Description

Travel back in time on an excursion from Seville to Italica, one of the most important Roman archaeological sites in the Iberian Peninsula. Founded more than two thousand years ago, the city is known as the birthplace of emperors such as Trajan and Hadrian, two of the most influential figures of the Roman Empire.

After a short journey to the nearby town of Santiponce, your official guide will introduce the historical significance of the site before you begin exploring the remains of this ancient Roman settlement. As you walk along its streets, you will discover mosaics, thermal baths and residential areas, including remarkable houses such as the House of Neptune and the House of the Birds.

One of the highlights of the visit is the impressive Italica Amphitheatre, considered the third largest in the Roman world and once capable of holding around 25,000 spectators. Visitors can walk through the arena and the underground galleries, imagining the gladiator combats that once took place here.

The tour also includes the Roman Theatre of Italica, discovered in the mid-20th century and regarded today as one of the best-preserved theatres of its kind in Europe. It is still used for cultural events, including the well-known international dance festival held in Santiponce.

After visiting the archaeological site, the excursion continues to the Monastery of San Isidoro del Campo, a medieval fortified complex that preserves important Mudejar, Gothic and Baroque elements along with notable paintings and sculptures. At the end of the visit, you will return to Seville after a day dedicated to exploring some of Andalusia’s most remarkable historical landmarks.
