    “Needs updating”

Just got back from the Barcelo. Great beach and weather. This hotel needs a upgrade and also needs to improve their food handling. Rooms were reasonably clean but old. Beds were comfy, showers were great and we had a nice sized balcony. The food handling was our biggest concern.

    “Barcelo Huatulco”

This was a family vacation. This hotel is a 3 star at best. My fam and I travel every few years together and we were shocked at the hotel. The rooms needed updating, the cleaning was sub par and at the restaraunts the staff did not use gloves so they touch raw meat and then the veggies and hand u the food with the same hands.

    “Good service, lovely beach”

The Barcelo hotel is on a beautiful stretch of beach in a relatively secluded bay. The hotel itself is a nice size with good amenities and reasonably good food (for all inclusive). Note you are limited to 2 hrs/wifi a day for a couple included with All inclusive. You can buy an additional $40 US week for wifi we were told. A walkable beach (?approx 1 mile) and you can swim although a sudden drop off makes getting in and out a little tricky especially with strong tide. Paddle boarding, kayaking available right at the resort. Swimmers will enjoy the ability to swim in a clean bay with minimal boats coming in and out. If you play tennis the courts are excellent and free to book at any time (they have good racquets and balls). There is mini-golf and a small gym. Be aware that the resort currently does not have a policy that stops patrons from going out early in the morning (before 7am) and putting towels down to hold lounge chairs (unlimited). In many cases the chairs were not used at all during the day as people would go away from the resort for the day. Obviously coming and going during the day is fine;.unfortunately people don't want to take the chance of not having a spot when they come back late in the afternoon so.... If you get up after 7am you will have trouble finding a chair by the pool or on the beach. Long time resort goers seemed to have a built in entitlement to their space which was somewhat uncomfortable. Last day we heard that the resort was not allowing people to put down towels before 6:30 am as there had been complaints as people could not get any chair during the day. This created a stir of those who had been going for years and were just fine getting up at 6:30 to hold their place for the day. Who wants to get up at 6:30 a just to put a towel on a chair? At one point we were moving our chairs on the beach to an area behind us that was shaded and the people in front told us they would be using that "shaded" area at sometime in the day; they felt they had entitlement to the area around them - oh my! We moved our chairs back. However if you don't care about getting a chair then none of this is an issue! Having said that there is not a lot to do around the resort except spending time by beach/ocean so you may just have to get up, put your towel down (as it has become the culture!). Now onto food - Some of the food was very nice (breakfast had good selection and some dishes like ceviche were yummy!) The a la carte restaurants were a disappointment relative to the quality of the food and access. The first day after we arrived we could not book most of the restaurants for the week unless we wanted to go after 8:30 (for late night eaters not a problem!) LIne ups for buffets were not bad despite 3 days (of our one week) only having 1 buffet open for the resort (remember the limited access to a la cartes so everyone comes to the buffet). The alcohol in drinks is not the best quality however the juices/drinks selections are nice. As is the case in Mexico the house wine quality is not what we are familiar with; however this is not an issue unless you are a wine lover! We did see some more familiar brands of alcohol and if this is very important for you then consider upgrading to premium level as we were told that would give you more option to brands (or if you want beer in a can you need to be premium level). Although they are aware of large group arrivals (eg sunwings late afternoon Tuesday flights with probably ? 200 people arriving) they did not have any access to food until 7pm. Drinks in the bar were available immediately but after 8 to 10 hrs of travelling it is important to have some food options. The problem with the limited food access when you arrive is that you start your trip with a less than favourable impression of the resort for the week to come! Also by the time we checked in the concierge desk (where you book the 3 a la carte restaurants was closed :( The staff in the hotel and the service are excellent! We went to two of the shows which were well done with wonderful dancers! Would we go back? The location is wonderful, service is good, hotel is clean and rooms nice. Loved having tennis and gym access. We did not take in any excursions, went to the small town one day by cab so basically just took in the ocean/beach and the resort. The busy pool area and line ups for buffets are not the best so we might go back to Huatulco but consider somewhere else.

    “Wedding Barcelo Huatulco January 2020”

Patricia our wedding planner did an amazing job organizing our wedding day. It was absolutely beautiful & the fresh flowers were beyond what I could have ever imagined! We had 65 people travel with us from canada and they all had great things to say! I would suggest buying premium level as your service is exceptional with this upgrade. Beach and pool were great - although swim up bar was disappointing as there was a waterfall above it and you couldn’t sit there without getting soaked & water in your drinks. Food was typical all inclusive food - although the buffet had a lot of options. I would definitely recommend this resort for a wedding or a family/friends trip! We will be back :)

    “Nice Vacation...but”

We had a nice time at The Barcelo Huatulco. The resort is on the smaller side, which we love. The staff are hard working but had some trouble with some of the serving staff not understanding English. This was limited to a few and with some back and forth we could get our order correct. The resort is very clean and well maintained. The Premium Is well worth the upgrade. We always got the restaurant we wanted and the time that we wanted. The Buffet was good but a limited selection and always the same day after day. The one draw back that we found is that if you were not up by 5:30 - 6:00 (before the sun came up) you did not get a shaded chair on the beach or pool. We observed guest reserving chairs by the pool and the beach at the same time, so chairs were empty most of the day, very sad to see. All in All we very much enjoyed our time at the Barcelo but will try Dreams next year.

Thank you very much for the time you spent to share your personal impressions of your stay at our Barceló Huatulco. We always welcome feedback, as it allows us to continually improve the experience we create for our guests. According to the hotel policy reserving sunbeds is not allowed. We do our best to ensure the following of this standard, especially during high occupancy when this happens more often and we apologize if exceptionally during your stay we weren’t able to have a total control on this matter. Thank you once again for making us your choice hotel and for your constructive critics, we certaily look forward to serving you again and to have the opportunity to exceed you expectations in a not too distant future.
