“The Good, the Bad and the downright Ugly”

We've travelled the world, mainly on an All Inclusive basis so this is an honest review based on over 10yrs of experience. You never expect everything to go 100% and I had no intention of writing a review until our final day when the Ugly happened. In summary: This is the worst hotel we have ever had the misfortune of having to stay in, it is mediocre at best, with a dose of slander to give you that little extra. I would suggest you save some money and go to the Melia Atlantico. The Good: Pool area is quite pretty, there were always available sun loungers with shade and there wasn't constant music all day. The animacion team were always friendly, helpful, welcoming and not at all pushy. Food in the main restaurant was a good tasty selection most days and the staff were friendly. They were quite slow clearing plates at peak times, which I didn't feel was their fault, but more of a lack of staff. Beds were comfy. The Bad: TUI coach drops you on the road and you are left to drag your luggage 100m up hill and over curbs. Reception try to keep your passport so they can complete their paperwork at their leisure and took offence when we said we weren't happy with this. They then told us our room wasn't ready and couldn't tell us when it would be, even though they knew when we were arriving and the hotel certainly wasn't full. In actual fact we only had to wait about 10mins, which makes it even crazier. Throughout our trip we found this particular member of staff unhelpful and obstructive in his attitude towards us. You're given vague directions to your room and an All Inclusive leaflet and left to drag your luggage to your room as there is no porter service. We left reception feeling we had checked into a Travelodge and not a luxury hotel as advertised. At a later stage we were given incorrect information about bike hire by another member of reception which resulted in a waste of our time, so it is worth double checking any information given. Cleanliness is also lacking in this hotel; I believe they mop the room floors, but this left a dirty residue everyday, there was a smear on the room mirror when we arrived and was still there when we left 2wks later, when mould started to appear on the wall this was never wiped away either, they also don't clean the bathroom glasses if used and the corridors outside our room were always dirty and dusty. On one occasion our room was only half cleaned by 6pm, we were left with only the dirty towels, the furniture pulled out and only one bed made. When we called reception we were told someone would come and 'refresh' the room, which involved a woman handing clean towels to us at the door, so we were left to move all the furniture back ourselves. There was also blood left on one of the doors in the Ladies toilet in reception for over a week, which I reported to the rep on my departure and so I would hope this has now been cleaned. All Inclusive at this hotels left us feeling like 2nd class citizens, the bar waiters in the evening (hotel has no daytime bar waiters) clear glasses, but more often than not won't ask if you would like another drink, although would ask the tables who were paying. They would remove ashtrays while my partner was actually smoking and not replace them, leaving him to use an empty glass or the floor! I also saw a barman add additional drinks to my order slip after I had signed it (I'm not going to speculate what that was about as my review is based on facts). They also don't automatically replenish drinks in the fridge in the room (even water) very often and if you ask for them they class that as room service and charge you. If you happen to miss lunch I would advise you to avoid the AI snack bar selection as quite frankly I wouldn't feed it to an animal (grey chicken nuggets/two tone frankfurters/dry pizza/curly cheese toasties). The only thing we took were two packs of wafers, which when we looked at them in the room were 2wks out of date, which is inexcusable and which we returned to a manager that evening and lead to The Ugly. The drink selection for AI is also quite limited, but neither of us drink very much, although we enjoy a cocktail on holiday, but you can only have the one selected that day for AI and they really weren't very nice and quite watery. The sangria was ok, but used tinned fruit. The Ugly: as we had so many minor problems the rep asked us to complete a complaint form and then stated Sylvie the Customer Relations Manager wanted to speak to us. This conversation went fine (we weren't asking or after anything) and at the end she offered us glasses of cava, we thanked her, but said we don't drink/like it. Later on we went to our room to find a bottle of cava in the fridge, a gentleman then knocked and gave my partner a note from Sylvie and wanted to give him another bottle of cava. My partner said we had one in the fridge already and that we don't drink it. He didn't seem to understand so my partner took the first bottle, gave him that back and asked if he could tell them that we don't want it as we don't drink it. The man laughed and said ok, but as we didn't feel he had understood we went to see Sylvie and thanked her for the gesture and explained again that we don't drink cava. An additional point is that the note was addressed to Mr & Mrs, but that isn't my name (lesson #1 customer relations is surely get your client's name right!). As far as we were concerned there was nothing left to resolve. HOWEVER, while waiting for the coach to the airport the rep said she had to ask us about the 'incident'. We had no idea what she was talking about, so she told us the Customer Relations Manager had told her we had returned the cava in a rude and aggressive manner. This was completely not the case (no we weren't all happy clappy, but both of us work in customer services and wouldn't be rude to a random staff member) and we are so offended by this false and slanderous accusation that in fact this has totally spoilt our entire 2wks annual holiday and this hotel is by no means cheap. What we would like to say is that the rep, Deon, dealt with us in a totally professional and understanding manner which we greatly appreciated. In conclusion: go somewhere else where you will be made to feel welcome and have an enjoyable time!

