    “Great Barcelo Hotel Group hotel for the money”

    We have stayed at numerous Barcelo Hotel Group hotels over the years. This hotel had all the amenities we have grown to expect. Clean grounds, great service, good restaurants, and good times. We stayed at this resort from Boxing Day 2019 until after the new year. A lot of reviews complained about wait times at check in. Two items: Either spend the extra for the Premium level and you will have a private check in, or, and more importantly, be sure to do your online check-in with the hotel prior to arrival. Almost all of your issues with delays are actually because you and guests ahead of you did not help the hotel expedite the check in process. Remember that they are responsible for your safety, so the more information they have ahead of time, the quicker your check in experience can be. We had no issues at check-in, other than finding the premium lounge on the third floor. The concierge asked us if we were premium upon arrival and we were directed to the private check in lounge. The premium lounge had a great selection of high end drinks, but the best, in Dominican, is of course the Ron Barcelo Anejo rum! Pay for the premium level, you will not be disappointed. Rooms and hotel grounds: Other reviews complained about the rooms and the hotel being old. They are correct, this resort is older. It "lives" in a very humid environment and is subject to some very harsh conditions for buildings. Barcelo is in the process of renovating and you can definitely see where the progress has been made. We were in a premium level room in building 5, overlooking the pool. Our room had a vaulted ceiling but you could tell that the room was older and in need of some attention. However, if you intend on spending hours of your days in your hotel room, may I suggest that a more local to your location IHG hotel may be more to your liking. Our room was in need of updates in both bathrooms, but none of the needed updates detracted from our experience. The hotel is massive and beautiful and is slowly being updated. The buffet: Lots of reviews complaining about the buffet and the service and the food. The food at the buffet is exactly what you should expect in a Dominican resort. While not as crazy good as Mexico (nothing comes close to what ever it is they do!), it's still damn good. Consider also, that buffets at these resorts are designed to feed a few thousand people. If your expectation is 5 star dining, then perhaps the issues do not rest with the buffet. We never had issues getting a table, silverware or water. We read so many reviews and all we did was simply ask a server to help seat us once we were in the buffet. One item I did notice about the buffet is the location is on the main floor of the resort and there are a lot of structural columns on the buffet. From my perspective, this creates a lot of blind spots for the staff, especially if someone just comes in and sits at a table, or worse sits at a dirty table. We were at the buffet on New Years Eve, and the staff absolutely were on top of everything. Staff: Every single staff member that we interacted with said "ola buenos dias", "beenos tardes", or any other pleasantry we could exchange. As for staff "Not speaking English... This review from any one always makes me laugh. Again, the issue is not with the resort. While we were at the resort the staff had to know Spanish, some English, Portuguese, Russian, French Canadian, French, Greek, and I believe I also heard someone speaking ugly American and was cursing at a staff member... Consider your location before making this a grudge in your review. Our swim up bar staff deserve a special shout out. Ana, Michael, Carlos all did an incredible job keeping the party going, but Jose went above and beyond. Jose did such a good job, that we even went to him when we were spending the days on the beach. Tip your swim up bar staff well and they will always be on the look out for you. Beach: Simply gorgeous. Tons of shade, tons of ocean, tons of beautiful and just so relaxing. We saw so many signs asking guests not to bring food onto the beach, but a lot did. Still not an issue, but we also saw so man guests just leaving plates and cups on the beach. Please take the time to help out. the staff are not there to just allow everyone to be a complete animal. Pool party: Just ask about the pool party and go. It is so much fun. Crazy good times! There will be signs all over the pool hosting the pool party that week. While it's once per week, when we were there the pool party was at the quiet pool.

    “Beautiful Beach”

    Pros: Great Resort location, beach was breath taking!! food was decent, drinks were good. Resort is old but they keep it clean. fresh fruit and deserts were amazing. we stayed in building 6 and cleaning lady Carolina was amazing, she always went out of her way to help us cleaning/desinfecting our room since my husband and son fell ill. Also her supervisor Nancy was really helpful too. When my family got sick, the night time costumer service Pablo Salas went over and beyond to get a 24hr pharmacy to bring us the necessary meds we needed it ( Thank you) Daily soups were great. Cons: Daytime front desk personal lacked on costumer service, they were a bit rude and insensitive when asked for help or changing wifi password due to continuously being down or not working properly. Buffet cooks are a bit slow making the meat, no waitress to bring drinks to the table. Food was salty at times.

    “Please read before booking here!”

    My family and I visited this resort and we were very excited. Upon arrival, the front desk gave us a very warm welcome with some drinks, luggage service, and information about the hotel. Our rooms were okay; a beautiful view but minimal towels, horrible shower, and room service was not free. My bed was made everyday and very comfortable but my pillow cases and sheets were never changed (makeup stains, stayed 5 nights). The beach and pool were beautiful. At the pool they had minimal entertainment and no one to come around and collect empty plates and cups. You have to get up every time you want a drink and leave your belongings unattended. The bars only have one or two people working and that caused a long wait for even a water. All of the mixed drinks were extremely watered down and the beer cups are very small. I couldn't even get a buzz going after drinking alcohol all day. The beach chairs every morning were covered in sand and the life guard paid no attention to anyone in the ocean. Our food experience was absolutely horrible, small portions and not many choices. Buffet was not good at all, and we had breakfast there everyday and dinner there one night, not good any day. The restaurants had the tiniest plates with the same buffet food, horrible. Although, i will say the hibachi restaurant was very good, we enjoyed that. We did an excursion at la hacienda, which was okay. The staff at the hotel told us it was a half hour away and it was really over an hour. The staff overall were very nice, always smiling and saying hello, not very good with service though. Everyone who works here is veryy pushy for money, it was extremely uncomfortable to be hounded everyday to buy this and that. Make sure you bring cash because the ATM gives pesos and charges a 10$ fee to use. The nightly shows and casino were alright, not the best. Overall, I am a frequent traveler and I am not picky or high maintenance. The Dominican Republic has many gorgeous views but I will not be returning as the people here made me very uncomfortable.     “GREAT VACATION AT OCCIDENTAL CARIBE”

    Everything was great, from the restaurants to my ocean view room to the food in the buffets and restaurants, the pool the beach, my god loved it all and miss it already cant wait to go back soon and the staff were all polite and nice.
