Barceló Maya Palace reviewed by AntanasL on . "Been here, done that" BUT, loved doing it again. Also, read about MEDICAL INFO! We were here last year but this year took along our daughter and granddaughter. Not to be repetitious, you can read my review from last year. All was as good as before but even better with our two... “Good family getaway”

The hotel is great, the rooms are nice and clean. Pools and beach are excellent. The food is just o.k, defently not a highlight of our trip. for the most part the staff are great. We don't drink a lot and was frustrated when the bartenders at the wetbar would not acknowledge you... even when the bar was not as busy, the morning bartenders seem to the worst.

“Barcy club for kids is amazing!!”

The staff at the Barcy was amazing the kids had a blast. Karla, Faby and most of all Aurora were the best! Our kids (8) total with the group had an amazing time! The kids were in and out each day and asked to come back each day.

    “Never going back”

My first encounter with the Barcelo Maya Palace was enough for me to never want to go back again. EVER. Here's why: Section 1: Reservations - We made our reservations about a month ago at the Barcelo Maya Colonial(As it is closer to everything) but decided to pay at the hotel as we were still adding rooms through the weeks. (This was a party of 20 - 15 Adults, 5 Kids ages 4-14) - Upon arrival, we were told that 6 of our 7 rooms had been moved to the Palace. We obviously wanted the other room moved over as well as it didn't make sense to have the family split up. This took one hour. When that was over, we head up to the Palace to check in. Section 2: Check-In - We got there at 8:30am and didn't get through until around 11:30. - We WANTED to pay off the rooms on the Credit Card but their system refused to accept any of the cards. We were on the phone with our banks who all said that the problem was not on their end and the hotel still did not accept our cards. Thankfully, some of us had some US dollars and Pesos and that is how we paid. The rooms paid in Pesos came out to about $300 more than the amount we had reserved them for. Section 3: Restaurants & Bars - The food & Drinks were the best of all the resorts in that area that we've been to. 5 stars on that. - The service was also incredible. Bartender Ulises at the bar near the pool and beach area, Dorotheo at the Mexican Restaurant in the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort and Waitress Selene Tec at the Coral Grill were great! Section 4: Additional Charges -This is an all-inclusive hotel. Their site & front desk both advertise FREE WIFI. We were charged $15us per person, per day for the wifi. - A few of us woke up around 11 pm and wanted food. We rang up room service and were told that first, we had to go to the lobby and use our credit cards to open a line of credit and then go back to our rooms and place the order. We explained to the person that the hotel's system had not accepted our credit cards and she said that we had to sort it out ourselves. Also, our room was a 15 minute walk from the lobby. - We ended up walking to the Carey where there was a small buffet of mini sandwiches and hotdogs and settled for that as ALL other restaurants were closed by 10:30 pm. Section 5: The Size - The resort grounds are indeed beautiful. The pools were exceptional. The transportation between resorts and rooms however, was troublesome. We had 6:45pm reservations at a restaurant at The Barcelo Maya Beach Resort and we were waiting for the bus as of 6:15pm. The bus did not arrive until 6:45pm. We had asked about the bus several times as were told that it would be there 'in 5 minutes' each time. We did lose our reservations but the restaurant was able to accommodate us. - As mentioned before, our rooms were a 15 minute walk away from the lobby and pools which can be a bit tough to walk back and forth with young children, my elderly grandmother and my uncle in his wheelchair. Section 6: The Staff - The waiters, waitresses and bartenders were very friendly and cared for us well. Section 7: Check-out -This took another hour and a half. Overall, I had a decent experience thanks to the food, drinks and beauty of the resort. However, it was more tiring than restful and we had to spend way more than we had budgeted for. I will not be going back.

Great resort with poor management at the front desk. The resorts, ocean beach, restaurants and bars service, pools, rooms were great, exceeding our expectation. But to stay about 2 hours in the front desk for check-in (the line was just about 6 people in the front of us) is not-acceptable for such great resort.

“I read a lot of review on this hotel before we go there, but only a very good thing I can say is about the Carribean sea”

Beautiful beach, piers where you can feed and swim with those fish is a lot of fun,but hotel it self? I'm saying you can go there one time for sure, because a lot of people like it and many people don't,but one time you defenetely can go,in my opinion it overpriced.
