Torremolinos is one of the most famous towns on the Costa del Sol due to its beaches and its lively coastal resorts. In fact, the beach of Los Álamos with its tall palm trees is considered one of the most vibrant, with its beach bars (some of them traditional, serving the famous Málaga skewered sardines) and beach clubs where you can enjoy a cocktail at sunset.

The context of the beach: where it is and how to enjoy it to the full

This sandy beach stretches for one and a half kilometres, making it one of the area’s biggest beaches, and since it is some distance from the centre of Torremolinos, it is rarely full, even in summer.

The beach is located to the east of the town in the Los Álamos district (hence its name), and on the edge of the municipality of Málaga, between the beaches of Playamar and San Julian.

For this reason, this semi-urban beach is a good choice if you are seeking some space, as it is never too crowded.

Los Álamos is very popular with young people because of its beach clubs, which blend harmoniously with the traditional beach bars known as chiringuitos.

The beach is easily reached by car (there are several car parks nearby, although you need to bear in mind that they fill up very quickly in summer), or you could travel by the urban bus along the M-123 or by train, as the railway station is very close by.

At Los Álamos, there are a few Roman archaeological sites such as La Cizaña; this area has has been the site of human settlements for many centuries.

Facilities and features at one of Torremolinos’ biggest beaches

Los Álamos is a five-star beach: in other words, it has a Blue Flag and Q for Quality status, thanks not only to the condition of the beach but also the services offered here.

The beach is supervised by a lifeguard during the summer and is fully accessible, as it has an area for people with limited mobility which is equipped with life jackets, hoists and amphibious wheelchairs.

One of Los Álamos’ most attractive features is the area of palm trees that creates shade, very welcome during the hottest months. Otherwise, you can always hire a sunshade or a sun lounger on the beach.

The beach also has public toilets (also adapted for disabled use), showers, foot baths and lots of bars and restaurants, so visitors will find everything they need.

Activities available on a beach with a good wind

One of the most popular water sports in Los Álamos is kitesurfing and all its variants, as there is a favourable wind all year round.

There are several surfing schools along the beach which have equipment available to hire as well as specialist instructors for adults and children. Other popular water sports here include paddle boarding and kayaking.

But there are lots of sports available away from the water: apart from long walks along the beach, which links up with another, nearby beach, there are pitches where you can play beach volleyball, and on the Paseo Marítimo [Seafront Promenade] that runs along the Torremolinos coast, there is a special track reserved for cycling and skating enthusiasts, with an entrance near the beach itself.

Beach bars and places to eat: skewered sardines at sunset

Los Álamos has several authentic beach bars where you can follow the time-honoured tradition of enjoying a good plate of skewered sardines while you watch the sun go down. However, this is not the only tapa on offer at Restaurante Ramos or Pepe y Carmen, two of the most typical eateries along the coast where you could order fresh fish, sea food or one of the very tempting rice dishes.

If you are looking for somewhere with more of a buzz, this beach is famous for the great atmosphere of its beach clubs that are a magnet for young people.

Opposite the beach is Café del Mar, one of the best-known places in the area to round off a day’s swimming with a cocktail, or there is Moliere Playa, one of a number of places where live music is interspersed with DJ sessions.
