Despite being an urban beach, its proximity to the Sierra Helada Natural Park encourages the growth of many species, both plant and animal. You can even discover surprising life beneath the surface of the sea with just some snorkelling goggles.

Albir Beach is also very convenient for families and those who prefer a quiet swim in the sea, with the guarantee of having all kinds of services within easy reach, including restaurants and accommodation.

Description of Albir Beach

Albir Beach is bordered on one side by the marina of the town of Altea to the north and the foothills of the Sierra Helada to the south. This beach is quite out of the ordinary in terms of the standards of beaches in the province of Alicante. Not only because of its length (about 500 metres long and 100 metres wide), but above all due to the fact that it is a pebble beach.

This isn’t a problem, although we recommend you wear suitable sandals on your feet both for walking and for getting into the water. As this is an urban beach, it has a large number of services available on the beach and also in the surrounding area, such as showers, toilets, drinks and ice-cream stands, restaurants, accommodation, shops and supermarkets, etc.

The shallow depth, especially in the first few metres where the sea meets the beach, means that children take a dip without any worries at all. In any case, lifeguards are on duty during the summer season (from June to September).

During this time of year, the beach has several designated areas for umbrellas and sun loungers which you can hire for the day, ideal for enjoying the sun, the breeze and the sea water completely carefree.

What to do on Albir Beach

Without a doubt, the best thing to do on Albir Beach is to enjoy the connection between the sea and the land by bathing in the water and the sun. Or at least, that’s what most of the people who visit the beach do. Due to its length, the beach is also ideal for strolling along the shore or along the beautiful promenade that flanks it.

Those who want to continue their walk should know that this beach is the starting point towards the Albir Lighthouse, some four kilometres away, which is located in the Sierra Helada Natural Park and offers some very impressive panoramic views over the sea.

You can also practise sports such as beach volleyball, scuba diving, windsurfing, kayaking and paddle surfing without leaving the beach. The little ones can also have fun in a small children’s playground with swings and there’s an area with gym and weight training equipment for adults.

Where to eat near Albir Beach

There are several restaurants where you can eat near Albir Beach or even in front of it. Some of the most highly recommended places are:

La Roca (Camí Vell del Far, 2): this restaurant’s Caribbean atmosphere and menu will surprise you. Here you can eat Dominican pasties or Jamaican ribs, as well as tropical salads and hamburgers with invigorating spicy and very tasty flavours.

Country Ribs (Paseo de las Estrellas, Edificio Playa Mar III): with this name, the pork ribs are obviously the hit here, prepared and presented in the most authentic Western US style. Alongside them, there are many Tex-Mex dishes (nachos, jalapeños, burritos, etc.), not forgetting the hamburgers.

Nuevo Siglo (Pau Casals, 1): if you like oriental flavours, this restaurant is a good option to cater to your appetite. Although most of the menu is made up of Chinese dishes, there are some offerings from neighbouring cuisines, such as Singapore rice dishes or Vietnamese rolls.
