This is an award which the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Health grant for complying with the hygiene standards that are set out in Mexican legislation NMX-F605 NORMEX 2004.
The assessment is carried out in the following areas:
· Reception of foodstuffs
· Handling chemical products
· Refrigeration Freezing
· Dining area
· Food Preparation
· Service area
· Water and ice
· Sanitary services for staff
· Waste management
· Pest control
This award endorses the commitment of the Occidental Costa Cancún hotel to its guests in the preparation and serving of food and beverages.
The Cristal risk management program was developed by the Check Safety First division within the Cristal International Standards organization specifically for the tourism industry. It verifies that high quality standards are met according to national and international regulations.
This program has been set up in hotels that are part of the Barceló Group. Evaluations consist of reviewing protocols and checking over 250 different directives of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The objectives of this initiative are to reduce the main health risks associated with: the water used at the hotel and to prevent the spread of Legionella (Water Check); food prepared for guests (Food Check); hotel room standards and amenities (Room Check); safety (Safety Check); crisis management due to adverse weather conditions such as hurricanes (Crisis Check); pool cleanliness (Pool Check); fire prevention (Fire Check); and its eco-friendly, sustainable tourism practices (Eco Check).
EarthCheck is a certification that promotes sustainable tourism. This practice is based on operating without harming the environment. It includes a plan of action to accomplish several key objectives for the industry. Companies assume responsibility to be respectful towards the environment through actions that benefit today and remain in place for the future.
All the staff of the hotel must contribute to:
· Energy saving
· Waste separation
· The use of biodegradable chemical products
· The protection of flora and fauna
This program operates as an independent company, since it manages its own standard of benchmarking and certification with independent auditors.
The “S” Award is a distinction awarded by the Mexican Secretary of Tourism to companies that follow and encourage sustainable business practices. These companies also preserve natural resources and respect the environment.
The “M” Award is a distinction awarded by the Mexican Secretary of Tourism to tourism establishments that successfully implement the Modernized Quality Program. This guarantees the company has adopted good business practices and recognizes the company as a model in the tourism industry.