Very Good hotel but the entertainment was ordinary, I've played in a band all my life and you readjust your tunes to suit the audiance. These entertainers were clueless. They simply didn't know how to capture an audiance

“Hotel standard fine, but whole experience not for us”

Location:- The hinterland approach to the hotel is underdeveloped but fairly featureless. The hotel itself is in a ribbon development located along the main (quiet) road & across from the vast amazing beach. I would say it is the most attractive of the buildings etc in that section - it's sky profile is certainly less instrusive than that the adjoining apartments. There are a few bars/restaurants/shops along the beachside but not any really other places to stroll in the evenings. The beach is lovely in the evening but prepare for the asault by mosquitoes. There is an open 'train' to the Marina & a round trip bus to Ayamonte the nearest authentic town. The reliability was variable and the buses were jammed full this early in the season. Hotel:- Overall the hotel appears well run, and the level of cleanliness is generally good. All of the staff that we encountered or observed, were helpful & professional. Our room was a reasonable size and the bathroom was spacious. However it was disappointing to have badly torn voile curtains in our room, as they were clearly visible to staff. The small grounds are attractive & well maintained. It is 'forbidden' to use loungers on the grass areas, so it felt rather cramped in the designated hard-landscaped shady areas. It is also 'forbidden' to reserve loungers, but we noticed that was increasingly happening. Food:- The restaurant was large; noisy & busy. In fact it was most enjoyable at lunchtime because of the limited number of full board guests. The food was the usual hotel buffet fare - wide selection/replenished frequently & lots of fresh fruit. As non-meat eaters we had less choice, but there was always fish available. However a Veggie would struggle as I never saw any non-animal based protein foods. Entertainment:- The activity staff buzz around in the daytime (& evening) & organise keep fit in the pool etc, often accompanied by ear splitting amplified music. As there is nowhere else to be, we found this highly intrusive. Similarly the evening entertainment seemed to consist of variable quality singers with recorded backing tracks, again often played at incredible & inescapable volume. In fact the night we arrived we could barely hear what the receptionist was saying, & when we went to our room could hear the din with the door shut. We were given another room (without a balcony) overlooking the end of the pool, which protected us from the noise in the evenings. People enjoy different things but the lack of choice is a major negative issue with this hotel. We spent one evening with another couple on the terrace but ended up with sore throats after having to shout to communicate with each other. There is nowhere else to go in the public areas to relax in peace in the evenings, so often retreated to our room. A more varied & perhaps more sophisticated entertainment programme would definitely improve the attraction of this hotel. Other British guests also said the same things to us. Conclusion:- We clearly chose the wrong location/hotel for us, as we prefer to feel more of a connection to Spain. This albeit well-run hotel felt like in some ways like an upmarket holidaycamp in the sun.
