Experience Description

Short Summary

  • Explore the seabed of Cabo de Gata with an expert guide and discover the Mediterranean’s biodiversity while snorkeling in a safe and fun way.

Full Description

  • Dive into the crystal-clear waters of Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park and get ready for an unforgettable underwater experience. This snorkeling tour is not just a water activity, but a true educational expedition. Guided by a certified aquatic lifeguard, we will explore marine areas full of life, such as Posidonia oceanica meadows, rocky formations, and sheltered areas rich in biodiversity.
  • From the surface, you’ll be able to observe schools of fish like salemas and seabream, hidden groupers, starfish, and even camouflaged octopuses. For those with experience, the guide will facilitate free diving in safe areas. All of this takes place in a controlled environment, with interpretive explanations about the species observed, their habitats, and their ecological roles.

Operational Description

  • The guide will distribute the necessary equipment and explain the context of the area. Before entering the water, they will show the main species of the route using an identification sheet.
  • In the shallow part, participants will learn to breathe through the snorkel and improve their finning technique.
  • Once the tour starts, we will avoid stepping on the seabed to protect the ecosystem. Optionally, the “duck dive” technique will be demonstrated to safely dive below the surface.
  • Observed ecosystems: sandy bottom, rocky bottom, and Posidonia oceanica meadow.

Activity Goal

  • To learn about and appreciate the Mediterranean’s marine biodiversity through direct observation, promoting environmental education and respect for aquatic ecosystems.
