“Thanks Barceló Resort for making a very special Mother´s Day with my family!”

It was our first time al Riviera Maya in Mexico. We decided to travel from Peru to celebrate Mothers Day in a special way and we certainly choose the right destination! The buildings, service people and amenities were great all the time! Specially the girls of the Barcy Club at Maya Colonial (Sary Cisneros and Sara), who made my little girl stay so fun and emotional with many activities to do everyday (origami class, bingo kids, hotel tour, coin machines, pool, etc....). We definitely pass a wonderful time al Barceló, and I highly recommended this resort for a peaceful and family time! My only suggestions were that wi-fi must be a free-use service to complete the magical experience. Thanks for everything and hope to return back soon! Viva Mexico!!!!!

“Great first trip to Rivera Maya!”

This was our first trip to an all inclusive resort and a first for Rivera Maya. Likely to not be our last! The overwhelming majority of people at this resort are very nice and accommodating to make your stay and experience a memorable time. We stayed in the Maya Colonial building, which I would only recommend if you are traveling with kids, as the water park for little ones is on the beach side of this location. Several of our friends, wedding party of 60, were in the Caribe and Beach buildings, which are newer by design and offer personal hot tubs if you upgrade. When we go back, we will request Caribe or Beach Jr Suite Oceanview. Also, if you upgrade to one of these suites, you will only see the ocean if you’re on the second or third floor! If that matters to you. The ground level suites walk out to the pools, but you don’t truly see the ocean. So what is Premium level and why does it matter? Well, if your budget allows you to spend a little extra for Premium it will get you top shelf alcohol requests, reservations for any restaurant for every night of your stay, free room service, your fridge filled will beer and soda every day, towel card for the beach, and a selection of free amenities at the spa. You also get your own Premium lounge with concierge to check in, make reservations, and grab a drink while you’re walking around. Even as we sat down to check in we were handed a glass of blue champagne, just a nice welcome! Plus, you get free WiFi all over the resort and your concierge will help you set it up, and this is very helpful. Finally, the room you receive should be an upgrade, ours was jr suite ocean view. If you find the right combination it could include airport transportation and voucher or gift upon arrival, but that is not for every reservation. You have to look around at the fine print on their web site. So what if you don’t get Premium? Well from what we could tell, as some in our group did not, you will still have a great time. You still get beer and drinks, all the buffet food you can eat, and I believe one night at a restaurant. By the way, as soon as you can, coordinate your reservations for dinner, we only had time for the Spanish, Mexican, and Japanese hibachi. Japanese is fun for a group with the cook top hibachi, the Mexican was delicious and be sure to inquire about getting Mayan Coffee made for your table, you will be glad to see this done. There are many extra features from beach excursions, dolphin swimming, spa, shopping, etc. These all cost extra, which I guess is slightly different from some all inclusive resorts. Also, bring cash for the little market and if you choose to tip various staff; however it is not required. You technically will need no cash on the resort, and can charge a multitude of things to your room. Two notes, be sure to use a credit card with NO foreign transaction fees and bring all the cash you think you’ll want. The ATM for US dollars is a $20 fee, plus whatever your bank will charge. Other helpful things, pants and shoes are required for the restaurants. Water shoes might be handy, but not necessary, we did not use ours. Fly in early on your check in day, you can get your arm bands and change in to your suits and start the adventure, even if your room is not available. We only encountered one or two individuals who were rude or annoyed by us Americans. The only other problem we encountered was a warm fridge one day and lack of hot water for pre dinner showers one night. These are minimal, and would not detour us from returning. We speak a little Spanish, which was nice and only enriched our experience. However, if you speak no Spanish at all, you will be absolutely fine, from the airport to the resort and back you will encounter staff who speak enough English to help you. Our trip did not really allow us time to leave the resort, but it appears there are many adventures in the area if you want to get out. We hope to go back again, hopefully speaking even more Spanish and with our 4 year old son next time.

“Great resort, very nice staff. Wifi is not free”

We stayed for a week with our 2,5 year old. The hotel was great, pools are very nice, lots to do for kids. The water park was very good, you have to pay extra but if you signed up for “My Barcelo” you can get it for free. The dolphin show is short but kids really love it. It’s really hard to get bored here. Rooms are nice, although they do have a smell of humidity but I guess that is unavoidable in that region. Ask for a king bed because the “queen” beds are really small. Staff is very very nice. A la carte restaurants are very good and there is great variety in the food. If you want to rent a car there is an Alamo office inside the resort with very good service On the down side, wifi is not included and this is really a shame, not because of the price, but because an all inclusive plan should have it and not make you go to an office and pay to have wifi. Just add it to the room price right from the start, really makes no sense. Checking in takes a really long time, lots of explanations and only one or two people at the front desk, specially when groups arrive you have to wait for a long long time. Food is very good, only thing they should improve are the “fruit” juices which are not natural at all. In a country like Mexico this shouldn’t be. We had a great vacation and will absolutely come back one day.

    “I love this resort”

My family and I loved this resort. We traveled from 5/6-5/13. The buffet was amazing, and our favorite waiter was Isai Balam. We sat with Isai everyday that we were there, and he took great care of us. We went to the specialty restaurants and the steakhouse was awesome, and so was the Japanese restaurant Kyoto. The entertainment staff was perfect, and something was always going on. The pool bar was so nice for day drinking all day long, and the snack bar was awesome- I highly recommend the guacamole. We loved this resort so much that we will be back again in a couple of months.
