    “Oversold and under delivered...”

Positives first: The building is indeed stunning, the pool is delightful (though some more sunloungers might be useful for such a large resort). Negatives: We stayed in one of the villas, we paid extra for this to accommodate our family (2 adults 2 children) for them to sleep on a sofa bed, by the front door. The walls are thin, we could hear a baby crying next door for the 2 nights we stayed, it felt more like a tidy motel than a premium resort. But at least our car was conveniently parked right outside. I had read other reviews before booking but the positives outweighed the negatives so we took the plunge, but, I can confirm the chaos and disorder described in the bar/restaurant area is all true. I'm all for the 'manana' ethos when in Spain but it was really very, very slow, disorganised, non existent even, this did unfortunately ruin our stay. The hotel is clearly understaffed and stressed, seeming surprised at how busy it is for August (??!!) in the evening and at breakfast, it was chaotic. And the food is over priced and less than average quality. I would see no reason to stay again, I'm very disappointed that the hotel fell so short of expectations, it could be rather a spectacular experience if managed better.

Dear 2cookies, Although we are quite surprised and dismayed by the content of your review regarding your holiday at our Barceló Monasterio de Boltaña, please rest assured that your comments have been taken onboard and revised by the entire Management team, however we would like to take this opportunity to clarify certain aspects of your review as a simple matter of exactness of the information reported. We have renewed all the extra beds of our villas less than one year ago, and since then, most of our customer's feedback about them have been positive, pointing out the comfability of them. We apologize if your experience didn´t reach your expectations. Regarding the food quality, we work with local fresh products such as Cinca trout, La Fueva pork and Aragonese lamb, among others. Besides, we use our own vegetables, raised and grown in our vegetable garden, being all them eco-friendly. Again, we genuinely appreciate the time you took out of your day to inform us of the inadequacies you experienced during your stay and we sincerely hope that you will allow us another opportunity to demonstrate our true level of hospitality and interest in offering you the luxury experience you look for in a future visit to the Pyrenees. Best regards , Xavier Marsal Sanchez Deputy Manager Barceló Monasterio de Boltaña

    “Wow! What a place.”

We were looking for a relaxing base from which to adventure in the Pyrenees and boy did we find it with this place. The Monasterio has it all: good food; chill vibe; a pool and poolside bar; a kids club; a river with a swimming hole; hiking and cycling paths to and from the door; quaint villages with great restaurants a short walk or taxi ride away; and above all, amazingly helpful people. I had read other reviews of the place that stated the service was lacking, but our experience - a group of 5 families with 10 children - was nearly perfect. The reception helped solve many problems and gave very good dining suggestions. Thank you Carmen, Beatriz, Laura and David. And the team at the bar were equally great at helping with late night meals and wine. Muchas gracias Celine, Veronica and Gigi.

    “Busy family hotel”

We stayed 2 nights in the 'villa' room in high season. The hotel was popular with families and this made the restaurant very busy. Overall very pleasant but more like a resort hotel than we expected. I don't recommend a villa room unless you need the space. Spa was lovely and food generally very good given the numbers of guests.

Dear Shephards5, We most definitely appreciate to understand that you have enjoyed your stay amongst us and thank you for your kind review and for sharing it with the trip advisor readers. Indeed, during summer time, the hotel is popular with families, for that reason you can find the restaurant busy sometimes. That's the reason we recommend to come in low attendance hours, especially when the families have little kids. Nevertheless, the great performance of our gastronomy team allows us to deliver good services in any kind of situation. Thank you once again for making us your choice hotel, we certaily look forward to serving you again and to have the opportunity to exceed you expectations in a not too distant future. “Great location and facilities, but service can be improved”

This is no doubt a beautiful hotel- a converted monastery with quirky art and original reconversion. The location is also ideal for the area. We stayed for 3 nights on dbb basis and were stunned by the building, the room facilities and the location. I can't say the same about the service though. The dinner experience was particularly poor- dishes are uninspiring, not particularly well cooked, and the service is in chaos. No obvious management presence, so the waiters do their best- clearly understaffed and running stressed most of the times. They brought us the wrong dishes, cold food, forgot the drinks or cups, did not have time to serve drinks properly or see us leave. Breakfast was similar- limited choice of hot foods- but fine otherwise- service again a bit chaotic. I think a revised foods & beverage strategy is needed- we ate in some splendid local restaurants and the food in the area is clearly excellent. A new chef perhaps, together with some more staff and attention to detail could lift up the experience here. Other points- tea/coffee making facilities expected in the room at this level; poor bar selection in rooms; pool water too cold; no pillow menu- we wanted a flatter pillow; spa- some of the facilities were not working and 4 euros for a compulsory hat seems a bit much (this is usually free in most spas); toilets without paper on several occasions or no soap in spa at showers (this is really annoying at best times and should not happen!) Overall- recommend this hotel for stunning location, big rooms, great design and facilities; hope service improves overall, especially in food & beverage dept

    “Location to die for ”

This is a beautiful location in the foothills of the Pyrenees and the hotel is a converted monastery with added villas in the grounds built in similar stone style. It is a stunning place. Although there is nothing wrong with the rest of it per se, the feel of the place is not quite to the same 5 star standard. Nothing wrong with the staff but it felt more like a family holiday resort than a top notch destination. Breakfast in particular was a bit of a let down. That said a pleasant place to stay as a base to explore.
