    “Unforgettable Experience”

    We recently visited and had a 7-day stay at the Barceló Montelimar. We were a big group travelling from Canada (approx. 60 people), all there for mine and my partner’s wedding which took place on Saturday, March 11, 2017. From the very beginning until the very end our trip, our experience was extraordinary. The grounds of the Barceló are large and stunning. It feels like you’re in a jungle. It is very well taken care of and wherever you are is a beautiful sight. We were greeted at the Barceló with traditional folkloric dancers and with delicious cocktails. The staff took care of our luggage and brought them to our respective rooms in a timely manner. The rooms are spacious and clean with AC, the beds are extremely comfortable and ensure restful nights. Within the hour of arriving at the Barceló, we were all at the beach. The beach is stunning and spectacular. The sand is soft, there are no rocks and no seaweed. It is kept clean and feels deserted due to its size. Our group took advantage of the beach volleyball court which is already set up. We also rented boogie boards and enjoyed riding the waves. On our first day there we arrived before dinner time but this was not an issue as the Barceló has a snack bar opened daily from noon to 7pm, which we all enjoyed. The snack bar is located where the main pool is, which our group enjoyed very much. Most of us participated in the games and activities that took place in that area, all were very fun and entertaining! The food at the Barceló is delicious and the buffet menu varied throughout the week and for all of the 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). The beverages were also very good, our group had a favourite, the Chacarrón. Our group very much enjoyed and took advantage of the karaoke nights. We especially enjoyed hanging out at the Casino and the disco which had great music. The shows at the Barceló were also very entertaining. I only wish they took place more often as they were great! The shows started with an interactive portion which was a lot of fun and hilarious and it was followed by traditional Nicaraguan folkloric dancing, which was stunning. The biggest factor in our incredible experience was the staff of the Barceló. All staff, from the reception staff to the gardeners, from the maids to the bar staff, from the shuttle drivers to the entertainment team, and from the restaurant staff to the security guards, were incredibly friendly and always willing to help. They were so flexible with our group and also very patient with us! We felt very welcomed and acknowledged. Many of them knew our names and would go out of their way to come greet us. Through the staff we were able to set up private excursions and get “microbuses” to get around and visit neighbouring towns; all at affordable prices. The drivers were always friendly, patient, and flexible as well. My partner and I worked closely with the events coordinator Maria who was extremely helpful throughout the week and always there for us. She was one of those staff who always went out of her way to ensure our needs were met. She helped relieve a lot of stress and worries surrounding our wedding, which was held at the Barceló’s Ranchón. She was present for our wedding reception, ensuring everything went according to plan. The food for our wedding buffet was delicious, but the best part about our reception was the Dj the Barceló provided who perfectly read the crowd. If it hadn’t been for him stopping the music (past the time our party was supposed to end) we could have stayed there all night. The Dj played music for everyone in our group, music for the older generations, for the younger crowd, latin music, and even typical Nicaragua music that we all enjoyed. I highly recommend visiting and staying at the Barceló Montelimar, your experience will be one of a kind. My partner and I will certainly be returning, and our group is actually planning a reunion there in a few years, that’s how much we all enjoyed it! Gracias Barceló!!

    “Heaven on Earth!”

    ....best describes this hotel and location. By choice, I selected to stay in the hotel building itself. I was not disappointed. Every room faces towards the ocean. The room was a decent size by most standards, the bed and pillows were so comfortable that having a great sleep was never an issue. The view from the top floor was amazing ( picture attached). It was nice at night to sit out and listen to the sounds and hear the crashing of the waves. To summarize... the staff were fantastic, a special thanks to Marco, by far the best tour rep I've encountered in all of my travels over the last 30 years. The food for a buffet it was excellent, large variety, very flavourful, and always kept refilled. The a la carte Italian was good. The mixed drinks went down so easy as the rum was so smooth. The local beer was good as well and if that wasn't enough they also sold Heineken for $2 a bottle. The coffee lived up to the expectations . The grounds were well maintained and gave the impression that you were in the jungle. The beach was expansive and in the evening it provided an impressive backdrop to watch the sunsets. The swimming pools were nice, although the ocean for me was not an option after the stingray warning. Overall the weather was picture perfect and yes it is a safe destination. With respect to currency I brought both U.S. and the local currency. It was easier with the U.S. As it was referenced the most and it avoided doing the exchange calculation. I could go on forever describing this paradise, so I'll end it like this...if you could go on only vacation in your lifetime, the Barcelona Montelimar is the place...it exceeds all expectations.

    “Amazing staff, Beach and an overall fantastic experience”

    Where to start? This resort was amazing, from the staff, rooms, pools ect... i could go on forever. We went as a party for a wedding and it was just perfect. We all enjoyed our stay. Such and awesome resort. I would highly suggest this place for anyone who loves beauty. We were all treated with the up most respect and felt so at home. The staff here were all very courteous and just all around pleasant to be around. I speak on behalf of all of us when i say, Thank you so very much for the wonderful stay.

    “some issues”

    our room was the wrong one that we booked,wasn't ocean front but whatever..lots of problems with our room that was taken care of promptly..but i had many things stolen from pool area even tho i was watching things very carefully and i had my water shoes taken from my suitcase,,i suspect was before i left the resort,,employees saw me putting them in my suitcase at last minute..i lost a towel suntan lotion and binocculars...i felt like i was being watched by the weekend people visiting,waiting for opportunity..i travel very often and never had this happen,,,the resort was nice and the food great

    “Barcelo Montelimar”

    Flew with Air Transat, not best flight ever but that’s Air Transat for you. We were met at the airport by Marcos (Air Transat Rep.) who gave us our wrist bands and resort package which included our room numbers, towels cards and a map of the resort. On the bus and heading to the resort in record time. Drive from airport to resort was 2 hours long and the roads are windy and bumpy; quite a few passengers felt sick on the journey. At the resort we were greeted with a drink and dancers. Made our way to our rooms – we opted for a bungalow which was well worth paying the extra for. We were in 328 down at the ocean. None of the bungalows have ocean views due to the expanse of gardens which I may add are stunning and well maintained. Pools are amazing and there are lovely walks throughout the property. Tons of sun loungers but no shade if you go on to the beach. Our bungalow was fine, king bed, fridge which was stocked daily along with plenty towels and tons of hot water. We found it very quiet and peaceful. Staff was all friendly and always spoke to you. Food was good especially the a la carte restaurants, our favourite being the sea food restaurant. Buffet was fine with lots of variety, you certainly wouldn’t go hungry. Local wine and beer was also good. Wait staff were very attentive and although none spoke English they made the effort. Shows not bad, ventured in to the casino once which was fun but never went to the disco. If you want to do a day trip ask reception to book a taxi as it works out so much better than booking through Transat. Eight of us went in to Mombacha (volcano and national park), then into Granada where we had three-hours guided tour and lunch. Cost $50 per person instead of $130. Jose our driver picked us up at reception at 8:00am and had us back at the resort for 6:00pm – excellent day. My only comment would be that the dining options for the a la carte could be better. You can only dine at these restaurants twice in the week or in our case four times in two-weeks. That’s said the buffet was fine but did get VERY over crowded on the weekend when the locals arrive.
