    “Beautiful peaceful short break! ”

    Our stay here was fabulous from start to finish made particularly special by the lovely staff most notably the sweet blonde bobbed lady evening receptionist who checked us in quickly and ensured we got in before the evening meal finished and chased up our taxi back to the airport on our last day! She and her cheerful smile really is a credit to Barcelo! All the staff were excellent, we have no idea where the reviews saying they aren’t, come from....maybe peak season is different?! Breakfast is great, out on the terrace complete with unlimited cava and evening meal was very satisfactory, i consider myself a bit of a fussy eater and I found something tasty every evening! It was lucky we booked it as the restaurants in Cala fonts whilst lovely were mainly closed at the end October so we would have had limited choice. Pools were nice, clean but as mentioned by others in the shade so a little chilly in October. The sky bar and hot tubs on the other hand were fantastic and a perfect spot to enjoy the sunshine and stunning views even if the opening times of the bar were a little hit and miss. The reception barman was kind enough to bring drinks up to the sky bar for us so there’s not too much of an issue really. Our room 419 was great! We were on the front looking at the harbour with a nice little balcony. Not much sun this side but that kept it comfortable (especially the huge bed!) and cool and the views are exceptional especially when the huge cruise ships come by. Yes the room layout is a bit unique which was a pain at night if one person got up for the loo as the lights woke the other one up shining through the glass wall of the shower cubicle. It’s quirky but not unpleasant, it certainly wouldn’t stop us returning, we’ve stayed in far worse! Overall we loved this adults only escape in a sweet traditional Spanish town and are planning our return already! Barcelo you have impressed us twice, first in fuerteventura and now menorca!

    “The welcome process and breakfast need serious work...”

    Overall: Poor given the price we paid - c€120/130 per night. Arrival: We arrived at around 1030pm local time due to airline delays. There were two staff on reception with papers out all over the front desk. We were ignored for around 2 minutes and then asked abruptly "checking in?". No formal welcome and lovely to see you here etc. We were then immediately asked to pay another €10 tourist tax. I asked if we could pay at the end given how tired we were but they insisted it needed doing straight away. They also tried to get our email address for "feedback" but I said I would leave it with Booking.com We know the marketing ploy as have been bombarded through email and post from a similar chain of hotels. Breakfast: Normally one of the best parts of holidays. However I am not sure where the quality control has gone? Several flies hovering around and sitting on food / buffet tables. The fruit for two days in a row was fizzy - that is, gone off. We went sure that the sausages were cooked through as they were pink. The staff hang around until 945/10am then all but one seem to disappear, meaning you cannot have any fried eggs etc from the chef. This is despite breakfast being advertised 730-1030am. Should state reduced service from certain time if that's the case. Finally, the tables are laid out in a haphazard way. And very close together. We almost felt like we were sitting on the table with people next to us. Room: We arrived late and tired so it wasn't until the next morning that we noticed the dirty duvet cover. Many marks on the cover under the top throw. We left a note for cleaners to change it. They did. But shouldn't need to. The pillow cases don't extend all around the pillow so I'm guessing you can be resting your face on something that has been used many times if not careful. We had a free bottle of water on first day but then nothing until I asked the cleaner when I saw her in the corridor. Given price of hotel it's not a big ask to have a free bottle of water for when you get back each day. On the day we were departing we wanted to fill a small plastic bottle up with water from the free communal gym water but were told by a member of staff that you can only refill a bottle if you are using the gym! Finally, privacy of toilets. All the toilets have a sliding door, even in communal areas. There is a general feeling of a lack of privacy given many of them are translucent and don't always close fully. On the positive side, we chose a sea view and had good views of the bay and boats passing. Other facilities: The gym was good. Some treadmills and cycle machines. We also had to pay another €8 each for an hours use of the sauna and steam room. We felt this should have been included in the price. And normally is in other places that we stay. Location: Es Castelle, near Mahon. 10 min walk from the local bus stop. Then 5/10 min ride into Mahon. Otherwise 30-45 minute walk along the road - not seafront, as we thought would be the case given some reviews. Bus costs €1.65 each way per person. Car rental: Hotel will charge you c€40 per day for car hire / rental. We found online for c£25 per day. Parking outside hotel is free and in surrounding streets. Anything with a white line. Avoid yellow and blue lines. Entertainment: We don't normally buy into the evening entertainment, but we were walking back to our room having eaten out and noticed an acoustic guitar / singer that were really good (called Both Sides). Many nice sounds, so hung around for a bit on the comfy sofas in the downstairs open area.

    “Autumn break”

    Fantastic location - easy walk to terrific harbourside EsCastell with lovely restaurants and cafes, close to bus for Mahon and overlooking the Mahon harbour entrance. Nice room, even got used to the wash basin in the room and that provides space for a fine shower room and separate toilet. We had lovely weather for an October break so we made a lot of use of the panoramic sky terrace with the jacuzzi tubs. Decadent and quite wonderful. The breakfast was superb with so much choice, we still miss that now. How nice to sit outside for breakfast in the warm. We also enjoyed the in bar entertainment in the evening, though the bar staff were quite noisy (but they did pour very full measures!). Just a bit let down by the lower pool area which enjoyed only partial sun every day and was in need of some renovation. Also there seemed to be a bit of inconsistency in the treatment of guests, some got welcome drinks, others not so spoiled. However, would certainly go there again. A very good experience.

    “Современный отель с хорошим обслуживанием”

    Отель имеет современный дизайн, особенно понравилась зона с гидромассажными ванными и лежаки на крыше отеля - когда бы мы там ни были открывались умопомрачительные виды, а на закате - вообще сказка! На завтрак отличный выбор и всегда много свободных столиков. Единственный минус - до пляжа около 20 минут на машине. Но в окружении морского воздуха и в бассейне мы чувствовали себя как в море.
