The Tour:
On this tour, we will discover the most monumental side of Oviedo, including its palaces and the numerous statues that can be found at every turn.
The visit begins at Plaza de Alfonso II El Casto, named after the King of Asturias who established his seat in Oviedo and is considered the first pilgrim of the Camino de Santiago.
In this square stands the Cathedral of San Salvador, known as Sancta Ovetensis for the numerous relics housed in the Holy Chamber (Cámara Santa). Among the most famous are the Holy Shroud and the Victory Cross, the quintessential symbol of Asturias.
We will walk around the cathedral via the Santa Bárbara passage to admire the Church of San Tirso, a prime example of Asturian pre-Romanesque architecture.
After reaching Plaza de Trascorrales, we will continue to Plaza de La Constitución, dominated by the City Hall and the Church of San Isidoro el Real.
The next stop will be Plaza del Fontán, one of the city’s most charming spots, famous for its open-air market (rastro) and for enjoying a traditional culín of cider. However, it is best known for the colorful and striking façades of its buildings.
Near Plaza de la Escandalera, the heart of Oviedo, we will see Campo San Francisco, the Principality Assembly, and the Campoamor Theatre, among other iconic surrounding landmarks.
We will return via Plaza Porlier to Plaza de Alfonso II El Casto, where the guided tour concludes.
