    “Luxury at its best.”

No complaints! from the minute we were picked up at the airport we knew we made the right decision. We had a corner room approx 1100 sq. ft., with the ocean in the front and the river to the side. Never had a bad meal and fine restaurants were included. We enjoyed it so much we did make a return trip and again really enjoyed the Barcelo and several small villages in the area. Also was able to help the newly hatched turtles return to the sea. For the price Barcelo is the best.

    “The BEST of Mismaloya”

I loved our recent stay at Barcelo. We managed to have fun and relax. The room was big, clean, working air-conditioning, loved the amenities, the views from our balcony on the 6th floor, and I loved the cozy pillow and sheets. They were awesome in adding romantic details for FREE :) The food was decent and there was a ton of variety. I think how dinner reservations are managed can be improved so that it is no redundant. Also, the excursions we set up through Vallarta Adventures were amazing. Only down side is the location, some excursions depart from the Marina and its kinda far and the taxi's charge differently (sometimes more for some reason - not the rate the bell boy/hotel staff noted).

My wife and I have enjoyed multiple visits to Barcelo on Playa Mismaloya. The cove is exquisite and very inviting. Take advantage of a boat rental with Captain Manny. Snorkel, explore and be sure to visit Los Conos just south of Barcelo. Amazing food on a secluded beach (boat access only). We love Barcelo, it's a huge value.

“Nice on the surface, problems underneath”

The Good: (1). The location is absolutely fabulous, with the beach being small, but not crowded. (2). Our room was very large, with a beautiful ocean view. The room was clean, and we loved the in-ceiling rainfall shower head. (3). The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. Some speak English better than others, but if you attempt a little Spanish, you'll be fine. (4). The drinks are good, and plentiful. The Bad: (1). They like to host wedding receptions. Prepare for a big section of the pool-deck to be off limits some nights, with music blaring from loudspeakers until 11pm. (2). While sitting on the patio one morning, we were overwhelmed with the smell of sewage. We never figured out where it was coming from, and it did disapate, but it was strong enough we had to go inside. (3). The in-room air conditioners seemed like they had trouble keeping up. It was 85 most days, and with both air conditioners on as cold as they'd go, we were still hot at night. (4). The food is pretty bland, and all starts to taste the same after a few days. (5). In the buffet, they keep the "clean" plates under the food, which means the plates on top are always dirty. (6). Most of the public restrooms downstairs have faucets, toilets, and/or soap dispensers that don't work. (7). The elevators are small and heaven forbid you try and take them when they're busy, you may end up waiting a while. (8). The hotel makes no effort to keep beach vendors away. You will be bothered while on the beach, or even on the pool deck close to the beach. They'll even try and hock their goods if you are sitting next to the window in the buffet. (9). They provide very little information about your stay, or those unfamiliar with the resort. There is no information packet in the room (not at least that we could find). It would be nice if there was something in the room that told you, when the buffet hours were, what they were serving, when the pool closes, a map of where things are, the upcoming shows, etc. etc. etc. (10). The last night we were there we awoke to the circuit panel in our room making a loud buzzing noise, the power in our room cutting in and out, and the lights in the hallway flashing on and off. I called the front desk and they said the power had gone out in town. That seemed to be the case, as the surrounding buildings were dark, but it only seemed like it affected tower 1 where we were staying. The next morning there was power to our room, but no water in our room. I assume the lack of water was connected to the power issue, but no information was provided, and it was pretty inconvenient to prepare to leave with no water. While the resort cannot control the external power source, they clearly had troubles with their generators, and coping with the power loss.

    “Perfect family vacation”

This year we could not remember if this is our 5th or 6th time in Barcelo Puerto Vallarta. Every time we start planning for a relaxing family vacation in Mexico, we think that maybe we have to try something else this time, and then agree with each other that this resort provides us with everything we are looking for - a perfect family vacation, with good entertainment for everyone, good food, and a great, relaxing atmosphere. Mismaloya beach where the hotel is located is absolutely beautiful, and view from the balcony is the ocean on one side and gorgeous mountains on another. We also have to mention that Family room option ( and for a good price) is what makes us return again and again, too, - having a separate bedroom and a bathroom for kids ( now 14 and 9) is priceless. Hotel staff is awesome. Our daughter loves "Barcy's" kids club- special thanks to Ana Gaspar who makes this club a fun place. We have a bunch of handmade keychains, bracelets and picture frames from "Barcy's" that we make sure to take home every year. We also would like to thank the hotel administrators, Alejandro and Lucy, who we know now for years, and they always try to help and to make our stay better. Oscar Martinez and Candelaria Barbosa from the "La Fuente" buffet are both great, and we appreciate their good work as well. This time we also would like to send a special thanks to the manager of the "Capri" restaurant ( we do not remember his name, unfortunately). We messed up with our reservation at "Don Quixote" ( showed up on Thursday, when the restaurant is closed, instead of Tuesday), and asked him if it would be possible to visit the "Capri" instead this night - he was able to arrange the table for us, and we had a great time. Overall, it's a great place. As at any place, there are some flows ( Internet connection could be free; we could get our toilet paper and water in the fridge without reminding the cleaning ladies about that), but we consider those minor, and most likely, will be back.
