This excursion from Seville offers the opportunity to walk the Caminito del Rey, one of Andalusia’s most renowned trails, located in the Gaitanes Gorge in the province of Málaga.
The main section of the route is approximately 3 kilometres long, with walkways set at an average height of 100 metres above the Guadalhorce River, narrowing to just one metre in some areas. The path begins in the municipality of Ardales, passes through Antequera and ends in El Chorro (Álora).
Built at the beginning of the 20th century by the Sociedad Hidroeléctrica del Chorro to allow workers to move between the Gaitanejo and El Chorro hydroelectric plants, the trail received its name in 1921 following a visit by King Alfonso XIII for the inauguration of the Conde de Guadalhorce dam. After decades of deterioration, it was restored in 2014 and reopened to the public in 2015, now ensuring safe access for visitors.
The walk runs between the Guadalhorce-Guadalteba reservoir and the area of El Chorro, alongside the railway line, offering views of the Gaitanes and Gaitanejo gorges. At the end of the route, transport will collect the group for the return to Seville, with the option of stopping at a local restaurant for lunch or having free time for your own meal or picnic.
Depending on the day’s schedule, the excursion may include a stop in Osuna, a town declared a Historic-Artistic Site, known for its monumental heritage and as a filming location for various productions.
Estimated arrival back in Seville is between 19:00 and 21:00, depending on how the day unfolds.
