    “Great hotel with excellent service”

    My wife and I stayed in the Barcelo Cabo de Gata with our 7 year old son for 1 week during October, on a half-board basis. It was our first stay in this hotel. We choose this hotel because of its proximity to the airport, the beach and Almeria City. We were very pleased with all aspects. We booked a junior suite which was clean, comfortable, quiet and spacious - all amenities worked well. The Wi-Fi was unbelievably fast. The breakfast and dinner were superb - plenty of choice, everything well cooked and extremely efficient service. We used the outdoor swimming pool which was lovely and warm - there were plenty of sunbeds. We did a lot of walking along the promenade which was great - there are some shops nearby but for a greater range of shopping a hire car would be best. We rented a car (picked up from the airport) for the week which meant we could go to the beautiful beaches not too far away and visit Mini-Hollywood and Almeria City. Parking at the hotel was not a problem. We thoroughly recommend this hotel for its location and for its very friendly and helpful staff.

    “Must Knows Before You Go”

    Hotel in a lovely location, but the only thing i will say its anaway from it all holiday,only a couple of supermarkets shops and bars open when we stayed in october within a 1 mile walk.In the summer months you have the lakeside plaza with a few resturants and bars just a short walk from the hotel.Things to do not a lot when we stayed only a couple of nights entertainment,winter program when we stayed probably better in main season.Things to do, not a lot when we stayed only lots of walking,most of the trips i was interested in where not running because of lack of interest,so only places you could visit was Almeria City which we thought was beautiful,and buses very frequent caught just outside the hotel. The only thing was if you wanted to visit anywhere else along the coast for example Mojacar you had to catch a bus into Almeria then catch a bus to Mojacar,which were very infrequent. I would suggest if you want to explore hire a car is a must.Overall we had nice holiday, but to quite for me.( Car hire a must) Tony & Jeanette Oliver

    “Pleasant, clean hotel...”

    Booked an 'away from it all' break and was pleasantly surprised by how much there was to / we did do. Hotel was pleasant enough and very clean if slightly lacking in character. Most of the staff were polite and friendly with the odd exception of waiting staff (One in particular who was quite rude to guests and threw most of the cutlery etc. when setting a table). The bedroom was large with a comfortable bed and pillows. The bathroom was also quite large and housed a bath and a separate shower. The downside of this hotel was the food.... none of it particularly hot unless you waited at the grill for something to be cooked. Breakfast was probably the best meal....something for everyone and all tastes catered for. Lunch and dinner - an awful lot of fish was served; separate dishes that didn't go together; and very cheap cuts of meats in stews/curries/paella - which sometimes consisted of just carcass and skin. Between the Tuesday evening and Wednesday lunch time of our stay very little food choice appeared to be available and food wasn't replenished once serving plates emptied. Picnic bags are available if you go out for the day but this is not advertised anywhere. There is a bus stop just outside of the hotel....again a timetable is available from reception....if you ask!! This hotel is not very proactive in ensuring they provide the best service for guests - it is up to the guest to ask..ask...ask...just don't go asking for something early in the morning (8 am)....or at least don't expect service with a smile or any sort of conversation....just a glare and action...good morning to you to. The pool area is nice with choice of pools and ample sun beds. Hotel is in lovely position with views over sea.

    “Not a 4 star”

    We flew at 05:30am and arrived at the hotel 10:30am and after checking in we went for breakfast (which closed at 11am) and were told our holiday hadn't started yet so it would cost us €10 each. We had to move rooms on the first night as ours was dirty (the hotel did apologise for this), one of the pools was closed, the bar didn't open when it should have done, not all of the drinks were available, loud car races happened in the car park opposite our room, the a la carte restaurant was closed, there was a wedding at the hotel one day which meant parts of the hotel were closed. The food was not good and veggie options were very limited. We were forced to eat in the buffet hall 3 times a day for the 7 days of our holiday as the a la carte was closed, and the snack bar only cooked meat. There was no labelling of whether food was vegetarian. Wouldn’t stay again.

    “Great week away with good weather”

    We love this part of Spain as it usually offers warm weather in the winter. The hotel is well appointed with pleasant grounds which lead down to the shore. Be aware that the hotel is not at Cabo de Gata but actually at Retamar a development not far from the city of Almeria. It may be a good idea to hire a car as there is not much around the area outside the hotel. The quality of the accommodation was excellent for the price we paid as independent travellers at that time of year.
