we very much enjoyed her getting us involved.

    “Good but not worth the price”

    This was my 4th time to Mayan Riviera and 2nd time brining the kids (11 and 14). I'm comparing this to the other resorts I've stayed at which are Paradisus, Grand Sunset Princess, and Moon Palace. This year I was looking for a resort that had a nice beach, good snorkelling, and a more tropical outdoor feel to it. Barcelo succeeded there and I found what I was looking for. The snorkelling was very fun and we saw lots of fish and even a couple sting ray. The whole resort is clean and the rooms were fine (beds were not very comfortable). Reservations are hard to come by and basically after so many tries I just told Guest Services to book me at whatever was available. We did enjoy all the restaurants but didn't like not being able to choose where we wanted to go. What I didn't like was all the extras they wanted to charge for. Premium booze, surfing machine, video games, "nicer" restaurants, water park, the list goes on. All the items we got for free at the other resorts were extra here. Now what is frustrating is that I paid more for this resort than even the Moon Palace. Keep in mind that the CDN exchange rate was much better 2 years ago when I went to Moon Palace. The food at the buffet was decent for breakfast but just ok for lunch and not great for dinner. I certainly miss that luxurious feeling I'm use to in the Mayan Riviera. You can find it in places at Barcelo but not everywhere. Service was good at the restaurants but the pool bar service is very slow. Service in general wasn't as friendly as I've had elsewhere. I would recommend this place if you get a great price. Especially if you're looking for a great beach and snorkelling. However the family and I agree that we'll be looking elsewhere next year.

    “Good but not worth the price”
