It’s virtually impossible to go to Torremolinos and not take a refreshing dip at El Bajondillo Beach, located in a historic fishing quarter in the beating heart of the town. You can access the beach via a public lift located in Panorama Square. However, if you fancy taking the ‘scenic route,’ we recommend strolling down the famous Cuesta del Tajo: a winding pedestrian street punctuated with charming craft and souvenir shops.

A Beach Made For Strolling

Measuring over a kilometre long and 40 metres wide, El Bajondillo is one of the busiest beaches in Torremolinos. Its huge popularity is down to its convenient location in the heart of the town’s fishing district and its impressive range of services.

Regular visitors often praise its array of amenities and the peaceful atmosphere that it exudes. Combined, they make it a great spot to enjoy the wonders of the Mediterranean and the year-round pleasant weather enjoyed in this stretch of the Costa del Sol.

Nestled between Playamar and La Carihuela, El Bajondillo Beach offers full accessibility for people with reduced mobility. This accessibility infrastructure includes two lifts: a public lift located in Panorama Square and another inside the grounds of the Meliá Hotel (the latter costs 50 cents per trip). Both lifts allow easy access to the sand without having to navigate the narrow, bustling streets of the Cuesta del Tajo. That said, for those wanting to embrace the authentic Torremolinos experience, we recommend descending to El Bajondillo along this iconic street lined with craft and souvenir shops. One of the main arteries of the Torremolinos fishing quarter, the Cuesta del Tajo is characterised by its authenticity and unique photo opportunities.

El Bajondillo is also famous for El Morro, a huge rocky promontory located at one end of the beach that serves as a spectacular viewpoint that can be accessed from the beachfront promenade.

Services and Features: A Top Class Beach

One of the most comprehensive beaches in Torremolinos, El Bajondillo is regularly awarded top international distinctions for its high quality. Besides its impressive size and calm waters, it has on-duty lifeguards and a first-aid post throughout the summer months. It also has toilets, foot showers and adapted showers for those who need them. Beachgoers will also find sunbed and parasol hire services, shaded areas, and even a playground for children.

The beachfront promenade that skirts past El Bajondillo is also punctuated with beach bars and restaurants, which are perfect for enjoying a refreshing drink or bite to eat or watching people stroll by as the sun goes down.

Things To Do: From Sea Scooters to Banana Boats

El Bajondillo caters to every type of beachgoer. Those looking to disconnect, sunbathe or enjoy a long stroll in the sun will be in their element on this iconic stretch of sand. Comfortable sun loungers and parasols can be hired close to the shoreline, allowing visitors to lay back and relax as they listen to the sound of breaking waves and admire the golden hues at sunset.

Don’t fret if you’re the sort of person who struggles to sit still for more than twenty minutes, as El Bajondillo has plenty to offer for more active beachgoers. For example, you could take the whole family out for a gentle sea scooter outing or jump aboard a banana boat and get whisked across the waves at speed. Its calm waters also make it a popular destination for paddle surf and kayaking enthusiasts. There’s even a surf school where you can rent surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing gear. You can also sign up for beginner’s diving classes, for which all the gear is included in the price.

Beach Bars, Sardine Skewers and Crafted Cocktails

El Bajondillo’s beachfront promenade is home to some of the area’s most iconic bars, which are perfect for enjoying freshly-grilled ‘espetos’ (sardine skewers) or and healthy servings of ‘pescaíto frito’ (fried fish). However, if you’re looking for modern vibes rather than traditional bites, El Bajondillo is also home to several trendy beach clubs: what better way to extend a memorable day on the beach by sipping on a cocktail at sunset?

One of El Bajondillo’s most iconic bars is El Velero: a local institution which is perfect for enjoying an ice-cold beer accompanied with some tasty tapas. Other popular bars and restaurants include Los Pescadores and La Macarena, both of which are highly regarded for their good service and exquisite food. If you’re looking for a beach club, we recommend checking out El Edén.
