    “Spring Break”

This is a fantastic resort for families. We just returned from a weeks stay and had the best time. The place is immaculate the staff does a great job and everyone was very attentive to our needs. When looking at resort map the place looks huge but after a day or two we were very comfortable and the paths and signs they have are very helpful. I have a 9 year old and the activities were very much targeted at kids as well as adults which was nice. The sea turtles are as advertised we saw turtles everyday and even fed them bananas. The food was great my child had no problem finding things she liked. We can't wait to plan our next trip we will definitely be back.

“Great hotel, but Premium Check in is awful”

Please see my earlier reviews of this property. In general, it is a great resort, first class service, excellent food. However, i have to comment about one glaring flaw: the premium check in process. We were two families, and it took us (and this is not an exaggeration) 90 minutes from the moment we walked in until we finally got the keys to our rooms. I know this because of the time tag on a series of texts. Why it takes this long, i have no idea. Maybe the process is inefficient, or maybe they are understaffed at this location. It seemed the standard check in at the front desk was much, much quicker. You would think that since we are paying for premium service, we would have an expedited check in process. But the opposite is true. Look, when you arrive at the resort, all you want to do is get your room, get a drink, and relax. You know what would be a true Premium feature? Letting us check in via email before we get there, so that when we arrive, all you'd have to do is verify the passports and hand us our keys.

    “Spring vacation”

Again Barcelo palace was just wonderful, everything including the resort and grounds were spotless, well manicured grounds, and the staff outstounding. Special attention to the seafood restaurant, french restaurant and the asian restaurant. The beach was outstanding, kept very clean and swept every morning. I cant say enough good things about the entire staff, all professional, friendly and willing to help. the only negative thing I would comment about, that really isn't the hotel, would be the merchandise from the kiosk in the palace on the second level. Purchased sunglasses from them for $20.00 USC. they lasted less than 48 hours, talked to the owner who refused a replacement or refund. I couldn't recommend this business. Joyas por amor.

    “Outstanding, exquisite resort and experience!”

If you want to be treated like royalty this is the place for you! Fine dining, relaxing bars, beaches, great entertainment, spa treatments and outstanding fitness classes and facilities! Did zumba and water aerobics on beach so much fun and very talented energetic instructors. Awesome yoga, pilates spin, and bootcamp classes at the fitness facility connected to the spa. The fitness centre and instructors are "top-notch" - best I have every seen on a holiday!!! Spa and massages divine! Meals at all the restaurants amazing - feel like a queen and king every day!!!

“Overall Positive Experience - Make dinner reservations as soon as you arrive”

Overall, we had a positive experience staying at the Barcelo Maya Palace with our three adult children. Since all three of our kids were over 18, we were required to reserve two rooms. While this was annoying (could have stayed in one room if our twins were 5 months younger), the layout of the bathroom (open shower in same room as sink) would have made getting ready in the morning difficult if we stayed in one room. They were able to get us two rooms next to each other which was convenient. The rooms themselves were sufficient and clean. The air conditioning struggled at times to keep the rooms cooled, and they did not seem to remove the humidity in the room at all. Don't even think about trying to dry any clothes in the room (or even on patio) as humidity is high indoors and out. Every piece of paper that was out on our desk was so damp you could barely write on it. While there is an abundance of food options, learn from our mistakes to have the best experience. The large breakfast buffets were generally good...especially the abundance of fresh fruit. It is strange that the serving trays for the meats and other dishes have bright lights that you would think also warm the food, but nearly everything under the lights was cold (eggs, bacon, sausage, vegetables, pizza, etc). You really had to catch the food when it was first placed out or you would be eating cold food. If you wanted something warm, you had to stand in line to have a custom omlet or meat option prepared for you. For lunch, skip the large buffet areas at the hotels and go to the "snack bars" closer to the beach and pools. The food was fresher and they kept it hot. While the selection was smaller, it was a much better experience. For dinner, the large buffets were simply nasty (poor selection, cold food, long lines for anything custom). I would recommend avoiding them altogether and getting your dinner reservations at the restaurants made as soon as you arrive. Even though we paid for two rooms, they would only let us make 3 reservations on the first day of our 7 day stay. We went back the second day to get reservations for 2 additional nights. By staying in the palace, you get to make reservations at any of the hotels in the overall resort - major perk. The restuarant options were overall very good. Our favorites were the Italian and Brazilian options. You do need to pack long pants and closed-toed shoes for any of the males in your party to dine at the restuarants. Bottom line, we greatly enjoyed our stay. We were fortunate to get dinner reservations in early (heard many folks complaining there were no reservations open or they had to eat very late at night). The beaches are beautiful, and they do a good job of keeping them clean and tidy.
